EMB Blog: 2026 Regular Season (Part 1)

Just a few posts about Mundt. Some are quite routine but show some versatility. Here's a run play where he's one-on-one with the DE. Mundt is 83; Johnson is 11.

Squares him up.

We can see the crease between Mundt and Mailata.

Fans tend to forget was a time where we had some poor pass pro RBs. I used to bring it up last of the pederson era and into the beginning of sirianni era. Shipley is good in pass pro and allows you to be running or passing given the down and distance.

Barkley isn’t great at pass pro.

In concept I agree with you, and Howie has been very good in past seasons in building the foundation for long-term excellence by getting the team to be younger. However, both leadership and perspective both often come only after some experience is amassed. As is often said, youth is wasted on the young. In absolute athletic resilience the losses of Gush and Pulley are indeed losses, and if we were/are looking only at the long-term, having them instead of Ertz and Dalton is a no brainer. But the long-term isn’t the only criteria. We are lucky enough to have the opportunity with this team to be greedy, and realistically aspire to a third Super Bowl win.

Gush and Pulley would increase the athletic resilience, but contribute very little of the perspective and leadership and experience that a Super Bowl quest often benefits from. So, Howie has weighed the tradeoffs and made his decisions.

When I look at the Offseason additions to the team, starting with Wicks and Woolen’s immediate impact, I can’t help but feel that the losses of Gush and Pulley have been nibbling around the edges of a nicely baked cookie.

Two other trash TEs aren't worth them either

I’d argue some of reason why sometimes they bring in Shipley on 3rd down. Tend to think they believe in his pass pro. also he’s maybe be avg or slightly below but I’d argue he’s better than what they had in 2018-2020 with Doug. Their pass blocking during that time I would always bring this up and post video showing it. It wasn’t good.

Here's a screen that went for a loss. The timing was off here. Hurts's throw is late and the play has no chance. It had a chance with a timely throw. Mundt lines up at RE.

The ball should be out here but it's not. The defense has time to react.

Both blockers have made contact but the receiver is just gathering the ball.

No gain. What is interesting to me is that the Eagles ran this same action several times but the ball went to the opposite side of the field, including a big play to Wicks. So, this play set up others. It shows some sophistication in Mannion's play calling.

Would be huge if he misses the Eagles game.

While in some aspects the offense has looked better(namely Hurts) they're still 2nd worst in the NFL in 3 and out rate. That has to change. The OL sucking is a lot to do with that I think.

It's got to, otherwise defenses are going to start compiling information on our tendencies and our 3rd down offense is bound to falter.

As long as you have Steen and Jurgens as your guards, they will be getting very little push in the running game. That is not either of their strengths and never has been. We went from elite run blocking from your guards in LD and MB to this. Eagles are slowly reinventing themselves and adjusting finally, on the run (pun intended). A team that should pass to set up the run. Once Becton left last year, that should have been the final evaluation and realization. Just playing to those strengths of pass protection. Once these guys play together awhile, they should be a solid pass protection OL.

It will be Mannion's job to incorporate a lot of short stuff to mimic running plays on early downs. I think Ertz addition is going to be big for early down production, as early as this week. And Barkley more involved in the passing game than before (less pure running plays for him). Like to see more Hollywood (even if just as a decoy and threat) and his speed incorporated here to open things up in the middle.

This is definitely a work in progress, where Hurts is holding the fort, as much as one can hope. Think there is a feeling out process taking place where Sirianni eventually accepts this new reality of potentially more turnovers, but at the same time, letting go and showing full trust in Mannion/Hurts executing this scheme. The Eagles had an identity crisis on offense last year. Now, they are slowly figuring out what style fits best for this personnel.

I include this play to demonstrate that the Eagles see Mundt as more versatile than many here on the Blog do not. Here he's TE (actually wingback) on left side.

2026-09-24 (11).png

He releases up the field. The LB #33 keys on him.

2026-09-24 (12).png

The ball goes to Wicks on a square in as Mundt goes to the corner.

2026-09-24 (13).png

Mundt's job was to occupy the LB so Wicks could make the catch. What's notable to me is that Mundt ran the deeper route and he was open.

@just relax if you feel inclined, I would love your input on Lemon from this last game.

Beating Rams without Myles and Puka wouldn’t be as satisfying

Seems like a pretty simple fix. Don't be super predictable on 1st down especially. Come out firing and spread the defense out in 11 personnel. Get those 5 yards and now we are cooking with gas. Too stubborn to give up the predictable handoff to Barkley. When everyone and their Momma knows it coming.

Read an interesting factoid - Ben Johnson has never called plays in an NFL game where his QB wasn't the first overall pick. Goff and Williams have always been his QB.

We have to drop the fascination with running out of condensed formations all the time. We bring people into the box and our TEs other than Mundt can't block (and our OL really can't either).

JR isn't allowed more than 1yd downfield on pass plays, of course, neither is Lemon (j/k).

Think Mannion is smart enough to adjust on the fly and not be a rockhead like Patullo. This is a diverse offense. We are barely seeing the depth of it because of OL issues. Think once they get the pass blocking right, we can proceed accordingly. Gotta be really good at one thing and then we can work off of that.

I think Garrett will be a letdown this year. Puka makes me puke with his off the field stuff.

Maybe not if he's sticking with screens 😅 Kidding I like him.

On the other hand Donald looked good, which was surprising.

Unpopular opinion.....he's right, it should be.

Especially considering the difficulties in the run game.

They just need to get better at the screens. Rep the hell out of them and dial in the timing.

As JR illustrated, they can work if the whole operation is timed up correctly.

He's good at saying the right thing. He's not like Mr. Blunt (Fangio). Right now, the timing is off and it should be minimized. The OL needs to take baby steps with the realignment.
