One argument I can't stand is that Hurts needs all this talent around him and he wouldn't win elsewhere. Yet other QBs get excuses like they just need weapons, a better O line or their defense fails them...so...those QBs need talent around them to win too. Every QB needs talent around them, football is the ultimate team sport. And coaching matters, a lot more than in other sports IMO.

We've seen QBs not do so well on one team, then do better with another. Sometimes a change of team helps a player, or scheme or fit with a coach. QBs that have been in the league long enough you know what they are.

Look at Mahomes: he was drafted into a playoff team that was a great fit. Mahomes is a great QB, gifted and has that "magician" factor they talk about. But he also had Andy Reid, the top TE in the league (not these days though) a good OC and a defense with a seasoned veteran DC considered one of the best in the game. When his O line failed him in the Super Bowls vs Tampa Bay and us, there was nothing they could do. Strong defense pressured him and he was dominated both times. There have been times they said Mahomes lost a WR, Kelce's on the decline and his O line isn't good so that's why he can't perform as well...so...he needs talent around him to succeed?

If Mahomes were drafted by the Jets or Browns, would he have had the same success? The talent around you, the coaching, the GM, all that matters. Obviously there's other talent around the league. Sure there are other QBs that would do well with the Eagles. And there are teams where Hurts would do well. The one who interests me most is Joe Burrow. He's talented and hasn't had a good O line. He'd do well with a better team and from his college days and a prior SB appearance he does know what it takes to win.

The Eagles have found a formula that has worked. Siri is undefeated in week 1, and has made the playoffs every year, two SB appearances and a win. When other teams do that they're praised as one of the best in the league and overhyped every year. Howie built a championship defense mostly from the draft, after many failed drafts. We have a homegrown star WR in DeVonta Smith. A QB that does what's needed and the team wins. If that continues Hurts will get a new contract and they'll see this regime through. Hurts can win another SB with what he does well, a strong defense and run game so why not. The risk is drafting a guy who's a bust (look at the QBs drafted in recent years) or getting a retread.

Hurts stinks and we still win a lot of games. That is all.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I think there has been a significant amount of bandwagon fans that have joined the fanbase throughout the past 10-15 years. I always find it interesting how a lot of people reminisce so fondly of the Michael Vick era from 2010. And act as if that was some all time great team that just couldn’t get over the hump. But in reality it’s just younger people who probably became a fan then and grew up with that team, which I get. But anyone old enough knows that team was never the real deal. Not even close to some of those McNabb teams.

Almost everyone in here remembers those 2000s McNabb/AR teams. Hell, I’ve been posting with a lot of those in here since 2006 in the old boards. And I think it’s hilarious that this current era of Eagles football under Sirianni is the absolute anti Reid/McNabb era.

It would be like going back to 2007 and telling someone "Tell me what you want the next 20 years of Eagles football to look like”. I want a coach who instills good culture within the locker room, I want a ferocious defense that prioritizes linebackers with an old-school type of coordinator that reminds me of Jim Johnson, I want "the big back” who can run the ball, I want a bullying offensive line, and I want a quarterback that doesn’t crap down his leg or literally puke in the big moments.

And we got all of that but some people still aren’t happy.

Howie remembering that LBs are important definitely helps lol

You talking about the overrated QBs? Or the posters in here who glaze said QBs while diminishing their own SB winning, SB MVP QB?

My favorite is when they try to act like this was somehow undeserved and that Josh Sweat should've won it instead based solely on merit, while ignoring the fact that Hurts should've won it in LVII by the same logic. Obviously the award is gonna go to a player on the winning team and obviously QBs are gonna win it a majority of the time, but let's selectively ignore half of that equation to suit our agenda of diminishing what Hurts has now done twice on the biggest stage.

If Mahomes was on the Jets he would certainly suck. 😄 I have already been pounding the pavement here, that I think he's a great QB, but over-rated. And has been quietly slipping out of greatness. As their recent winning seasons, have been carried through great defenses and great coaching. He's human. I'm gonna say all of these so called "elite" QBs have had their warts and are imperfect. From Mahomes, to Allen, to Burrow, to Jackson. But they are the best of the bunch in a QB starved league.

And we got all of that but some people still aren’t happy.

When Reid brought winning culture, consistent playoffs but couldn't get over the hump to win a SB, there were fans who wished for Buddy Ryan era again.

Buddy never won a playoff game.

They wanted the body bag game, tough defense, mouthing off the the Cowboys, all that stuff from that era which we loved. But they didn't win. Again, zero playoff wins. Winning playoff games and getting to a SB to lose by 3 points to the Pats who cheated in that SB and got docked a draft pick...wasn't better to some than Buddy Ryan teams. Reid had his flaws and it was time for him to go for a change for both parties, but at that time there were fans who didn't appreciate the winning he brought.

Now people aren't appreciating the most successful era of the team with regard to championships, and consistently making the playoffs. Someone last week was complaining that they're too inconsistent because of a bad year in 2023. They bounced back from that and won a SB. 2 Super Bowl appearances and making the playoffs every year isn't consistent enough and brings complaints. 🤣

7.3 YPA

Would be nice if people started using YPA as a metric for QB performance in lieu of comp pct. The latter is nearly pointless when it comes to evaluating total offensive output and efficiency. A game manager can check it down 20 times a game with a 70% comp pct to show for it, but manage to score only 20 pts because they sputtered in the red zone and lacked explosive plays to avoid trading FGs for TDs.

We'll never know, but the media loves to hype up Harbaugh as a great coach. You won't find a single national analyst who will rank Sirianni ahead of Harbaugh.

