The best argument for Nick and Hurts has always been the same.

It may not be pretty, it may not be typical, it may looks scrappy but somehow they will find a way to pull out the win. Hell, even 2024 had a lot of those against bad teams.

Problem is that has stopped happening so how do you defend the bad play / decisions. Injuries will be the obvious one for the last 3weeks

Imo the issue was it was always going to revert at some point in time. You werent always going to have the luxury of an overwhelmingly stack team. Where the talent could overwhelm your opponent and you win. I think that’s what happened in some of those games in 2024 like the Carolina Panthers game. Now that you don’t have the talent, you need your players and your coaches to elevate. Need sirianni and hurts to elevate the talent and team. they’re not doing it.

We can use the injuries to a certain extent. But the decisions and the offense didn’t look great before the injury started happening.

For the franchise QB making 50 million a year to lead them, like Brock Purdy led a bunch of backups to a win in Philadelphia in the playoffs last year.

Using this point to say- I am far from interested in searching for, and trying to trade to position ourselves for the next generational QB talent, or at least, a guy who looks like he has all the traits to be a franchise QB, pro bowl, all pro type of QB for the next decade.

I am much more interested in figuring out which guy in the QB4-QB7 or so rankings can be an excellent game manager. Play within himself. And just distribute the ball in the right place, accurately and on time.

This is the era of the NFL QB we are in. Where Geno Smith, Brock Purdy, Case Keenum, Sam Darnold types can ride their defenses and run games deep in to playoffs, and just keep the passing game humming. Not flashy. Never mistaken for the next Peyton Manning or Andrew Lucks. Im afraid the NFL is still going to be doing that. Im afraid Howie might do that.

I think if that falls in to your lap with the #1 overall pick, good for you.

I also think, 1. It most likely does not exist anymore due to the way the college game has evolved. And 2. It is far from necessary in the current generation of the NFL. As well as the other QBs named in this post, Hurts has also proved that to us in the years we made the super bowl with him.

It makes absolutely 0 sense anymore to spend tons of assets on the QB position. Thats not just the big hurdle created by the 50+ million a year contracts. That also means draft capitol as well. I dont think GMs are seeing the draft that way yet. I am ahead of the curve on this. The sooner Howie gets that, the better we will be.

Shots FIRED!!!! crazy

There was a time when Eagles fans would have taken Wilson, Watson, and Stroud

Or are they not the right shade?

Seth isnt wrong.

Today on offense.

3rd string udfa Center. Rookie 2nd string RT playing his second game.

Fred Johnson at RG.

A 3rd string udfa LG

A 4th string RB

A rookie WR who was hurt all camp, an udfa 2 year wr and another WR on a bad hammy.

A TE with a had wheel and another TE whose like 40 years old coming off serious injury, another OC and a head coach who cant make a simple decision without ten beancounters and 4 mega computers telling him what to do.

Considering what hurts had to work with today it was going to be tough sledding from the start

It was going to be tough. But not impossible. You know who made it impossible? Hurts.

Moving to a slightly different topic.

The whole reason for the change in offensive scheme is that its easier to marry up pass and run schemes with wide zone.

Yet our O cant run a simple outside zone play - the line doesn't seem to know how to block on those plays.

No one is falling for any play action that we are running out of those run looks.

So what do we think is the problem here. Our offensive coaches that we brought in (Manion, Gizzard, Mahaffey, Kuper) can't design the plays properly, cant coach it properly or our O-line is incapable of blocking that scheme or do we still have some tells that are tipping away run vs pass to the D (was a lot of discussion on this last year)?

I would take Trinidad Chambliss or Darian Mensah to replace Hurts. I must be racist.

The hate he gets here is not commensurate to his career success. A short rope AF. If this guy is Herbert, it's a walk in the park for him and he never has to buy another drink in this town. Speaking as a white person right now.

Hes on my ish list of qbs. Sick oh herberts excuses, lawrence excuses, I was sick of Murrays too. You can't be in this league this long and dont have the fundamentals down

Yeah. They would have ran then out of town in a blip. One by one. Long gone. I'm just saying the rope is probably different for a black QB. Just my opinion.

Are you sick of 2 Superbowls? There is better out there for sure. But you guys talk about him like he's Andy Dalton. Zero respect there.

oh jesus. He didnt turn the ball over... such a lowered bar. Im am so beyond uninterested in hearing hurtscuses. The pass catchers repeatedly showed out today. If he was more consistent in finding them, and throwing accurate passes, theyd have had a huge passing day. He was very much a huge issue.

