It never ceases to amaze me the grief that some players get.   Ward has been a WR now for three years.  Mailata has been an OT for three years.  Tyree Jackson is in his first year as a TE.  There are learning curves and there is improvement.  Ward puts the work in and is said to be a great teammate.  I don’t expect him to be Smith but I also think that if some of his (and Smith’s) work ethic rubs off on Reagor, known for taking plays off at TCU, whereas Ward’s ankle was so f’d up his senior year he had trouble walking at times but he balled through it, that’s good for the Eagles.  Get those fundamentals down, play every play, concentrate on catching the ball, then let the athleticism take over.

We are so willing to give Mailata the benefit of learning but not others. I keep seeing that Mailata is some sort of uber athlete.  He’s big and strong but he is no Lane Johnson or Brandon Brooks.  They are amazing athletes for their size.  Mailata gives up seven sacks.  He ran a 5.12 forty and his splits fit with that.  He benched 22 reps.  His short shuttle was a 4.67.   Yet people want to hand him the LT job.   Meanwhile we have Dillard, who some want run out of time.  In college he played in a sack happy offense.  As a sophomore, he gave up seven sacks but only 2 as a junior and one as a senior with the highest pass blocking score in the country.  He ran. 4.96 forty, no Lane Johnson but who is.  He ran a 4.40 short shuttle.  He put up 24 reps.   Now Mailata was 345, which with his back history, is why he was asked to drop weight. Dillard was 315 at the Combine.  But Mailata has worked hard to learn so he gets accolades but Ward does the same and he gets destroyed for running the routes he was asked to and catching the ball.

Now me,  I want Mailata to succeed.  I want Ward to keep getting better.  I want Davion Taylor to take a step this year.  I want Quez’s work this offseason to pay off.  I want Scott to continue to improve.  I hope all those players make the team a little better.  Hell, I want JJAW to prove me wrong.

I hope Ward gets better. The issue is me and others vehemently disagree on what he’s shown to date. He hasn’t been good.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Yet he catches the ball against NFL DBs with no separation.  Must have great size and amazing strength.

Nope. He has good hands. That’s about it.

Can we move on now?

You’re the one who claimed he had the statistics to prove it, not me

Based on the circumstances, he does.  53 receptions and 6 TD's out of the slot in (one of) the worst offensive years in modern team history ,shows me that he actually did what was asked of him last season.

Are you talking about Reagor?  If so, he hardly hat the stats in college either.

No, GOAT Ward Jr

I respectfully disagree.  He's usually been "quick enough" on his routes to create enough separation, especially underneath, for him to be "open".  Hence the reason he's been our "leading" receiver.   If you want to say he needs to do a better job with YAC or making players "miss" after the catch, then maybe you have a point.  But to say that he's "an average" route runner who isn't "quick"....well, his performance and statistics over the past 2 seasons state otherwise.

Pederson used ward much like an outlet RB.

His depth of catch combined with his YPC are pretty low.

Honestly I can't really say how great of a route runner he is because like I say he rarely ran a route more than 5 yards

He's Larry Centers but at WR.

Majora or minor?

I’m in the don’t pay RBs camp but that’s a pretty good deal for the Browns

That's surprising from the guy that wants to sling shot Sanders out of town after this year.  I think your exact words were, "I'm not paying him that"....and I'm pretty sure we were only talking the 8-10 mil per year range at the time.

So "great deal" for the Browns at 12 mil per year for Chubb (with 2/3 of it guaranteed)  but "no way" for the Eagles & Sanders at 8-10 mil per year?

Nothing against Ward but I'm hoping the WR depth chart is Smith, Reagor, Watkins, Fulgham then Ward.

He's a nice 3rd, 4th, 5th option but if he's one of the team leaders in yards or receptions then we probably arent going to be very good.

I am absolutely fine with him as the fourth or even 5th WR.  I would love for Reagor to make a huge leap. I hope Watkins takes a leap.  Love his speed and the effort he was putting in this offseason to improve his route running.  Not sure I trust Watkins hands.  It still is a concern for me that after Smith, and possibly Boston Scott, that Ward has the second best set of hands of the WR group (I mentioned Scott because  I really think that with Nick’s use of motion, we are going to see him slide out in the slot a bunch).

It was Aaron Jones who signed for 4 year and $48M, so try again. I also said play him this year and next and let him walk if he wants $12M per. Memory is pretty fuzzy on this one as you got everything wrong.

This is EXACTLY whats wrong with America.. sheesh

Off the top of my head I can think of about 10 other things more wrong with America.

Dallas Cowboys being at the top of that list...

Houston bias lol

Ward has been adequate depth. Thats about it. Good hands but nothing else remarkable and shouldnt be terribly difficult to upgrade

Practice ended at some point and no bothered to tweet it

I’m surprised Goedert could even talk after practice since he’s so woefully out of shape.

We both agree, good hands.  We certainly can move on.

Huh?

Yup always has been fast, I think if he can get better as a pass blocker he has just as good a shot as any RB to make the roster, plus his ability as a returner can't hurt.

Yet they have Gainwell back muffing punts but not Huntley.  It’s very little data but the couple of returns he fielded last year doesn’t have me convinced he has skill as a returner.  I don’t recall him as a returner at New Mexico State.

Really good Kick returner in college, which isnt really a thing anymore ☹️

But yeah I don't think he did PR in college, but I think he could do it.

Not sure why they haven't put Reagor there???

It wasn’t “$8-$10M” like you were trying to claim. It was when Aaron Jones signed for $12M apy. I said I wouldn’t give Sanders that. I also didn’t say "spring him off this year” I said let him play out his contract and let him walk if he wants a deal like that.

Ertz with YAC. Maybe he has turned that corner.