It's just so exhausting - anyone could win in Philadelphia with that team! OK, then why couldn't Dak win with a top 7 defense? The Chargers had the #1 scoring defense in 2024, and Herbert couldn't win.

Do I think Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow could win here - yeah, those are my 4 elite guys. But miss me with the Justin Herbert hype.

And I'll say that almost everyone would rate McDaniel as a better OC than Mannion at this point in their careers (myself included.) So if Herbert still can't put it together this year, then maybe many us really did overrate how good of a QB he was and could develop into.

Yes, those QB's need talent too. That's kinda the point when people just say blanket statements like "Jalen Hurts is better than Joe Burrow and Josh Allen." No one would ever trade the 52 players on the Eagles for the 52 on the Bills for the last 5 years.

It's interesting the type of double standard logic that gets used. You expect it from fans of other teams trashing your team and hyping their own. Being a "fan" of a team and doing it to your own QB is...something. Again, people can have a realistic balanced view of even your own players. It's ok to admit Hurts has flaws in his passing game or acknowledge he doesn't put up big pass numbers. What's weird is the logic used by people about Hurts vs other QBs. The extreme homers do it when they cherry pick stats or present stats in ways that frame him a certain way, and the haters do it when they post criticism of Hurts on certain things that with other QBs they make excuses for those things. It's just odd to me.

All Hurts does is win as you say. So shouldn't Chargers just win?

Or at you applying the team finally and saying Hurts would not be supported well with the Chargers

Yeah and I said the Chargers would do better with Jalen Hurts than they have with Herbert. I'm not sure why you are acting that I have anywhere implied differently? He is a flat out better QB than Herbert. He is a big time big game performer whereas Herbert is a generational choker.

Switch the teams and we have no Super Bowl appearances this decade because everytome Herbert gets in the playoffs he craps down his legs. Chargers on the other hand would have failed better without a doubt. Herber is a generational choker when the lights get the brightest.

That post. You said they would just fail better. So placing Hurts on the Charges would not make them a winning team

And honestly, I can understand if certain people have issues with the style of QB play from him if they prefer a more traditional pocket passer from yesteryear but the most bizarre reactions are when they call him things like scumbag, a piece of trash, or wish injury on him. He's by all accounts a stand up guy off the field who does great things for his community and is well respected by teammates and coaches alike. Seems to indicate it's more than just about football with them.

It must be discuss Herbert vs Hurts day.

Orlovsky on Herbert: "Why you're a fan of Herbert is because that's what it should look like. Your brain tells you that's what it should look like."

Says he doubted Hurts earlier on but now believes in him.

If Jalen hurts were white, same record same stats and the Super Bowl mvp; none of this talk happens. His 3 passing tds this season already don’t count for some reason because the biased narrative is he can’t throw a td so we gloss over it and wait for a bad game.

There is nothing "real time” about that post. It only said they can load in what has been done up to that point and generate a report before the next series.

At this point in time, a coordinator cant accurately load in the data, wait for co pilot to come up with a response, call in the play, and get the players on the field before the clock expires.

Real time in terms of the game. Like you said they can generate it before the next series vs the coordinators having to play the chess match. Not a fan of that.

I would argue with Mahomes, the Chiefs did not do a good job building on that offense as he got more into his career. When he became the starter it was set up perfectly for him and the chiefs. Albeit their defense wasn’t. They weren’t awful but clearly the offense led team.

Imo think they expected him to be able to lift everybody up without them having to go all in on that side of the ball. It’s why they put a lot of resources into getting their defense to be really good with Spags. But if you look (and I said this before Super Bowl 57 and before Super Bowl 59), Andy Reid allowed that offensive line to deteriorate. They always had good interior Humphrey, thuney and smith those years around 2019-2024. But their tackles from 2018 to where they got to last year had been in a deterioration and weren’t remotely as good.

Then when you add the fact, they hadn’t had a really elite running game since Hunt got kicked off the team. traded away Tyreek Hill in his prime and never really replaced him here which you’re probably never gonna be able to do. but the guys that they got were a major downgrade. Like rice is about the only one close enough but he gets hurt and suspended. worthy has not panned out the way they thought. They brought in juju Smith-Schuster, who was not very good. Hopkins was at the end of his career. then they let Kelce get older and never seriously considered his replacement. He’s 37 and somehow he is their second best receiving weapon and that’s if rice isn’t suspended or hurt

I’m not surprised that Mahomes got hurt or has seen his statistics drop. Because when you start allowing your offensive line to deteriorate you’re risking your quarterback more. Especially if he’s gonna start running more. Furthermore when your weapon start to regress and you’re not adequately replacing them any quarterback is going to see it declined. he’s great but he isn’t impervious to a regression of offensive talent on the roster.

I felt like in 2022 and 2024 from 1 to 52 the Eagles had a better roster. The two biggest differences in those Super Bowls though was mismatch between Reid vs Jonathan Gannon. the other was that offensive line had significantly declined over the course of two years. I said that going into Super Bowl 59 chiefs moving thuney was a mistake that it hurt their interior and only marginally help the tackle spot. They were just in a bad spot with an eagles defense that didn’t have the gaudy sack numbers but were far more dominant with Fangio running it.

Hurts threw for 203 yards and 3 TD passes, 8.1 yards per pass, passer rating of 122.2. Allen threw for 248 yards and 3 TD passes, 8.0 yards per pass, passer rating 121.4.

Allen: he's the league MVP!

Hurts: if you take away all the good plays, it actually wasn't that good.

Allen: he had 5 total TDs!

Hurts: rush TDs shouldn't count!
