Pulling the old Adam caplan move

"A personnel guy around the National Football League pulled me aside on a Zoom call yesterday. Said whatever kept Lane out of Sunday's game was big. Can't say how big right now -- anyone who talks to anybody in the National Football League knows you gotta vet this stuff, fans just can't get their heads around that -- but maybe it won't be big. Still developing."

Taco Bell is my laxative of choice, when ever I am feeling constipated, I make a trip to Taco Bell.  it never fails to keep me regular.

Fast forward

"Yea, so I actually knew about what was going on Sunday at noon. Talked to one of my sources who told me everything about the situation, he just asked me not to report on it. It was a big bleeping deal at the time so uh yea, it is what it is. You know, I'm not a blogger so I didn't want to put anything out there, I'm a reporter. I used to be a blogger in fact I was one of the first bloggers on the internet before it really took off. But anyways, Johnsons back now."

Slays cap hit is only $6M

Guess the number I read was from before his restructure or his ave, which is 4th at 17 mil with Ramsey at 4th at 20mil

Having said that do you think Slay is playing like the 4th highest paid CB in the league?

I mean if I'm paying top money for a CB Id hope I'd get more than 1 Int in 19 games no?

People will say well can't judge him by Ints alone, true, how about over 100 pass rating last year when targeted and I er 70% completion.

Not sure what the numbers are this year I don't have PFF and can't find those numbers anywhere else, I'd guess he's somewhere in the middle this year as Gannon's scheme uses him better than Schwartz did, still Id guess he's not top 5 in any metric which one would hope for making top 5 money.

Well keep checking, it'll be like Christmas morning when it happens.

I'd say no he's not playing like the 4th highest paid CB but part of that is they signed him to be something he's currently not just playing zone coverages all the time.

Yup, I never liked the trade, I thought slay was in decline and making way too much, and when one Howie continues to fail at drafting any CB or defensive help one is forced to over pay to fill that spot which is where slay is at

Big Johnson problem, eh?  I think they make medicine for that.

Seriously, there's bigger things that football, hope all is well with him and his family.

He's been ok, would you say he's playing up to his contract as the highest paid Corner in the league???

He's not revis island out there, he's had some good games since being an eagle and some really bad ones, in 19 games with the eagles he has 1 Int, one would expect more from the highest paid player at his position no?

Do I think he’s playing up to his contract? Not really, but I’m not going to continue crushing him because we’re now a zone-based team and opposing offenses haven’t tested him much.

Just showing him where to get the snap when it is his turn under center.

Im not crushing him either, asking whose more at fault for the 4th highest CB in the league playing no where near That, Howie, or slay.

I'd say Howie, Detroit were happy to trade slay because they saw him as an overpaid player in decline, they were right,

How sad is it when Detroit of all teams outsmart Howie?

We were coming off another playoff trip in 2019, and CB was a massive weakness. Yes we overpaid, that's what happens when you can't draft well. Detroit didn't outsmart anybody. It was a good trade for both teams, honestly.

I think people have to get away from the "he is the X highest paid player at his position. Is he playing like the X best player?”

That’s just not how it works. It’s always about the timing of a deal. Contracts go up.

I don’t think this is an accurate portrayal of how things went down in Detroit.

Detroit traded our 3rd to Indy anyway. Indy selected Julian Blackmon with the 85th pick, and Detroit took Cephus at 166.
