If we get to the bye and we really suck, I’d let Stowers play and the young kids. Get some more info on them going into the offseason. Unfortunate but i really can see this thing combusting like 2020

It could. But there is a path for this still working out if the OL has been upgraded in whole. Big if. This team has always won in the trenches. Still believe that we will be fine on defense if Carter and Greenard heal up. And I anticipate Kendall and Lampkin combo being at least average which is much more that what they had before. The speedy development of Bell learning on the job will decide a lot of things. He needs reps. Think he can already already help in the running game.

To go from where we were 20 months ago to the idea of a whole rebuild is pretty shocking. There's still a path to success here this year if we have what we think is a great GM to plug up a hole or 2 if needed. Need guys healthier, need young guys to step up. I'd like to win this weak division still. Hope we can hold the fort here in the next few weeks. But if everybody retires 😅 and shidd continues going south then it is what it is. Not yet there in forfeiting this season or future seasons.

Where my cap folks at? True or nah?

The only 3 players that make sense as trades are Woolen, Ojomo, and Nolan Smith.

Well, there’s one more. But I’ll leave that grenade for another time.

No

I trust the eagle to figure it out one way or the other. sure we may have a down year but I'm ok with that if that is what it takes. Listen I've been thru tons of down years. the recent success we've had over the last decade or even 2 has been awesome. One bad season is no big deal.

Man, part of me wonders if Stout was still here if we still end up where we are today.

Also makes me gutted to have not gotten my guy Ihaanachor with our first pick. Lemon will be fine NFL player but I just don't see that super high ceiling with him.

I know the offensive line wasn’t good last year and they weren’t like completely healthy, but if you look at the last five years prior to this season, the eagles have been relatively healthy. They’ve done a good job avoiding like a disastrous season. Where they just have a boatload of injuries and things just go sideways and it’s a year from hell. It’s kind of why it annoys me that in 2023 and 2025 with the talent they had on that roster that they kind of wasted a season where guys stayed relatively healthy

Isn't Fred hurt as well?

He was this past week, but I don't know what his long term outlook is.

Kind of. The NFL is negotiating new contracts with the media. Expectation is a bit of a bidding war but note how cash strapped Paramount (CBS) is post merger and Disney’s struggles. If the cap goes up like Howie expects, they succeed, if not this guy may be right. Note, Howie has been anticipating Lane’s retirement. By retiring, the 2026 guarantee goes away but the hit comes a bit earlier. Claw back is in question. Howie also buys insurance and none of us or OTC or Spotrac know exactly what insurance he may have taken out. That insurance offsets any cap hit. Makes the Landon renegotiation interesting.

Lane is a legend but if it isn’t something serious that just came up then I think it’s a pretty D move to start the season and then quit.

I do think it’s something serious that just came up though. Family most likely.

If I had to watch Hurts up close the last 4 weeks, I would need to focus on my mental health also.

I get why you changed your avatar, but I get so used to you in one that it messes me up for a bit when you change. In the future, if you could send out text notifications before changing, it'd be appreciated!

The OL was pretty bad last year to Stout and all the personnel was one year more degraded. I’m pretty confident that’s WHY Stout left, despite all the reports about politics and angst.

I wanted Iheanachor too, but he looked like Bell did in week 4. We’ll see who ends up with the better career.

Based on how the draft fell:

  • Ihanaechor

  • Chris Bell or Malachi Fields

  • Eli Rairdon or Oscar Delp

Dude, STFU. Clearly there is something going on with his family. This guy has been a warrior his whole career. This wasn't a spur of the moment decision just because.

Yeah sorry, some of us work. 🤣

Sucks to be you lol

I can see Steen traded, especially if Mannion has a say. Howie is not extending him. He liked Morris in that Shrine game. These guys already all played together in preseason and looked good. Yes. I'm sure they played backups at times, nevertheless they have good chemistry. OL can come back quick here. Yup. It's definitely time to bring up Majors for depth. I'm also cutting Fred. Sorry. Not in long term plans or a fit. Time to cut the dead weight and find a future gem or two. Still PO'd he didn't keep Williams, especially with LJ uncertainty.

Well now you have me on the edge of my seat.

Can anyone make sense or the cap implications of Lane's retirement? Obviously the rest of his 2026 and all of 2027 base goes away. So his cap hit this year changes to between 19-20 million.

Then there is 11.2 million in future signing bonus money, and 47.6 million in option bonus money. Does that all accelerate to this year, because it is after June 1, does it get split over this year and next year? Is there any protections written into contract for retirement and cap implications?

Eagles currently have 50+ million in combined 2026-2027 cap space, and 58.8 million in potential dead cap from Lane's contract.

I don't think they get anything of value for Steen. Last year on the contract. I like Steen but he isn't great.

I'll say it again. Maybe the salary cap guys can chime in but this is a multi-year rebuild and I would like to accelerate the cap hits ASAP. The team will be lousy and salary cap hits will make the team non-competitive but then the decks will be cleared and they can sign FA's that are good.

One thing I read while trying to find info on this, the Eagles have $390.4 million of void years on upcoming contracts though 2030. 78 million per year just in void years. This thing has to come crashing down soon.

Howie likes to retool. Lurie is old. Do you think he wants to sit around on a multi year rebuild? I'm skeptical about tearing this all down fast. But realistically, cap space will limit us in making moves . And it will be hard to get enough top draft capital to do this thing fast like Howie has done before and stay competitive. I don't want to have to be bad for years to do that. I was entertaining the trade JC & JD wagon these last couple of years and getting some high picks. Trade from your team's strengths. Kinda too late now. This team has some tough decisions to make. Much tougher path for Howie than in the past. I'm picking my spots to trade certain guys while trying to remain competitive as possible.

I actually have more issues with their 2025 draft. I set it at the time, I like Campbell but I dislike that the Eagles went off of what their identity is. Your identity isn’t taking a linebacker in the first round. I understood why they did it because they knew Dean coming off his injury so what was he gonna be when he comes back. Also gone at the end of the year.

Imo that’s not your identity. Your identity has been building through the trenches and occasionally adding a corner, a quarterback, or a wide receiver in the first round. To me you could’ve lived with a lesser linebacker in the middle rounds then going Campbell. I also understand late in the first round you take the value. However, I wanted to trade back or take the OT the chiefs took (he’s not looking great either) because I said they have a lot of holes coming up that they’re gonna need to fill. I’d rather have more picks to have more swings to fill some of those spots.

Surely he will be a post June 1 designation, meaning they will hold the retirement paperwork until June 1, '27. That allows unrecognized compensation (bonuses) against the cap to be split between '27 and '28. Since the PHI FO were already planning for him to be retiring at seasons end it shouldn't change much, however I am not a capologist so take this as speculation.
