(Son got married on Saturday and I have been catching up since Sunday between watching games).Thoughts on the gameAgree with Landon, he was a liability. Bone bruise is no joke. Ask Bo. The only cure is to let it heal. Whole OL looked a bit disjointed at times but every year since Nick stopped playing starters in PS, it looked like this. A bit less so when they had practices against two other teams. Should go back to that. New scheme also played a factor. Not sure, even when Landon comes back that he is a good fit for this blocking scheme.Speaking of not playing. Vic needs to insist the D get PS snaps because just like blocking a sled is different than blocking a live person, tackling a dummy or a doughnut is different than a live person.I think the running game will improve as the season goes on. Hopefully we see more Tank.Epps is a better S than Cooper at this point. In fact, he is the best S on the team at this point. Worse game of Coop’s as an Eagle. My BIL is a Texan’s fan and here for the wedding so we popped on the Texans game. Reed, oof. For all the despair in here about S.Epenesa cannot seal the edge. Need Greenard to get his strength back and get on the field.I will give Lemon slack as he has barely practiced. See the potential. That said, seems criminal not to throw to Darius Cooper. He is already a better gunner than Sydney on STs. He blocks better than AJ and has good hands.Goedert should be a hometown hero at this point. Mundt is solid at blockingWhy no Robinson? I would rather see Robinson than Epenesa at this point.Q and Riq showed up.With all due respect (very minute) to @HazletonEagle , Hurts put the team on his back and carried the O. His long ball is elite.Carter did similar on the DL. Hope Davis isn’t banged up.I’d play Trot2 over Campbell.Mann has figured out how to directionally kick. Kudos to that garbage can. Need to check in with @FranklinFldEBUpper ’s ST blog to see his write up. (I don’t venture out of the Blog much but his write ups are must read. The pessimists in the Blog forget every year how rough the first game looks while the starters get in football mode and the D remembers how to tackle. Finally, a Win and a Division win.For the divisionParker is getting criticized but being in Ravens country down here in the South Central, I can say Rickard is a beast and the combination with A fresh Skattebo is hard to stop. That said, can’t see how he and Dart remain healthy and not worn down.Nabors is back. Likely was a great signing.Once the refs quit calling phantom DPI on the gints, the superstar (Collingsworth right before I muted him description) push off Lamb and Pickens kind of disappeared and Dak dakked. Those giant LBs (pardon the pun) are going to be a force. But the fact the cowpads could exploit their IDL shows they really miss Tyler Smith.Sonny Styles was impressive. Lack of depth may be an issue for the commiesDaniels needs to run but won’t hold up.The super team Packers and Rams are 0-1. The top two AFC teams from last year are 0-1 and looked bad. I think too much is being attributed to the travel approach for the Rams. Mahommes look like crap last night throwing long. That mutes Worthy and Rice. AR ran the ball and did not abandon the run. Can teach an old dog new tricks.Kendall was the second rated C by most draft pundits but needed strength. If Morris can keep his pads down, he could be a beast.Tryout Tuesday. I expect some roster adjustments will show up tomorrow. Always say, while Howie is never done, the true 53 is after the first game.Congrats to your son! I agree with you on Robinson. The defense was getting gassed at the end of the game. It seems like giving Robinson more snaps would allow Carter and Ojomo to be better rested at the end of the game. I think Coop's struggles were related to Diggs and the routes he ran. Probably having limited film on the offense and going against a WR he had not faced before left him more susceptible to not reading the routes. I am less concerned about the penalties because they were just bad calls.

But just evaluating week 1 in a vacuum I did not like what I saw from the offense at all. I wouldn't say it was terrible, but I would say somewhere between bad to below average from where it needs to be.I think what concerned me most was it didn't look very different. That did not remotely look like a Shanahan style offense. Maybe it's because they couldn't run the ball so they couldn't do what they wanted. But their most successful plays were 2025 stuff. It felt like the 2025 offense to me. Still a lot of hitches, a lot getting late to snap the ball, unable to run, their best plays off improvisation or individual greatness in that moment. I would be less concerned if it looked like the offense we were told we were getting but say they had 3 and outs because the timing was off or whatever. It just looked like a sluggish, predictable offense with poor blocking a la 2025, but the difference was Hurts dealt with it a lot better. Which, good, but 1) It still needs to be a lot better and 2) Not fair to ask Hurts to bail them out every game.Seems like you have very high, unrealistic expectations for week 1 considering all the factors. It was much better than last year week 1.Week 1 last year Hurts has less pass yards, no pass TDs, the top receivers were Goedert with 7 catches for 44 yards and Jahon Dotson with 3 catches for 59 yards. AJ Brown had 1 catch for 8 yards, Smith had 3 catches for 16 yards. This year he had 203 yards (should be a positive considering all the games under 200 yards people complain about), 3 pass TDs, spread the ball around. Despite the O line struggles and new scheme. A bunch of new WRs. No preseason. You have to expect growing pains and learning. It was just a couple weeks ago Mannion was trying out calling plays in the booth and sideline...because he's never done it before. He has been an NFL coach 3 years, first year as OC, never called plays. They're off to a good start. We obviously want improvement, so we'll see in the coming weeks.

