Just found about Lane retiring and I have to say my feelings all over the place. On one hand he is one of the greatest Eagles of all time and one of my favorite players. He gave the team over a decade of great football and was a key reason they won two SB's. I wish him nothing but the best with his family situation and hope that he is ok as it relates to this mental health struggles. On the other hand, he quit on the team point blank period. Had he retired in the off-season it's a completely different situation. The fact of the matter is the entire off-season and then season revolved around him being the team's RT. I mean, we were three games into the season and he just decided he was done and walked away an hour before the 4th game. I'm not mad at Lane, and when time goes by I doubt I will hold this against him but right now it's hard not to to some degree. I said the 2027 off-season will be time to officially say good-bye to this era of Eagles football and make major changes and I can't help but feel like this decision by Lane is emblematic of that era being over right now. Let the tank begin and hope for a top 10 pick.

The timing of his decision is not the best for the team. The timing of his decision also does not sound like it was completely in his control. His message makes it clear he is choosing his family over his career. He should be putting the needs of his family first. He is an all-time great player. Given his longevity with the team, he is probably the greatest Eagle of all-time.

You know this world has gone soft and completely lost it's mind and way when bailing on a major commitment is considered perfectly fine and anyone who disagrees with is called out and insulted for thinking otherwise. Looking back at some of the junk that @Diehardfan has gotten over his opinion is absurd. Lane quit, period, and it's ok to say that.

Miss those. I haven't given up on the season yet though. Will they pull it out? Not looking good, but I believe in them until they prove otherwise like two years ago. It's good Bell is there but that's not good for this season with their record without him. I don't like the move which is obvious but I don't hate him just the spot it puts the team in. He is a HOF and the best ever. They have a long way to go but they have the talent. It's a coaching issue and luckily most of them aren't season ending yet. Tank is the longest so far.

Why are people so excited about getting draft picks when your GM has done bupkis the last 2 years and butchered a Superbowl team that people thought of as a potential dynasty? We are gonna have to be really bad for 2 straight years at least. And get high picks. I don't think this is necessarily a retool if you strip it down. It's a full rebuild and a long one. And can take years given our bad cap space situation and the inability to accelerate a rebuild with smart free agency moves. Giants have had bad picks for years and still aren't right. And then you have Joe Douglas. 😅

Root for losses and for Howie to sell sell sell at the deadline. It's over guys.

If his parents are in declining health and don’t have much time left i get it completely. You never get more time with your parents. They get older and you see them less and have less time. That time goes by fast. He has accomplished many heights being our RT and one of the best in the game. However all that money and accolades doesn’t buy more time. That you never get back. I said last night i wish he didn’t come back and retired simply cause your family is more important than football. Enjoy the time with them you have left cause it goes by faster than you think

I’d argue he’s done a better job when he’s drafted higher. So got that going for us

You think Lane retires if we’re 4-0 and won every game by 10+ points? I’m not sure

Considering that it’s such sellers market at the trade deadline, I think this would be prudent.

On the bright side, the Eagles will now have 14 games to evaluate Bell and see if he has the ability to be part of a younger rebuilt offensive line for 2027 and beyond. This is yet another reason why I want to see Lampkin and/or Morris this year and because Jurgens is cooked and Steen is the most average "meh" starting OL I have ever seen.

Or if we had a qb who plays qb

The collateral damage here may be more than people think if you strip this down. Chiefs know how to retool on the fly. Howie needs to mimic that formula.

Said the same thing earlier with bell. Gonna get a lot of games to see what he is and make a decision going forward.

Steen has a lot of competition for that crown.

Lane isn’t getting paid for the balance of the season. He’s not holding out of camp or requesting a trade. Something bad happened in his life and he’s leaving football.

I don’t think mental illness is an excuse to bail on important commitments in life (semi loaded statement but let it go). But that’s definitively not what Lane is doing.

The seasonality of football makes offseason retirements convenient, but it’s not mandatory.

He tried to give it a go this year and couldn’t do it. This should have no impact on his legacy. I just wish he could have gone out after a better game and with a standing ovation knowing it was his last game for his sake.

Gave up 15.8% pressure rate. But I got imagine he also didn’t get many reps in practice this week so that will probably go down considering he’s gonna get all the reps.

Chiefs also trade away guys like mcduffie to get capital. People don’t want to hear this but that would be like cooper dejean getting dealt for picks. They also have mahomes as a constant with Reid. No offense to hurts and sirianni they aren’t Reid and mahomes

The thing is I don't mean bad. He would have a TON of competition for that for sure. He is just so average in a bad way which almost makes it worse.

Considering the situation, I was pretty impressed by his play

BINGO. Having Reid and Mahomes alone will always keep them relevant and a couple of good moves away from being a contender. The next coaching hire and QB have got to be the right guys and lets face it it's absolutely time for a new direction with both spots.
