I'm totally fine with Wicks, Cooper, and Lemon. I haven't even thought about AJ Brown and we haven't missed him at all really, especially the 2025 80% effort AJ Brown

Well, that royally sucked (yes, that's a bad pun because the game was in London). 2 straight weeks this team was in a position to win games that, given the injury report, they had no business winning. Glass half full - it's encouraging and reinforcements are coming. Glass half empty - team should be 4-1 and is poorly coached and finding ways to lose. The whole season is going to come down to these next 4 games, all of which are winnable, and 3 of which are in the division.

  • Let's just get this out of the way - that was coaching malpractice multiple times at the end of the game. First off, you have 1st and 10 at the Jags 34, Jags have 1 timeout. And you call a pass? Run the damn ball, make them use the last time out. Then you can throw on 2nd down to get closer, run on 3rd, call timeout with 3 seconds left, and Jake's kick is the last play of the game. I get that a 52 yarder isn't a gimme, but Jake has been solid all year. You just CAN'T do that.

    • For those killing Lemon for going out of bounds on 2nd down, that's why he's a rookie. Momentum taking him to the sideline, you can't leave that up to a rookie.

    • I have no problem with what Hurts said in the PC - he doesn't call the plays.

  • After that boondoggle, kicking it short is just mind numbing. There's no excuse. I'd be fine if they had fired Nick on the flight home - CEO coach can't get that wrong.

    • Just guard the sidelines and game is over with one snap from their 35.

OFFENSE

  • Some good, some bad from Hurts. Without a ton of weapons, and a makeshift line, he did enough to win and left the field with the lead with 8 seconds left. The miss on the bomb to Wicks sucked, but I kinda thought Wicks slowed down a little. But with less than zero help from the running game, he put us in a position to win.

  • 16 carries for 20 yards by the running backs. No, that isn't a typo. 16 carries for 20 yards. The blocking wasn't THAT bad. Being down to RB4 was a real problem - we need Barkley back.

    • In all seriousness, this running game is complete crap and needs to be scrapped. We can't run it from under center to save our lives.

  • Lemon did some nice things, as did Wicks and Cooper. When Smitty comes back, we have a solid WR core. Goedert was effective as well.

  • The offensive line was...better? Lampkin gave up pressures but battled, and Bell looked OK in his 2nd start. Majors was fine other than a couple of snaps. Removing Jurgens did help, and if Kendall and maybe Landon come back, there's a chance for them to be average, which would be real improvement.

DEFENSE

  • Welcome back Jalen Carter! It kind of looked like he had his cast off? Either way, he wrecked the game for the Jags, and we were unlucky not to recover either fumble. But that's the monster we need on the inside. Davis was better as well.

  • Unreal we lost Hunt on a BS after the play action.

  • Baun is a stud, but Campbell...I've been a defender, but at this point, play Trotter (which was the plan before the BS ejection). Campbell is just lost out there.

  • Pass defense took a step back when Carter went out and Moore came in. Hope Carter is OK this week.

  • Q, Coop and Riq were solid as usual. That TD catch on Riq...can't play it any better.

  • The first Jags TD was just a terrible play all around, but feel like Mukuba was mainly at fault there.

Lost in the argument about not kicking a touchback… only getting that kick to around the 10-yard line was fairly brutal execution.

Wicks and Cooper have been a pleasant surprise when things are clicking

Seriously. Dude was half arsing it out there all year, being emo as heck. I hated watching him play as much as I hated watching the offense as a whole.

If it continues down this path, I think the difference would be the new HC/OC wouldn’t be tasked with improving Hurts/offense, it would be laying the groundwork to eventually replace Hurts, as early as 2028 with our war chest of picks.

I believe the groundwork is already laid. 2026 is the year for the transition to start, or at least get a definitive answer. Bring in Mannion to lay the foundation for the offense and see how Hurts picks it up and learns it. If Hurts can pick it up and run it well, they can feel comfortable extending him and rolling into year 2 with Mannion. If he struggles, it gives an easy path to let Hurts play out the rest of the year and then move on this offseason from both Hurts and Siri.

I'm not much of a cap person, but I don't think Hurts is playing in 2027 on his current deal, and with the way the seasons going the FO isn't going to be comfortable extending him. They fired Doug 2 years after winning the SB, if things continue the way they are now I don't see how Siri stays.

3 bad weeks in a row for Sirianni against top NFL opponents and coaches.

  1. Bears game- Eagles come out not ready to play and get mugged early. Dalton as your backup is already a bad decision before he even takes a snap. And predictably throw s a rookie throw straight to the opposition in his first pass and last pass as an Eagle. 😅 Blame Sirianni (and Howie too) for not identifying he's a scrub and that he shouldn't be on the roster in the 1st place. Also, could have called a TO to wait to put Hurts back in after being in the tent. Just bad management and ability to think quickly on your feet.

