Cool story Bro.

When you have the Wrong guy as Captain of the ship, the rest doesn't really matter much.  Good luck. You need to extricate the guy who's ripping you off.

Are you referencing the owner who won a Super Bowl or the GM who won a Super Bowl?

Yup.  Run the ball behind four backups.  Sanders was 7/13.

And Sirianni's malpractice put up 461 yards of offense.  More than Cleveland and LAC did against this defense.

I'm not sold on Hurts.  But running for the sake of running would be malpractice.

We lost to the Chiefs because of poor situational football. Taking FG's in the red zone against them is just foolish. We aren't good enough to overcome even a modest amount of penalties, never mind a record setting amount. The game plan was sound, just execution was lacking.

It was actually very similar to 52. We traded scores with the Pats, and it took a turnover to swing the game. But we didn't settle for FGs in the RZ in that game either.

I really wouls to see hurts show to consistently get better each game against better teams on the schedule over the next 3. To me this current 6 game stretch is pretty vital to making a determination on him. They probably won’t win the next 3 games (panthers, bucs and raiders) but i want to see him consistently improving each week and building. He went from meh against the niners (I’d actually say not very good for long stretches,  a Dallas team (and we can’t deny that at this point they were 3-1 and have beaten some good teams in this league and a fg away from 4-0) where he was awful to the chiefs where he looked much better (outside of red zone issues). Still not perfect but much better than the previous two weeks (granted I’d argue the worst defense of the 3 games). He needs to build on it and get better each week

Seems like a duh thing but the reason why I bring it up this way is because the back end of that schedule I expect the Eagles to put up points against the Jets, Washington twice (actually playing more competent QBs this year and their defense has crashed back down to earth), giants twice. Those teams arent very good and so if we don’t then there’s bigger issues. If he’s able to show he’s improving against better competition each week and he’s making strides and gives you more hope then if he just shines against bad opponents.

I’d put it into lurie’a past fools gold games just like i did with wentz at the end of 2019 thay some of what he was doing was fools gold against bad competition. I say this because you expect to put a point in those bad teams. However in order to get where you wanna go and be eventually Super Bowl type team, you have to see consistency against bad team and against better competition. Because if you are all over the place against better competition and only consistent against bad team that isn’t good enough to get where we eventually need to be.

Theme of the talking heads this week:

"I know Dak and Mahomes are great QBs, and they have a ton of weapons, and our linebackers and secondary aren't very good, BUT....we shouldn't be letting them score 40 points on us."

Which makes no sense. We got under the cap. If sweat was the extension target and barnett will obviously walk get that damn money off the books now

In this case, it does not really matter.  The cap space that was freed up this year will just be rolled over to cover what was moved to 2022.  It had a zero cap impact.

All fair.

I would argue that no one saw the success at the end of 2019 as an indication of greatness.  We struggled to beat bad teams.  However, if we roll on the Jets, Giants, and WFT at the end of the season, you can argue that it's not just due to the quality of the opponent.

Totally agree. I argued ad nauseum with my buddy who's a Falcons fan, that they should have taken either Slater or Sewell. He was too enamored with Pitts though.

For all the faults Lurie has, I do appreciate that he clearly understands the importance of both o and d lines. Both can mask other roster stenches if built well.

Yup. I think we had the discussion when you look at first round tight ends and the history it’s really not provided great value return unless it’s been more late 1st with a first. I’d still argue against going TE top 20 picks.

I thought the bengals made a mistake not taking Sewell either. They badly needed oline and they had good WRs in Higgins and Boyd to not need chase. Chase is awesome and as much as i love chase oline and protecting burrow would’ve been my top priority. Their oline is much better then they were last year. I don’t know who their oline coach is but he’s doing a tremendous job

your last point is the one reason why i think Wilson would consider the eagles. besided the backstory of his wife not wanting to be in Seattle anymore, the reason Wilson was so upset with the Seahawks was because he didn’t feel like they were building his oline to protect him. I can’t say that about the Eagles because they will invest in the oline and spend the money on the oline.

I don't think Schwartz gets enough credit to holding NE to 12 in the first half.

So we all agree our LB's still stink.  Next how do we fix before start of next year?  Who would you target in the draft and who would you go after in FA?

I know a good amount on here don't like Penn State but I think Brandon Smith is going to be really good player in the NFL

With what?  A big contract offer the Eagles can't afford, or draft capital that needs to be used to build a defense?

How did GB get Rodgers?  HOU get Watson?  SEA get Wilson?  LAC get Herbert?  BUF get Josh Allen?  They drafted them and developed them.  That is the path.

How did we get Hurts? How did Chicago get Trubisky? How did Miami get Tua? How did Arizona get Rosen? Dwayne Haskins, Lock, Lynch, Winston, Mariota, Bortles, Manziel, Gabbert, Ponder, Locker...

Let's not pretend the draft is certain and highly dependent on the coaching and scheme.

But not enough score to win.  Idc about yards but winning. If you pass, pass, pass, pass you won't win.

I think the point is more they need to see him each week improve over this stretch against good teams and show consistency then hes up and down during this stretch then finds consistency later in the year against that competition.

if you’re trying to make a determination on your quarterback for next year and going forward it’s going to be much tougher if hurts is up and down in this stretch of competition (it’s actually super hard when you look at records of the teams they are facing now and later in the year) then finds consistency late in the year. It’s kind of the chicken or the egg come first analogy. Did he drastically Improve, get better and more consistent cause he was just really hitting his stride and made improvements or because the level of competition dropped which helped him become more consistent? It’s a question I’m not sure you could definitely answer nor would i want to be the one trying to solve it

JJAW and Chachere have been really great on ST. I know you obviously hope a 2nd round pick turns into more than a ST ace....but nothing to be done about that now. It's nice to see our ST unit seems to be well coached and has some talent (Siposs team MVP obviously, and Elliot has been good, especially on that botched snap this week).

Chachere has been great.  I never remember his name so I just refer to him as #21.  Is JJAW the new Dameane Douglas?

I mean they drafted Hurts after the end of the 2019 season.  I think part of that was due to injury but clearly there were some other concerns.  My concern with Hurts is that he will put up numbers especially if the defense continues to play poorly.  We can't let just his stats interfere with an evaluation on his improvement and potential.  The question is whether Sirianni will be able to give an honest assessment of Hurts' performance.  He has defended Hurts publicly even after his poor performance in Dallas.  He didn't significantly adjust what there game plan was in reaction to the performance in Dallas either.

I think the bigger part of the equation may be whether Roseman and Lurie can fairly evaluate QB prospects.  Roseman and Lurie always scout QBs.  I think they scouted first round QBs in 2018 and 2019 even with Wentz on the team.  I think they will look closely at any prospect that comes out and shows potential.  My bigger concern is all of this is that they fall in love, wrongly, with some prospect that really isn't it.  The worst case scenario is they spend a lot of draft capital to get a QB and he is outplayed by Hurts on what is still a deficient roster with limited cap space.

So I've been sucked in to the Urban Myer rabbit hole.  What is happening here?  Does the guy in the reflection have pants on?  Who and why is he shooing someone away?  Is he on a boat?

Call me crazy, but watching the Raiders last night, Gannon's defense might be perfect against them. I don't think they can sustain 12-14 play drives, at least not consistently. They seem to be a big play team. I think we have a good shot against them. Carolina, if CMC doesn't play, no reason why we can't go toe to toe with them either. Tampa is almost assuredly a loss, and likely a bad one.
