It looks like Kendricks might sign with the 49ers. He was with them in the offseason but got released due to a turf toe injury.

I get that some people don't like Hurts' style of playing QB... and I get that some people have already made up there minds about him based on "a feel" and their "football sense"...  and it may well turn out to be the case...

But to say "the problem has always been consistency with him" strikes me as absurd... he's started EIGHT games in the NFL...  that's not much of an "always"...  nearly all young QBs would be inconsistent over that time frame...

I thought that Hurts, and the offense in general, played what I would call "a game to build on" yesterday...  that's what we should be looking for this year...  building on something...  because if we don't, we'll be in QB hell for a while yet to come...  that'll be fun...

His problem isn't consistency.  It's what he consistently cannot do.  Any offense with him under center has fixed limitations in what it can do.

Carson Wentz has problems with consistency.  Mike Vick had problems with consistency.

Hurts has things that he'll never be able to do.  If we want to settle for a guy that lofts ducks downfield, does not look past read 1, and specializes in bubble screens and QB keepers...that may not be QB hell, but it sure is purgatory.

Last I saw he was staying healthy

Yeah, this is a nice post and all, but mostly not particularly about the point I was making... but I am glad you agree that it might be a bit early to be determining consistency...

This is really all I have to say about Hurts...I think it is already pretty clear by now.  A couple points about Hurts and the QB position in general.  I think each is pretty reasonable and simple.

- A QB can compensate for arm strength deficiencies by stepping up in the pocket and stepping into their throws...or by running to their dominant side and throwing with momentum.

- Any QB who signs an NFL contract is capable of stepping into a throw and firing a 10 yard laser.

- Jalen Hurts has an average, at best, arm.  Frankly, that may be generous.

- Jalen Hurts is not a pocket QB.  He's not the type of passer who is going to step into throws in the pocket.  Not his game.  Not going to be.  He prefers to roll out and makes a lot of off balance throws.

- Jalen Hurts does not have the arm to make off balance throws.

- A Hurts led offense can move the ball effectively if the opposing defense either cannot stop or selectively permits an underneath passing game.  His threat to run and short range accuracy are effective in this scenario.  If that underneath pass attack is taken away, things fall apart.

If that's an offense you are OK with, then I can see why you would want Hurts.  If it's not...he's not growing past this, so don't fall in love.

Maybe if it was still 2016....

Meh. Hurts works as a bridge QB, he's not the future or the franchise QB, but until we can get one, he's fine.

Anyone know the over/under for stabbings at the Raiders/Chargers game tonight?

Depends if Raiders get behind early.

Sadly, it's possible.  I doubt Kendricks could come in and be that much better.  Not sure how much he has left.  Hasn't played much 2 of the last 3 years.

Yesterday wasn't too far off from the ideal scenario this season.

Hurts continues to develop and eventually demonstrates he's The Guy.  Sirianni hones the offensive scheme and moves far down the game management learning curve.  Smith, Reagor, Watkins, Gainwell, Mailata, Dickerson all show to be the future of the offense.

...and the defense continues to suffer from a lack of talent, so we end up losing every game 40 - 34.

Our first rounder is very early and we have clarity of what to spend it on.

Did Steve Young just roll out of bed?  Comb your f'ing hair dude.

Omfg Booger is just unlistenable

and steve young needs to stop dying his hair

Lightning delay at a dome stadium is the funniest crap ever man

I really think that this year they don't care about winning.  This season is all about evaluating.

I feel Gannon could help the defense if he simplified things, at least when playing a great offense.

Steve Young is worse.  He just rambles on about nothing all the time.

Pretty much ESPN, in general, is unlistenable.  That includes 'Boomer' as well, which is whom I thought you were talking about first.

I might be alone on this but I’m thinking Fletcher Cox finally hit the brick wall. He’s been missing all season outside of being Johnny on the spot in the Dallas game fumble.

Id look to try and move him at deadline.

The follow up question becomes: Are you content with passing on drafting QB (because no worthy QB’s seem to be available in 2022), stocking up on talent, NOT TRADING UP, and looking to solve the QB problem (assuming there is one) in 2023?

So I was curious about Smith's TD that was called back for him stepping out of bounds. I've seen a few spots where it says it should have been a penalty on the defender, or the catch allowed to stand. I had to go to the NFL rule book:

Ineligible Receivers. All offensive players other than those identified in Article 5 above are ineligible to catch a legal or illegal forward pass thrown from behind the line of scrimmage, including:

(d) An eligible receiver who has been out of bounds prior to or during a pass, even if he has reestablished himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands.

Exception: If an eligible receiver is forced out of bounds by a foul by a defender, including illegal contact, defensive holding, or defensive pass interference, he will become eligible to legally touch the pass (without prior touching by another eligible receiver or defender) as soon as he re-establishes himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands. See Article 8, Note 3.

So based on the rule book as I see it, we needed the refs to basically call a penalty on the defender for Smith to be "allowed" to re-establish himself. If there's no penalty on the defender, then no matter what, Smith can't be the first player to touch the ball. Am I interpreting that correctly?

You are but you can clearly see the defender push Smith with his forearm and that takes him out of bounds. Much more than a handcheck. The line judge, who dropped his hat to signal the out of bounds play, was screened by Smith from seeing the defenders forearm push but the back should have seen that but there may have been play in the center of the field or the other side that drew his attention. All 22 will tell.

Good Lord Wilson looked worse.  He over pursues after being late to react to the run.  It's not like Helaire had to cut back hard to make anyone at the second level miss.  In fact, it looks to me that Milton Williams ended up making the tackle.

Singleton is not a great LB but he is the best the Eagles have, which is sad to say. But Wilson, ugh. I saw one play where the big OL is leading the RB.  Wilson literally turned and intentionally engaged the OL by extending his arms rather than try to to maneuver from a full on block and engage the runner.  He seems to be around the ball at the end of the play. Twice I saw Singleton fly in and make the tackle while Wilson should have already made the tackle.

Pretty much. Unless we trade for Watson/Wilson, might as well roll with Hurts/Minshew into 2022 and let the young players, including our 3 2022 first rounders, develop.

Then beg, borrow, or steal a QB in 2023.