  2. Rams game- Eagles went for 4th downs in bad spots ( going for it from your own 38 is just awful and insulting even) against a top opponent like the Rams who would easily make you pay more times than not with that offense. He left the defense hanging to dry with bad field position in that whole game and likely tired them out unnecessarily. Also, passed up 3 points with that controversial call, which I see both sides of that argument. Overall, the mentality in that game was all wrong, given all the injuries and predictable struggle to put any points up in that game. Doesn't read the room well or know time and place.

  3. Yesterday's Jags game- Hated that 4th and 1 call on the 37 yard line early in the game and giving it to Shipley. Where's the Tush Push/QB sneak or you can just take the 3 points, whereby Elliott hasn't missed yet this year. More imagination in these kind of plays would be welcome. And of course. The kickoff. Enough said. And the overall time management in that last drive to leave any time on the the clock at all. He will learn that lesson for the rest of his coaching career.

If he's a CEO coach he has to be elite at the small details or why even bother. This team rarely wins the coaching edge in any football game. Margin of error is smaller and smaller with this team, with diluted talent since 2024, so winning on the margins matters.

And our mobile QB doesn't want to run anymore

He ran twice for two yards.

That's just who he is.

Since we are all suicidal, here are some potential reasons for hope:

  1. Wicks, Lemon and Cooper have all started to shine some with Smitty out. Obviously their opportunities will decrease when DeVonta is back, but this is the deepest WR group we have had in a while. And Hurts seems more willing to spread it around. Wicks in particular has been a very pleasant surprise.

  2. Bell isn't a massive liability out there, which is very encouraging for a rookie who was unexpectedly forced into action.

  3. Lampkin and Kendall show promise and are better than Jurgens already (we'll see what Landon looks like if he comes back).

  4. Jalen Carter may finally be able to wreck games, and Davis looked better this week.

  5. Greenard should be back next week.

  6. Seems Vic is ready to bench Campbell and go to Trotter

  7. Carter seems like a vast improvement over Epps

  8. The division is utter trash

The goal here seems to be to try and stabilize, get some guys back, and win a terrible division. My biggest concern right now is the running game. The defense has played very well the last 2 weeks, and hopefully getting Barkley, Smith, Kendall and maybe Dickerson back will help the offense.

I was saying at the time, just line up under center and freaking sneak it. If they don't want to turn it around and hand it off vs. 0 blitz, OK, I get that, but just f'ing sneak it.

Honestly, run it on 1st down and make them waste the last time out - sneak or kneel if Hurts' calf injury means you didn't want to sneak. You can throw on 2nd down to get closer if you want, then run on 3rd if incomplete or out of bounds to take clock to :03, call timeout, kick FG.

Complete coaching malpractice.

Yep. I explained this like eight times yesterday to people. The worst thing they did was decide to throw against a cover zero blitz on 1st and the pass nearly got picked on the sideline. I actually said during the game, I’m surprised they haven’t run a QB draw in this particular situation. They’ve done it in the past when teams have tried to send all our blitzes and they’ve actually caught teams and gotten big chunky yards doing it.

It didn't start this season. He ran less last year with the report that he wants to run less

Can you give me the link to the article where Nick and KP told Hurts not to run. Because that's the opposite of the report last year that Hurts wants to run less last year

Sure

"We're always thinking about how to protect Jalen"

Now from Hurts

Jalen Hurts Responds to Report Claiming He Wants to Run t...

Reports have recently emerged suggesting Jalen Hurts wanted to run the ball less this season.

When asked if these reports were true, Hurts asked back, "If you don’t mind me asking, how did we come to that conclusion or rationalize that?”

After the reporter clarified that there have been reports about him wanting to run the ball less, Hurts said, "I’ve always been focused on doing whatever it takes to win and I’ve always put my energy on trying to bring the game-plan and the strategy that week to life, so I’ll continue to do that.”

Now we have an obviously frustrated Hurts saying what he did yesterday.

The calf injury would explain this past game. However, there was an article last year, saying he doesn’t wanna run as much. And then the number is kind of followed suit that he wasn’t running as much. I tend to think this is more of a decision by him because him running had led to more injuries later in the season and him missing time.

No, there was an article where they asked him and Hurts basically said how the F did you come to that BS.

I think the new touchback rule is flawed in that it makes it too easy to score a last second field goal. I don’t think it makes the game more exciting, it just makes it stupid

Ok that makes sense now. Sirianni was banking on the last kick return to be nullified by a penalty. That's why he decided to kick it to them. Makes sense

The TD return was nullified by a holding, which is the reason is was returned for a TD.

Kick returns that counted where returned to

15 yards to the Jax 26

30 yards to the Jax 35

18 yards to the Jax 25

Based on kick returns that counted, best case scenario the Jags would not have gotten within 15 yards of midfield.

Great play call by the Jags DC. All out blitz knowing Hurts would panic and throw it away.

Lemon has to know to go down, then you bleed the clock, call timeout and kick the FG.

You can't just ignore the fact that they housed one because the refs decided to call a hold.

With all the injuries and Trotters ejection there is just no reason to put the game in the hands of the ST unit instead of the defense.

I literal LOL'd

I think that is a feature and not a flaw. No coincidence there have been a ton of WWF style "wait, there's actually one second left on the clock!" plays this year.