Im fully aware of the OL injuries, and troubles with SOME blitzes. But they did not make it impossible to function on offense today. Much of the time, Hurts did.

I see

I was talking about Herbert brother. I dont know if you know this, but jalen doesnt read this board.

A lot of QBs would’ve won with this roster. A lot. Simply being average is all it took. Look at hurts. He played well in 2 super bowls, which was clearly an outlier. But the years we went to the Super Bowl we were run heavy offenses.

They were clearly trying to get more yards to make it a more comfortable FG.

But you have to trust Elliot to nail a ~52 yard there. Hell run the tush push on the 1st down if you want to make sure you don't lose yards on 1st down.

I think there’s a couple things going on. I don’t think the Eagles have the personnel to run this offense to its full effectiveness. They’re basically with one good tight end who isn’t even a good blocker anymore. Your offensive line doesn’t really fit the scheme at some place. You’re kind of adapting it to what you have at the moment. Your quarterback also is not equipped to play in this offense. Really doesn’t play to his skillset.

Asking a rookie OC to implement an offense, call plays for the first time as your HC doesn’t know the system.

I’d add there’s a reason why tampa and minnesota let gizzard and kuper go.

Stoutland got a ton of blame last year for the OL but it’s not much better this year and the run game also isn’t. Frankly i rather have him here than Kuper even if he’s teaching a new blocking scheme. Heck id let him be run game coordinator. Take some off the plate of mannion.

Sheil also made a good point, should’ve had a senior assistant to help mannion. They have no one like that.

Hurts plays the rest of this season. There isn’t any getting around that, and there isn’t a suitable #2 QB on the roster.

I said before this season started Hurts is a diminishing asset and I have zero interest in extending him to another contract. I would have gladly eaten the dead money to move on after 2026. With Lane and Jurgens now leaving dead money I’m not sure that’s even possible.

I do think the Eagles have to draft a QB in the 2027 draft to create a light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t see Hurts being benched this season. I very much hope he’s benched at some point next year.

Ok so you’re agreeing that he’s going to start 2027 as the starter?

.After Goedert got the 1st down, it should have been 3 runs and run the clock out. Obviously he should have kicked it out for the end zone, I'm glad Nick took responsibility for that. They only had 8 secs, make Trevor have to do a hail Mary. I'm upset because the Eagles should have won this week and last week and be 4-1 right now, Damn. The only saving grace is the NFC BEAST is looking like the NFC LEAST so the Division is still in play, everyone playing like a hot mess right now. Boys lose to an 0-4 Tampa, Birds lose in last 8 seconds, GMen and Washington Tie. SMH,

I don’t know, how much would you have trusted Jake with a 51 yarder? If the option was to get 7 yards closer with the Lemon catch and take your chances with 8 seconds remaining, I probably choose that 10/10 times.

I think the bigger problem is how they went about getting those extra yards. Imo you had to run on first down. You had to make the Jaguars burn their last timeout on 1st down. Cause then it opens up whatever you wanna do on 2nd down. You could throw it and if you catch it, stay in bounds, let the clock run down and call the time out with 3 seconds. If it’s incomplete, you have to run it on third down and call a timeout with 3 seconds left. If it’s caught and you go out of bounds, then you could just run it on third down, let the clock run down and then call timeout around 3 seconds.

The Eagles were already in field-goal range for Jake Elliott. A incomplete pass on first down is what allowed there to be a chance at time being remaining. Lemon going OOB also allowed for the jags to have time remaining regardless of what the eagles did on 3rd down. Those are two brutal mistakes by eagles and lemon.

I’m no special teams expert but it’s odd to me that our kickoff return/kickoff coverage is ass while our punt/punt return has been performing very well.

Avoiding turnovers isn't something you can build an offense around

Can't build an offense around the deep ball when your qb gets happy feet.

His not that good with his legs anymore.

I'm not arguing to give him an extension.

I think he its hard to build the team around him that Hurts needs to really succeed while you are paying him $50m+

But he does have certain traits that do contribute to winning

It’s easy to be doom and gloom now, but this division is still wide open. Jameis Winston is not leading the Giants to a division win. The dust will settle with them.

As of now QB4 in this draft is between Chambliss or Mestemaker. We would be so lucky to see teams overpay for top guys and have one of them fall within range for us to select, or make a small trade for.

Trade for Bennett from LA, and draft one of those guys, we have a great situation to be able to bench Hurts next year when he continues his poor play.

I 100% agree - that's why I said that hell they could have run a tush push on 1st down if they were worried about a run play knocking them further back