He mentioned that part of becoming better is learning from the mistakes.Gus Bradley's Titans defense wont be the same mystery as the Commanders'. If there is more cohesion along the OL, we'll likely see more new stuff.

I do think veteran players are more suited to adapt and learn. But it's week 1 with no preseason.

We obviously want improvement, so we'll see in the coming weeks.I don't have high expectations, they actually played exactly like I thought they would. Maybe even a bit better. But my expectations were low because I picked the offense to suck this year. It's not really about what I expected, it's about what I wanted. What I wanted was an offense that looked vastly different, even if it wasn't fully functioning and in sync yet. Did not get that at all. What I expected was a lot of the same, which is what we got.I don't expect things to look vastly different 10 weeks from now though. If I had to guess right now and it would just be a guess is the scheme looks a lot like 2025 with more under center mixed in and if the offense gets better then it's because the OL plays better, Hurts plays better, and they execute it better. But I don't really expect us to be sitting here in week 10 going "Holy crap, stylistically, this looks totally different from week 1! Tons of play action, no more hitch routes, this looks so much like a Shanahan offense!" I just don't think football works that way. Teams can get better and execute better throughout a season, but in terms of the style I do think you can take something from that in week 1. But maybe they'll surprise and in a month we'll all be going "Wow, this is the scheme we were all hoping for"
September 15Sep 15 31 minutes ago, NOTW said:Well they played well yesterday. I was recently told "last year doesn't matter!!!" The Commies defense ranked just below the Eagles yesterday (Eagles 16th, Commies 17th). Based on how they played week 1. The Commanders had a good pass rush and blitzed breaking up plays. The Eagles O line had issues of course. And things will improve, next time we play them should be different. In all the factors I listed, guys will harp on one about the Commies defense. There are a lot of reasons why not to judge the offense harshly from week 1. And the Commanders didn't play really bad defense this week. They may later. But they played well and got pressure. Also all the factors with the new coach and scheme and all that.So then would you say the Eagles defense is below average if they rank 17th? Clearly not. It's a small sample size. Did they play well because they are a good defense, or did they play well because Wicks and Barkley whiffed on blocks and Dickerson was a turnstile? This is not to say the Eagles offense should be judged harshly or even at all. I'm just pointing out that "Commanders have a good defense" shouldn't be an excuse. Because they don't. They also had two brand new and less experienced Coordinators also.

Again, that was ONE small factor in a long list of stuff I said of reasons why there shouldn't be pessimism and judgment of the Eagles offense week 1. Happy to concede to prevent 4 pages of back and forth nitpicking things.

September 15Sep 15 Expect the offense to make significant strides this week. With OL hopefully more stable and athletic, it should open up the playbook a little, both in the running and passing game. They were hamstrung last week with a disabled player at LG and had to adapt to that issue.Mannion will be evolving this offense every week, but gradually. Crazy to think wholesale changes would happen instantly. Liked the glimpses of Barkley running outside and catching some passes. Wicks had a superb beginning. Time to implement Brown and other WRs in the mix. Tank has to see the field more. Want to see the ball spread around and Hurts play point guard. But he needs time in the pocket to do so. Good to know Hurts has 3 guys in his pocket and has built good chemistry this soon with Wicks, Goedert & Smith. Keep that deep ball going here. Also, want Kendall at LG. Foolish to put Jurgens there, who has never played there either and they would end up screwing around with 2 positions. Lampkin there makes us too small. Like him as in game sub or at Center/FB. Would love to get this guy on the field to utilize his skills. Mannion should get creative with him.
September 15Sep 15 One thing on Saquon...There were a handful of times where he actually had a hole or a lane to run through, but he either lost his footing or ran into his own guy.Again, maybe some of that organically corrects itself with the guys getting more reps, but he's got to eliminate the self tackles.

Benching Dickerson should do something about it.

He seems to go for the big play sometimes instead of taking what's there and it leads to him slipping/losing his footing and he goes down. It's kind of why I want to see more of Tank due to his running style.

This will keep Barkley fresh and allow Tank to get some meaningful carries. If it doesn't work then you scrap it. Maybe we overrate Tank. We would find out with some meaningful carries.

What’s real is time to the LOS from the huddle. Looked much better on Sunday for the Birds.I don't agree. I think Eagles definitely had a poor process of getting the correct play calls in a timely manner to Hurts. They weren't just late in the down snapping the ball. They were late in the down getting to the LOS. They often looked disorganized. The team also led the League in 3 and outs. I think it was evidence of an issue. The OL also talked about it being a problem last season.
