I miss Dean and wanted the Eagles to keep him(and frankly, never loved the Campbell pick given I'm not a fan of drafting non premium positions in round 1), but I already can't handle blaming missing Nakobe Dean on the defense sucking that I'm seeing all over social media.

If your defense can't handle one Fing player being missing, and a off-ball linebacker at that... then you have bigger issues.

Oh, and Dean wasn't even on the field for SB59 and that was maybe the best defensive performance in Eagles history. It's a lame excuse, I'm sorry. Highly paid guys are underperforming and that's a way bigger problem. And Howie decided to shell out 24m per year for Jordan Davis off one good season when up until last season there was a question if they'd even pick up his option.

Agreed. DTs not playing up to the investment, Dejean regressing, safeties almost unplayable, edge rush doing nothing.

That’s all hurting a lot more than a major downgrade with their second off ball LB.

The Greenard trade and contract are so far so not good.

I liked Campbell coming out of Bama. He is not looking like anything I thought he would've brought to the table, yet. To be fair he has been hurt a ton and is definitely far behind the learning curve. He's going to need to play in order to get the experience needed, problem is it's costing us. They weren't paying Dean which just is terrible luck for us that he completely broke out and looked so good.

That happened a bit with Jordan Hicks who had a great season after he left and stayed healthy but then he started getting hurt again. I do not wish anything on Dean but he's been healthy for 3 games so far. In any case the DL not getting pressure is actually a bigger issue

No one is saying the offense isn’t a problem.

However, the defense could not get off the field in the first half either. The only time they did was after bigby’s fumble. They gave up 10 points. Bears only had 4 possessions in the first half. Really they only had three possessions where they had a long field to go (bigsby fumble was inside red zone). Guess what they only forced one punt. the bears went 66 yards for a touchdown. And went 69 yards and got a field goal. Heck the punt they forced they gave up 34 and it flipped field position. if you don’t count the end of the game where the Bears could’ve scored, the Bears scored on 5-8 possessions.

The analytical numbers, bear out the Eagles offense and defense both suck tonight. Pretending like the defense was good up until the end of the game is not true. They gave up 181 yards in the first half. To a 3rd striny quarterback down their left tackle. I would add their missed tackles was one of the worst performances of the season. They are currently ranked 31st in the league in this tackles. They have not been good.

The impact / negative plays for the D just haven't been there this year and they aren't as stout against the run as years past.

So no sacks / turnovers and Jihad playing instead of Dean means they aren't having the same number of 3rd and long opportunities to get off the field.

They look like a middle of pack bunch, not the top-5 they have been last 2 years so far

Phillies play tomorrow that should cheer everyone up.

3 and out - punt

3 and out - punt

3 and out - punt

1 first down - INT

After 2 turnovers in the first half. Run game showed up for 1 drive and pass game showed up for another. Nothing outside of that. 7 total points.

Doesn't matter if the D was playing good, let alone crapping the bed like they did today but we just aren't winning many games in this league with that production out of the O, Dejavu from last year,

I trust the defense to get fixed more than I do the offense. Fangio is more experience and better equipped to fix it. But the Eagles have problems. Their safety position is atrocious. Anybody who bought into Epps could be the starter alongside Makuba for 17 games was fooling themselves. Frankly Makuba never showed that he could be a long-term starter. Highs and lows last year and then got hurt. Epps is a backup for a reason. The other issue is they miss Dean. Campbell has been atrocious both run defense and in pass coverage. In pass coverage, he should be better. He’s starting to look very familiar to Ernie Sims who physically had all the traits you wanted, but could never put it all together and was bad against the run. On top of all that their pass rush and defensive line that’s getting paid a ton of money, has been ordinary. Greenard looked useless out there. Jordan Davis has yet to show up this year. Carter makes a play every once in a while, but for the money is being paid, he needs to be way bigger

