So I didn’t see this angle because I was watching the game on my phone at a kids soccer game…

This is absolutely not a defense of Hurts. He has to make that throw catchable, even if it’s severely underthrown… but should we be running a stutter and go against zero blitz with a makeshift OL that gave up pressure on more than half our dropbacks?

I know many will see how open he was and immediately say yes, but that’s kind of a long developing play against immediate pressure.

Thoughts?

Thoughts are, pay attention. What have the eagles routinely done on plays like 4th and 1, 4th and 2, basically late down, short yardage plays in high leverage situations? Theyve thrown go balls.

Go routes and hitches are what Jalen goes to when he needs a play.

Dont ask who draws it up. Ask who the hell is calling those routes. Its been the same under every coordinator because its been the same QB.

Pay attention to the late drives last game- hitches like crazy. This game final drive, lots of hitches on the field.

What was refreshingly missing from the offense in weeks 1 and 2? Almost no hitches.

What is the team going to when its Hurts clutch time? Hitches, and go routes.

Its Fing Hurts.... Its been Fing Hurts for years...

Howie was TICKED.

I feel bad for Jake. He was clutch AF. He deserves accolades for that one after a tough last 2 seasons.

He somewhat does. In the sense that hes in charge, not Sirianni. But he also doesnt because in training camp, prior to even making it to pre-season he was already searching for ways to run things Hurts was comfortable with. So at that point, Mannion's offense started going out the window.

I mean it in the sense of Mannion vs Sirianni, not Mannion vs. Hurts limitations.

Mannion's got what he wants to do. He implemented it throughout camp and everyone said Hurts and the passing game looked awful. Then they surprised everyone with an unexpectedly decent first two games against total cupcake defenses. Then the bottom fell out the last 3 weeks with zero signs of ongoing progress. The current offense isn't Mannion's vision, it's his attempt to call plays for the personnel he has. Same can be said for the 4 playcallers that came before him.

I just think Sirianni is of minimal impact.

The straight up refusal to use extra blockers against the blitz is baffling. TE will stay in every once in a while or be asked to chip occasionally.

Heck, we even had a play this game where DG was motioned away from the blitz….

Everyone talked up Hurts' week 1 performance WAY too much. Though he did use his legs to bail us/himself out on 3rd downs a couple times, which is absolutely what is needed since he kills us with his inability to throw the ball.

That was the somewhat good thing to come out of it. But still bad that he needed to do it, all because of himself.

While I think we are in groundhog day and no one can see it with the early season attempts at a normal offense followed by the boring hitch and go-route fest clustered at the LOS for the rest of the year....followed by a new playcaller after blaming it all on the last one...

I do think that was the right route for that situation.

The one thing Hurts did there was put a TON of air under the ball, hoping Wicks could run under it.

Still, great QBs try to put it in a better spot even if the take a hit. Hurts was more worried about avoiding the hit and just getting the ball out. It was a legit Eli Manning close my eyes and hope type of throw.

Hurts has routinely been bailed out by AJ Brown and Smith on those balls. And thanks to those guys, incorrectly got labeled as one of the elite deep ball throwers in the NFL.

This one didnt connect with Wicks.

Johnny Mundt also sucks

I just checked the Flyers score. 77 games left in the season.

I don't think this will matter much unfortunately. I actually think something about Philadelphia has changed in the past 10 years, and the result is basically that people can't really function unless they know the direct accountability of every person related to the Eagles. They believe the fans should know all divisions of responsibility, basically, otherwise it can be assumed that the fans are correct about who's at fault for anything and everything.

It's a fanbase type that's kind of incompatible with head coach types that aren't McVay, Shanahan, and Reid. Unfortunately, the entire league has been hunting for those types for quite some time now, and failed to get them more often than getting them successfully.

he really does. I think thats part of JR quitting too. He posted all the stills of him having a nice game. And I think he did that week. But then last week followed it up with a stinker. And another stinker this week.

I hated the signing but thought he would at least be the blocker he was advertised to be. He has not been. I wonder what could account for his instant regression in this scheme.

6ers are done with pre-season and have no real games for over a week....

I mostly agree. Those throws are really hard to connect on and 3rd and 14 against a defense that smells blood showing you a total blitz (against our OL) is an impossible situation. The fact that the play call, QB, protection, and WR came 1-2 inches from a TD is kind of impressive, especially given our standards on offense.

That said, you are precisely right. AJ Brown and Devonta Smith are two of the absolute best deep ball trackers in the entire NFL. And that's a huge part of why Hurts has been labeled one of the deep ball passers in the NFL. He throws it up, they get under it. If we had Devonta in that game, that probably would have been 6 though...

Penix throwing motion kinda reminds my of a left handed Phillip Rivers

He was drafted in the 2nd round for his athleticism.

Problem is compared to NFL players he’s not all that athletic and has OK hands, doesn’t know how to run routes nor block.

well he isnt gonna develop on IR and he cant be any worse than Mundt or the corpse of Ertz running around out there

I wonder what the odds are the season ends with Embiid saying "me and James can’t do everything” again …

Which is strange why they just don’t let Stowers play and take his lumps. We have nothing behind Goedert. And I don’t wanna hear this "blocking BS” cause none of the guys that are supposed to be "blocking TEs” are good at it either. So at least add another receiving threat to the mix

I think the book that is out on beating the Eagles O is stack the box, disguise pre-snap looks, shift late and blitz often.

Essentially take the run away and don't make it easy on Hurts and OL to process where the pressure is coming from and force Hurts to play the quick recognition game.

Part of the reason D's can sit and do this over and over again is we don't consistently make them pay for taking these risks and they know we aren't snapping the ball till <5 on the clock because QB1 likes to take his time and takes his time reading the D pre-snap, even though he does perfectly fine in more hurry up situations. Some more variation in tempo and when we snap the ball might help in catching D's off-guard / not in position for where they want to end up if we could quickly read and react to that. Would be good for the coaches to make some adjustments to that

Oh he can be worse. People 5 months ago said this year’s offense couldn’t be any worse than 2025 and I tried to warn people things can always be worse.

You are hysterical....sad if Mundt was so bad he offed JR. I got into it with him about how useless Mundt was.

TE's are like pitchers. Having an arsenal makes your best pitch more effective. Being one dimensional makes your best pitch worthless. If teams know you are just in there to block...unless you block like an OT, it's not going to be pretty. If teams know you are a useless blocker, unless you separate like a WR, that's not going to be effective either. I don't care that "this offense" or any other offense features a Y and an F/U TE. Our TE's are so over the top one dimensional that it's a liability. There needs to be a semblance of balance in their game.

Im guessing they didnt expect Mundt to suck. Maybe Stowers comes off IR and gets a shot.

Its not Mundt being bad that contributed to the quitting. Its that people were negative and depressing for calling Mundt bad. Im sure most of it was the Hurts bashing, but people continued to call out Mundt after JRs post so I bet that contributed.
