I don’t even think this relates that much to some dire situation that most people do.

Lane was probably done in the offseason. He probably wanted to end it there. It wouldn’t surprise me if part of the convincing him to come back was for him to get away from the team and to clear his head. It didn’t work.

Is it the best timing to walk away in July/August for the team? No, clearly not. But I also don’t think the Eagles or Howie were blindsided today either

Lane is a legend but if it isn’t something serious that just came up then I think it’s a pretty D move to start the season and then quit.

I do think it’s something serious that just came up though. Family most likely.

No one mentioned but baun has one year left on his deal after 2026. If healthy he’d fetch a big package. don’t know cap ramifications and i believe they restructured it. Need either @vikas83 or @LeanMeanGM to break that down

I did, but you must read posts as well as Hurts reads the defense 😏

Just got home from work and read the news about Lane. Time to reset expectations.

I’ve assumed even as rickety as the Eagles have looked that they still had a good chance to win the division. I don’t feel like that’s the case now. The OL is in need of a serious rebuild. Mailata is a physical phenom but I don’t think his temperament is the leader of the OL. Frankly, until a year ago I thought Dickerson was going to assume that role. Now it seems like he and Jurgens will be following close behind Johnson out the door.

Howie has his work cut out for him to rebuild the trenches. They need EDGE to be restocked as well as a heavy investment in OL. Hopefully Bell can develop sooner than expected and they can focus on IOL.

Serious questions loom over the QB position this offseason as well, IMO.

Even more important they'd keep Trott who seemed to play well

I think your post hadn’t shown up until after i posted it.

Team could look very different next season. There are obviously varying degrees at how different it could look, but on the extreme end we could have

No Lane

Just Mailata left starting on the OL. Maybe Jurgens' contract keeps him here through 2027, but I don't see any way he's starting next season with how poorly he's played.

No more Goedert

Possibly no more Saquon

Ojomo gone

Possibly Nolan Smith if they decide to move on rather than let him walk in a year

Woolen gone

Possibly Baun gone

Fangio retiring

Then Hurts being gone

And Sirianni and the rest of the offensive coaching staff being gone.

I think it's highly unlikely all of those happen in one offseason, but it's not impossible, and I think if this season continues down the road it's going, at a minimum a lot of those things will happen.

Anyone else get the vibe Mailata won't be around much longer as well? Could see him tapping out within a few years

YARN | IS THERE ANY MORE SHIT WE CAN PILE ON? | My Cousin Vinny (1992) | Video clips by quotes | 921f916a | 紗

Is there any more crap you can pile on? Is it possible?

Bell takes over as starter. . I think they out to seriously consider playing Big Mo at G. I wonder about Fred and whether Ojukwu might take the swing T spot or maybe they activate Amegadjie. I expect one of Pierce or Steele to be at the least elevated. Blue is a wildcard there. Stowers and Calcaterra are eligible to be elevated or have a practice window opened. Wouldn’t be surprised if it is Calcaterra activated, if healthy.

Try out Tuesday. Wonder who they had in.

From a cap perspective, he probably isn't officially retiring until next year after 6/1. Otherwise it's $42M in dead cap next year on top of AJ Browns $27M. That's would be rough.

Since this is an odd situation, I’m not clear. Does that mean they will use reserve/left team designation so he doesn’t burn aroster spot?

Sunday's game will be good opportunity for a lot of these young guys. Essentially a preseason game

Yup. I would like to see Stowers out there regardless if he's ready or not

Having Mahomes helps…he’s made some pretty bad to average lines and receivers look real good.

Not too sure about him having average lines. When injuries happened during certain years and last year for example, he looked bad. Those Superbowl teams had 3 all pros and two average tackles. That's a pretty good line still. I'd take 'em. Thuney, Humphrey and Brown are studs. Receivers have been great to okay over the years with Hill and Kelce prime earlier. The years after where there's no Hill, Reid was great at scheming average guys open. Still had a good line and pretty good Kelce. His stats have dropped substantially in those years compared to his earlier career. Luckily at that time he has had Spags and a championship defense to carry a lot of the load. Takes a team.

Believe he’s talked about he’s not going to play forever. Want to say he mentioned something last year. He and lane are two of my all time favorite players. Gonna hurt seeing neither of them out there when that day comes. two of my favorite gamers i have

At this point why not? The TEs they have can't block.

If we get to the bye and we really suck, I’d let Stowers play and the young kids. Get some more info on them going into the offseason. Unfortunate but i really can see this thing combusting like 2020

Stowers could do more in the passing game then any of them right now as well

I never understood this. How come players contracts don’t just become null and void after they decide to leave the game? Seems like a breach of contract. Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything. I’m generally curious.

It’s about guaranteed money. It’s been paid and needs to be accounted for. Bonus money is amortized and gets rolled up.

Agreed. Let’s see what we have moving forward. I’d roll with Mailata, Kendall, Lampkin, Morris, and Bell on the line and get Stowers and Lemon way more involved along with Cooper to see what we have for the future. If we can hit on some of these young linemen, the future might look pretty good

Lines might have been better than I remember then. Or I’m just thinking about the past few years.

Ironically though, his best season was his first without hill.

Don’t worry guys. Eagles going to soar now!!

Kendall has played pretty well. Bell will get there. I like Steen but not sure if Howie will bring him back. Both G spots will be a big question in the offseason. Lemon is involved and getting open but the sheet bag we have at qb isn't seeing him/ throwing it to him. But yes get those two more involved. They're the future

Yea he goes on the reserve/retired list so he doesn’t use up a spot. When he actually files his papers is when the contract implications occur

Agreed. Thats the kind of thing I would announce to the world
