EMB Blog: 2026 Regular Season (Part 1)

Oh he can be worse. People 5 months ago said this year’s offense couldn’t be any worse than 2025 and I tried to warn people things can always be worse.

The overwhelming, encroaching upon universal blog consensus was that the offense would be massively improved simply with the subtraction of Patullo, regardless of any erosion of talent or limitations of HUrts. It was accepted as so absolute, matter-of-fact, and inevitable that anyone who doubted it was instantly dismissed.

Also taken for granted was the relentless improvement of the offense over the course of the season, almost like the manifest destiny of westward expansion.

Yeah especially when you’re down the two best playmakers and play 3 backup OLineman.

he really does. I think thats part of JR quitting too. He posted all the stills of him having a nice game. And I think he did that week. But then last week followed it up with a stinker. And another stinker this week.

I hated the signing but thought he would at least be the blocker he was advertised to be. He has not been. I wonder what could account for his instant regression in this scheme.

Maybe he took a TO due to Howies 2 bad drafts in a row, and not the best roster construction this year.

More of the Hurts quote, makes it even worse. So much for 100% alignment, 0% entitlement. First one to break is the franchise QB. Good leadership. As if there werent a million things about his own performance he could have focused on.

"Again, it's not my place, and we're prepared. I'm prepared as a quarterback to not worry about those things. I'm honoring the play call, honoring the things that are coming in the game. When I'm up at night, yeah, I think, man, should have I said something or should I have took a step back and said, wait. But ultimately, there's a commitment to that and going out there and executing. So this was one where it did not work in our favor.”

Who are these two best playmakers??

#1 - #3 were the points I made.

In a lot of situations it can make sense to kick - today was not that day given the totality of what we had already seen re flow of game

By next week, ideally, they'll have Devonta, Barkley, and Kendall back.

That means they'll pivot from a replacement crew to the fullest iteration of their offense (minus three offensive linemen they never should have relied upon in the first place). They are going to need a few games of that before they have any willingness to actually make changes (such as activating Stowers).

I really want to see Morris get in there at LG at some point. The Lampkin infatuation is cute, but treat it like the middle school romance that it is and start looking for a long term relationship. Need to know if Morris can be penciled in as the 2027 LG or if they need to draft one.

Ravens offense without Lamar is better than ours

So my original look forward from a couple weeks ago the Eagles would lose the Rams and Jags game, beat the Panthers, lose to Dallas, then the Washington game would kinda be the game where if they lose everyone checks out in the season and if they win people cling to hope.

I still feel similarly except I’m not so sure Eagles beat the Panthers anymore. They might, I mean maybe the defense has figured something out and they shut the panthers down and are able to score enough to beat them at home. But Panthers are coming off a bye. Eagles coming off returning from London, a devastating loss. We’ll see. Don’t feel good about the cowboys game I think we match up really bad with them in that they can really score but I don’t think we have the offense to take advantage of their awful defense. Kinda like the Bears matchup was a bad one for us.

I think this offense would fall apart with Mckee running it. Not to call Hurts the glue; it has fallen apart plenty with him running it. But as Siri's seat gets hotter and if Hurts keeps deflecting like that, Siri might try to save his job by showing people what a different QB might look like in this offense. He's getting fired on this timeline anyway. Might as well jump onto another one and see what happens.

I think we're not there yet and I think that would make the team worse...but if you get into Siri's head and think about the rapidly evaporating scenarios in which he keeps his job, that at least grasps at one of them.

I made the points 2 and 3 earlier today on here after the game. You had guys on kickoff unit that aren’t usually on kickoff unit. Because you have injuries and trotter are getting thrown out of the game, there’s guys on that unit that aren’t usually on that unit. Furthermore, you have guys are doing double duty by being on special teams and playing significant snaps now. So that’s an increase in fatigue and potential for a mistake or mental lapse.

I’d rather kick it through the end zone and ask my defense to hold up. Have my guys play the boundaries. In order for them to kick a 67 yard field goal, they have to get 15 yards. If that first play is incomplete, the game is basically over unless they do a lateral play to score or get a penalty that sets them up. if they complete it and don’t get out of bounds game is over. If you get a sack the game is over. The Jaguars would’ve had to be perfect with eight seconds and no time out to catch a 15 to 20 yard pass and get out of bounce. I trust fangio and his unit to understand we have to play the boundary and not allow them if caught to get out of bounds. If they are basically perfect i tip my cap to them.

Then again, none of this even curse if Nick Sirianni, Mannion and Jalen hurts knew how clock management is supposed to work.

It feels like a brain fart by the coaching and is definite mismanagement. Just like how the Redskins game ended in sheer chaos. Leaves you baffled. If Sirianni has no problem going on 4th downs on offense and leaving the defense in bad spots if they fail; why would there be any hesitation to give his defense the chance to stop the Jags in 8 seconds?

Issue is our offense sucks against good and bad defenses alike. Just blitz everyone and watch us punt all day.

So team's with their talent stacked on offense that can put us in an early, irrecoverable hole are probably an even worse matchup.

....I mean, I know this may sound crazy...

But maybe, just maybe, not being able to throw the ball on time doesn't help in several offenses, and it's not exclusive to making things harder for Reich's coaching tree? Not like we'll ever know, but just some food for thought.

Ravens / Cowboys game was probably playing on his mind.

His actions always seem to have a recency bias - what happened last couple of weeks

Yeah dont want it to get to that point, but it wouldnt be the worst thing. Remove Hurts from the Hurtscuses. If McKee tears it up, its the only way these people will ever stop blaming the new OC of the year, and Sirianni.

If it gets even worse, then we can draft Smith and find a new QB to throw him the ball.

The difference was the ravens had a timeout left. If he’s thinking about that game, then he clearly didn’t understand the situations weren’t the same. Having no timeouts is much different than having one time out and being able to use the middle of the field.

This game should be over and ended in a tie.

October was pretty brutal last year too, but not this bad.

The seat is mainly warming because the fanbase doesn't like him, if he was judged by the same measure as the other HCs we've had of the 2000's, it wouldn't be a conversation. There is literally 0 other coaches where the fanbase would be talking about firing them with a roster situation this bad after 5 games 2 years out from a Super Bowl win. 0. Doug won 4 games in a whole season and people were okay just getting rid of Press Taylor. Lol.

Sirianni is basically who McNabb thought he himself was in his feelings. (As in him never letting go of being booed on draft day and taking that as the fanbase always disliking him.)

That’s cause Declan Doyle is a good OC and plays to their strengths. he’s also not a first year OC. Was OC last year for the bears and now OC for the ravens. Add on their head coach is a defensive coach, so definitively know it’s his offense.

I'm not saying it was the right decision.

One of my issues with him, particularly in recent years, is he overcorrects to what happened in recent weeks rather than him or his staff correctly analysing each situation on its own merits

PS: Both these teams run game schemes would work amazing with what Stout likes to do
