Nick compounds mistakes. We saw it last week and we saw it again today. He got it wrong against the Bears and now he’s convinced to get it right even when it’s the wrong decision.

I mean the Wicks shot play on zero blitz could have looked like that as well.

They just nailed the execution on one play and missed the other by inches

Over-corrects.

Said that last week as well and was on display again today

I have to assume that they have one. Or at least talking to Mannion. Like on the fourth and three that they went for, I’m not even sure it came down to them going for it or punting the football. That would’ve been a 59 to 60 yard field goal. Jake Elliott has made a 58 yard field goal in worse conditions this year. I would’ve loved for a reporter to ask him if they’re going for it on fourth down or punting or was it a discussion of going for it or kicking the FG.

maybe a better word than catchable was reasonable. That was a reasonable ball that was just out of reach.

And it’s catchable for a faster wr.

Nah. This is why QBs and WRs run routes together, to get that timing down. Doesn’t matter if he’s 4.3 or 4.7, he’s throwing to a receiver, not an arbitrary landmark.

Can someone explain to me why we keep going for it on fourth down ?... just kick the damn field goal

So I didn’t see this angle because I was watching the game on my phone at a kids soccer game…

This is absolutely not a defense of Hurts. He has to make that throw catchable, even if it’s severely underthrown… but should we be running a stutter and go against zero blitz with a makeshift OL that gave up pressure on more than half our dropbacks?

I know many will see how open he was and immediately say yes, but that’s kind of a long developing play against immediate pressure.

Thoughts?

I think the stutter is what makes get wide open.....you see the DB hesitate a take a step towards him and he is toast.

On the other side Lemon runs straight till he sets up his comeback and the DB matches his depth.

Why are we running Moore in this 3 WR set rather than Cooper though?

Damn you for putting me in a position to defend Hurts, but he had a jail break blitz in his face and heaved it to almost the exact right spot for that route.

The defender was playing it around the sticks and if Wicks ran any other route, he wouldn’t have been so open…the defender would have crash down on him or just flowed with him.

They were a couple inches from a touchdown after what started off as an abysmal situation.

I thought the whole sequence was fine from everyone involved.

I’m in agreement that the stutter helps open him up. I’m mostly talking about it also being a route that takes a while to open up against zero blitz.

Yea the stutter and go was about a yard or two shy of the first down marker which is exactly what the defender was playing. It’s the only reason he got so open in the first place.

They obviously didn’t know ahead of time what kind of blitz if any they’d run. I don’t think that call was specifically to beat an all out blitz. And it was open it was a missed throw. They just don’t do anything well on offense right now. I mean it’s gotten so bad that if they have one not even great drive, but just halfway decent drive in an entire half that somehow, laughably, becomes like a revelation. They’re basically the worst at almost everything offensively in the NFL and historically bad in other areas. The entire thing is just broken and it’s not getting fixed without a major overhaul. Coaching first then beefing the personnel back up. I’m hoping ultimately that’s what the deadline will help with. The team needs a lot of picks to build this offense back up and hopefully with a real coaching staff next time.

Hurts faced a 54 percent pressure rate despite having the shortest time to throw in his career. We faced a ton of blitzes, and they almost always worked.

Howie was TICKED.

It was 3rd and 14 with the man defender over Wicks sitting right in front of the sticks. So a shorter route asks Wicks to break a tackle on a likely back foot floater in the face of that blitz...as the defender crashes into Wicks. Probably more of a hospital ball situation. When you need 14 yards, any route is going to take time to open up if you are throwing for a first in the air. JMO

What were our numbers in 2023? Cause we had a similar issue of not being able to pick up the blitzes or an answer to them

but works bc the db is camping the first down line

Ok so you’re agreeing that he’s going to start 2027 as the starter?

Depends on how bad this season gets. His ineptitude might force Howie’s hand.

Hopefully Howie understands if the QB doesn’t stop the clock with 25 seconds left and give JAX an extra timeout there would never have been a kick to lose on.

I really can't reconcile my head with the notion that Mannion doesn't already have full control of the offense.

He somewhat does. In the sense that hes in charge, not Sirianni. But he also doesnt because in training camp, prior to even making it to pre-season he was already searching for ways to run things Hurts was comfortable with. So at that point, Mannion's offense started going out the window.

Lemon and Wicks balled out. Those CBs couldnt cover them and those guys made tough catch after tough catch. The QB didnt get them the ball enough. He threw a ton of uncatchable balls. Spazzed in clean pockets. Checked to a screen that got blown up when we all know we cant run screens (Kelce said Hurts checked to it).

The OL is not elite. It may not eve be above average. But it is not the reason the offense couldnt function. It definitely gave us a chance.

Hurts was 21/40 passing. There were not 19 times where he was getting hit as he passed the ball and had no time.... Also, he needs to stop being excused for every one of those. QBs can make tough plays too. He misses those throws and everyone always says... well, there was pressure...

Hey im not saying he played great but it was a tall task and I think your assertion of how awesome the WRs were is exagetated.

The second part is what irritates me more than anything. I am not an NFL head coach or an offensive coordinator. But I have the knowledge and understanding of how that’s supposed to play out.

Can you start for the Eagles at QB next week? Sounds like you have a leg up on Hurts.

Lets be honest, hurts has no interest in being that option either

I dont know about that

Without Barkley, Bigsby, and Shipley it seems very curious it never occurred to Hurts to pull the ball down and help out on the ground. 2 carries for 2 yards doesn’t really prop up his 21-for-40 passing numbers

I have you know I’m not a hurts lover. But that’s on 3 people. That’s a nick sirianni issue. That’s a Mannion issue. And a hurts issue. All three of them should have known that and understood it. That’s a failure on three different people and three different level levels.
