I disagree, we have a lot of players who used to be great.  The vast majority of the players that could be deemed 'good' are on the downside, and that's not good for the long term.   Time's yours.

 

The comparison to 2015 into 2016 to now... in 2015 heading into 2016 the Eagles had Cox, Graham, Jenkins, Johnson, Brooks, Kelce, Ertz, Hicks, even Peters were players that were either at the top of the game or ascending.  They had moved past their learning curve and were ready to dominate.  Cox, Johnson, Brooks and Kelce were 4 guys that could have been looked at as being at the absolute pinnacle of the NFL at their respective positions.  Cox was the #2 DT in the NFL.  Johnson - best RT.  Brooks - arguably the best OG in the NFL.  Kelce was the best OC, imo, but no worse than #5.   And... Wentz exploded in 2017, which was also dramatically unexpected.  Is Hurts poised to do that in 2022 or 2023?  Time will tell.   But, if Hurts isn't that guy, then the rest of this is academic.    But, right now there is no one on this roster that could be compared to the talent they had in 2015 at these other positions... Cox, Johnson, Brooks, Kelce... there's no one close to being those guys on this roster right now, including those guys.

Brandon Graham spotted at Wonderland Amusement Park in Ocean City NJ today. Pulled up in a surrey bikecart and took a stroll around the facility. Nice to see him out and about.

This is an empirical report with no visual evidence. Cell phone was in the truck, its not surgically attached to my hand. My niece works there and I had brought her lunch. As expected, he's a generally happy person. Instantly recognized. Big smiles for everyone.

Tried to get on the Spinning Teacups but it was full up with 2 yr olds....

No way in hell. 

Wilson, all though he reminds me of McMahon, has an absolute cannon for a arm.  He would be picked way over Hurts as well.

 

 

 

Lance isn’t better than Wentz coming out. Both were under experienced against lesser opponents. Lance threw for more than 200 yards three times.  JMU held him to 72 yards passing.  He barely beat them and did so with his feet.  We are talking the Missouri Valley Football Conference.  Only two schools in the conference with more than 20,000 students. Most are the size of NDSU, around 12,000.  Name the last starting NFL defensive back from that conference. That’s the type of conference where teams in conferences like the Big 10, the Big 12 etc. get there non conference warmup games where they beat the snot out of the little conference teams.  The Bison’s big school opponent that Lance played against?  UC-Davis.  I thought Wentz was a gamble and I think Lance is a gamble.  

Personally, I think this was a bad QB class year and said it regularly.  Wilson was good in 2020 but the Covid thing impacted a lot of teams. He was not very good in 2019.  Didn’t play against a lot of talented backfields this year.  Lance had a strong showing in 2019 but opted out after one game this past season but he is extremely green.  Fields had a couple of good years at OSU. Same knocks on him as on Hurts but I do think he has a better arm. Alabama offense translates better to the NFL than OSU’s.    Not a fan of any of them.  Wasn’t a huge fan of Hurts either. Like Lance and Fields, he ran too much in college but that is the college game.  Second in the Heisman voting his last year.  Like Russell Wilson (another graduate student transfer), got his degree and transferred.  Got his degree in three years.  So yeah, with the information on him from Bama and the Sooners, I think he would have been selected higher in 2021 and I think he has a chance to be a better QB than the first round QBs this year.  Burrows and Herbert are better than any QB this year.  Lawrence may be better than Tua.  I am not sold on Love but liked him more than I liked Wilson.

Right, plus they're really expensive on top of it all and Brooks and Johnson coming off injuries that required surgery. I got us pretty easily picking top 5. I think the division made a lot of positive moves this offseason on top of it all which not many seem to want to admit.

Eh, only way we're picking top 8 is if we trade back from 4ish. Which would actually be a smart thing. Howell means Hurts is yet another failed 2nd rounder though. They will need a few more years of additional picks on days 1 and 2

Lance didn’t opt out in the same way other players did.  Their conference opted to switch to a spring schedule, and his team played their season as the draft process was ongoing from January through April — they actually lost their conference semi-final playoff game just this past Sunday, May 2.  It would have been idiocy for him to play the season.

Your overall point regarding Lance and Wentz is correct, though.  Wentz had about twice the amount of starts and playing time as Lance did.  Having said all that, IMO Lance was the third best QB prospect in this draft behind Lawrence and Wilson.  The NFL teams drafted the first round QBs in the correct order.

I don't think Hurts is the guy so I'd love to see them pick at 4, but that means only 4 wins, right? I think they beat every team in the division at least once so that's 3. They probably beat either the Lions or the Falcons, and who knows with the Jets and Denver. Six wins wouldn't shock me which would put them in the 8-11 range.

Giovanni is getting all the names.

The other issue...Hurts is a 2nd round pick, considered a reach by most, and has never been a pro style passer.  Lots of 2nd round picks never get the keys to the starting position just handed to them like this.

The conclusion jumping is the concept that Hurts might be a starting quality passer, not the concern of throwing in the towel early.

Most prospects like him never even get this opportunity.

Yeah and most 1st round qbs never make it.

I'm not assuming he's going to be good or bad I'm just willing to give him a chance before concluding he's good or bad after 4 games.

Not sure what a pro style passer is anymore, most teams run shotgun wide open spread formations with RPOs just like most college programs do, the transition from college to pro offense isn't as big a leap as it used to be 

We'll see what hurts can muster, if he's good then great, obe less thing to worry about.

If he sucks then back to the drawing board.