The problem with the offense is you’re asking an offensive coordinator to implement it. To fix their offense which the pass game has essentially been broken for 2+ years. He’s not very experienced. He’s never called plays. To me he’s not equipped to do that. The reality is the Eagles needed to make a decision on Sirianni going forward. If this is the offense you want to run then he is not the guy. This is not the offense he knows. This is not the offense he’s used to. He has his stuff that he came with. that’s his background. If you wanna do this, then you gotta go all in on a head coach that believes in it and indoctrinated by it and put them in there. This we’re gonna keep him because he’s won a lot of games and we’re gonna bring mannion in because he knows his offense so we’re just gonna mesh it. it isn’t going to work the first year. And I have my skepticism it will ever be as competent as they need it

DeJean is playing hurt. They've hinted as much. Been dealing with a calf and abdomen. I just hope he doesn't have a sports hernia because that won't heal without surgery.

Dean missed 25 games in his time here with the birds. On top of that he was a complete liability in pass cov. Raiders can have him at what they’re paying him, he’s more likely to get hurt than play the whole season anyways

Howie was doing just fine until Joe Douglas returned. Maybe he wasn't part of that horrible draft with Campbell and Mukuba but still.

Carter was breaking through the line on run downs but they were running away from him almost every time. I thought the run defense was much improved but they forgot how to cover. Looked completely lost.

Potential Trade chip spitballing

Riq - 3rd rounder?

Nolan - 2nd or later draft pick plus a player under contract?

Moro - 3rd rounder?

????

If that's the case then Howie can't get all the credit for the good drafts either when Joe wasn't here. Can't have it both ways.

Johnson pantsed Fangio.

Selling after one loss? lol.

Man the highs and lows in here are wild. They could come out and beat the Rams next week and everyone in here will be like "Super Bowl here we come!” Then lose to the jags and "man Howie sucks, blow the team up, fire everyone.” 😂😂😂

Dean’s coverage got a lot better but he was injured and had bad coverage in year 2 if we’re comparing

II really didn’t love that trade. I disliked what they gave up to get a guy who’s coming off an injury and had to pay him a lot of money. Plus he was 29 years old. Hopefully he starts playing better. But I have a feeling there was a reason why Flores and the Vikings were OK dealing him and not paying him.

I got to say, this was a huge faceplant from Mannion. The 2nd half was bad. Play selection, not having a feel for the game. We should be able to dink and dunk if all else fails, but at least that moves the chains.

I don't have a clue how he had absolutely no adjustments to what the Bears were doing....or how the line had no ability to open holes again. Like you said something should be open some place.

We got to see Lebron James in a Sixers uniform today so it wasn’t all bad

To be fair it's due to injury, not like he's healthy and has been a no show on the field for the past 3 weeks. He hurt his pec lifting this training camp.

2024 season:

Top 60 picks from the last 2 years: Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, Nolan Smith, Cooper Dejeane.

Offseason additions: Barkley, Zach Baun, Mekhi Becton, Huff

Offseason subtractions: Reddick, Kelce

2026 season: Top 60 picks from the last 2 years: Campbell, Mukuba, Lemon, Stowers.

Offseason additions: Wicks, Greenard

Offseason subtractions: Dean, AJ Brown.

The influx and efflux of talent are not what they were back then.

He is one of the softest players on the team. Sadly...

Not even close. That accolade belongs to Jordan Davis and his terrible contract. Saquon still looks very explosive and when given the opportunity still looks every bit the player he was in 2024. Sadly Hurts is so terrible and the line is aging to the point he doesn't those chances much

Could say the same thing about his 2025 season. Funny isn’t it?

I still think Greenard will be fine

I would argue Dean got better in coverage each year he was with us. His third year he was solid in past coverage. His last year here he essentially became a three down linebacker because Fangio trusted him. And he was good against the run and solid in pass coverage.

The issue right now is Campbell is atrocious as a run defender. He can’t get off blocks. And when he does have an opportunity to make a tackle, he just whiffs. I would argue his run defense is far worse than Dean’s pass coverage. The book is still too early on Campbell, but man there’s been linebackers who’ve come into this league that were first round picks that everybody was super excited for because they had the physical tools. The physical tools are nice, but if you don’t have the instincts or you don’t know how to shed blocks or understand your assignment then it doesn’t matter what physical tools you have
