I think there's a real question as to whether Iverson was the best team player in a team sport.  He had great individual talent.  I agree Schmidt should be ahead of him.  Schmidt is 16 all-time in HRs.  Iverson is 25th all-time in NBA scoring.  If you count NBA/ABA, Moses Malone and Julius Erving are 8 & 9 all time.  They should be ahead of him.  Carlton is number 11 all-time in career wins.

Shmidt has a sandwhich named after him. How that doesn't automatically make him #1, I don't know what does.

There is a huge difference between a total shutdown and recognizing the value of social distancing and masks coupled with washing hands.  The problem is we have people who could care less about the health of others that won’t practice social distancing and think masks mean you must be a bleeding heart liberal. I saw more masks and social distancing displayed In the protests than I saw in my visit the last week to East Texas via TN and AR.   Once I hit VA, MD and PA, pretty much everybody had masks on. I kept a distance from everyone and used my mask. I wear N95 masks. My wife uses a cloth mask. We isolated her even more.  I cleaned the hotel rooms thoroughly with a Clorox based cleanser before I we brought anything in.  Open up Disney is going to be like Texas, where the governor just told people to stay home and wear masks when they go out.  Do we really have so little regard for others?

Your bolded sentence indicates 2 types of people causing this issue.  The first type I don't think makes any sense to discuss because it's human nature.  The 2nd type is indeed the primary problem because as it's become clear, these people are purposely taking an anti-science perspective for some reason.  Why, I don't know, but if I had to guess (and since I do watch TV), I'd go with Misguided leadership.

I actually think Erving should be thought of more highly then iverson. Frankly i think he was a better player and as big of an influence on the next generation after him. Jordan has said dr. J was a big influence in how he modeled his game and some other players from the next era. Also won a title and nearly got the sixers two if not for magic‘s ridiculous game 6 in 80

i love Moses. I’d argue most underrated center of all time considering There’s a large portion of nba fans that don’t realize just how great he was cause of guys like wilt, Russell, jabbar, shaq and Hakeem. They were great and people view more highly than him so they forget about Moses

to me Schmidt if you just go position players in mlb history is top 10. There’s an argument he could be top 5 of all time position players.

i thought utley was too high. I absolutely love utley. But i would’ve had him closer to ten. I also think AI was too high. To me clarke, Erving deserved to be top 5. I think Carlton and parent deserved to be higher.

my top ten would’ve been

1. schmidt

2. dr. J

3. Reggie white

4. Clarke

5. iverson

6. Carlton

7. parent

8. Dawkins

9. Utley

10. Moses

Apple sucks

I have had Blackberry, Motorola, Samsung (Android) and Apple phones. I like my Apple phone the most. I replaced my Nook and Kindle with an IPad mini.  I like it as an ereader and for most internet stuff including watching TV and sports remotely when I travel.  Only complaints I have is the spellcheck doesn’t let me add words to its dictionary and it kicks my off of the Blog, it did so on the Eagles site too, when I have been away for a long time.  I can log back on with my thumbprint.

BTW, I reached out to JR and told him what VA_Beach said. He will probably check in after 7/1.  I just think we want to be careful with ads despite the revenue. Other than VA’s work effort, the cost was easily paid for with our contributions and I would rather pay yearly than have objectionable ads support us.

- I just made that up.  I believe in evidence and scientific peer review with this stuff.  Conclusions and firm opinions based on anecdotes are my #3 pet peeve in life.

But direct personal experience still can shed light on things...and since most of you think I'm an idiot anyway, I'll shower you with a personal anecdote.

I actually, moderately, support enforcing wearing masks.  So I am being the devil's advocate here...but there is always truth to both sides of these arguments.  This past weekend, I went out to a restaurant for the first time since this pandemic.  High end restaurant in NJ.  All tables needed to be outside, only staff allowed inside.  Outside, the tables were barely 6' apart...closer together than they would have been in the actual restaurant.  They were on a busy sidewalk.  Passers-by were nearly physically brushing against the seated guests.  Wait staff had on masks.  I watched as each waiter touched their face and mask to adjust it and then touched the dinner plates they were carrying.  I watched as they removed their masks when they walked inside, re-placed them when they went out, and touched the food all over again.  On the noisy sidewalk/street, they often removed their mask to address the customers, touch their face to put it back on, and then refresh the water.

This entire process would have been more sanitary, less contagious, and better optimized to combat COVID with no restrictions, no masks, and business as usual.  While this is an anecdote, it's not a unique experience.  I have since observed similar behavior in many settings of the staged re-opening.

People touch their face quite often with or without masks though. People who wear glasses adjust them quite often with or without masks. How much does mask wearing increase face touching? No clue.

Goat of Broad Street?

Winners:  Utley, Clarke, both were not just great players, but great leaders who willed their teams to victory

Greatness:  Reggie White hands down, greatest DL in NFL history, dominated at any spot and any role along the DL. Unstoppable. Followed by Schmidt, good case for best 3B in ML history. Dr J, but that was mostly before he was in Philly.

Charisma:  Iverson

Iverson was fun, but he lacked MJ's drive and killer instinct, fearless on the court, but not exactly dedicated off the court, for example, he never did the work to perfect his 3 point shot, which would have taken him up a level offensively. Best season was 34.5%, career 31.3%. MJ couldn't hit a 3 point shot to save his life his first four seasons, then put up seasons of 37.6%, 35.3%, 42.7%, 35.4%, when he needed to shoot (playoffs 6th season forward, 32.0%, 38.5%, 38.6% , 38.9%, 36.7%, 40.3% before his shot went south at age 33). And of course, AI's size always limited him defensively.

In the beginning I caught myself subconsciously wanting to touch my face just because I know I couldn't. I never felt my entire face just randomly itch in a grocery store like that before.

So you think surfaces and contact sharing of plates is more dangerous than droplets flying out 6-10 feet in front of each waiter as they talk?

Were they wearing gloves?

Apparently every Karen on Facebook will suffocate and die with a mask.  The stupidity is well dumbfounding.

Regarding the virus we can't just look at cases and say we're doomed.  OK so there are 10,000 new cases per week.  Out of that 10k how many are asymptomatic, how many only have cold like symptoms, how many are in nursing homes, how many require a hospital visit, how many require long hospital stays on ventilators and lastly how many are dying because of Covid, not WITH Covid?

I don't know those answers just saying we need to look at the big picture.  Just saying there are 10,000 new cases per week sure that can sound bad but let's look at the big picture, be smart in our analytics and take the best course of action based on them.  We've become a reactionary society.  Something happens or is reported and BAM we need to take action before thinking and gathering as much as possible.  (Case in point Bubba and the noose).

Houston has 97% of its ICU beds in use.  Abbott, the governor of Texas has all but said he screwed up.  Wolf may have gone a little bit too far the other way but no place in PA ever suffered as bad as what Houston is experiencing.

With a pandemic, there is a need for immediate action and then, as data comes in, adjustments. Again the target is flattening the curve to have the care available to decrease the seriousness of the disease and deaths.

Yup. Even before mask wearing was encouraged, the protocol was coughing etiquette, hand washing and limiting face touching. I never realized how often I rested my chin on my hand or adjusted my glasses.

What are the criteria for this?  Best overall athlete?  Most dominant? Best resume/accomplishments (while in Philly)?  Biggest national celebrity? Most beloved?

By any but the last measure, I think it's ridiculous that Dawkins is so high.

It's also difficult to compare apples & oranges.  Being the greatest DL of all time on a team of 53 is a much smaller footprint in the sports world than being all-NBA for a decade like Iverson.
