Hurts is a backup.

He's the starting QB.  You must be thinking of the guy riding the bench 3rd on the depth chart in Chicago.

People have been drooling about this defensive line all summer. Hargrave, Cox, Sweat, Barnett. Slay as a top corner. Nelson and Maddox should be at least competent. He has enough personnel to not have his defense look completely lifeless. Dallas smashed them right in the mouth for 4 quarters. Kansas City didn't punt. His scheme is all over the place. His defensive line doesn't look like they know how they want to play.

It's not great personnel, but it should be a lifeless defense. It's been completely atrocious.

And if Sweat is a role player, and I don't necessarily disagree, then I'm not sure he is worth that contract he just signed.

I have to admit some surprise at how apoplectic folks in here were that the Eagles lost to DAL 41-21.  It's been the theme over the past few seasons, especially in DAL:

2019 -- 37-10

2020 -- 37-17

2018 -- got swept by DAL

Disappointing loss, yes -- but the amount of whining in here afterward was way over the top.

Just to point out he’s completing 63% of his passes, 3tds, 1 rushing td, 420 yards and 1 int when down 9 or more which the eagles in 3 consecutive games were training by 14 points or more at some point in the 4th quarter. So by numbers 43% of his passing tds, 36% of his passing yards have come in 9+ situation.

* forgot gainwell had a rushing td not a passing. The fact we’ve scored 5 of our 9 tds on the year when down 10 or more points is not actually good. That’s more than 50% of our tds on the season came when down double digits

Yeah we have a really bad defense that is incapable of putting up any resistance to a team with a good passing game.

You’re right it’s not the offense who scored 11 points vs. the niners and zero for the first 2.5 quarters when they got down 20 in the Dallas game and the defense scored more points through that point in the game. So did the Dallas defense as hurt threw a pick 6. it’s only the defense? Offense wasn’t nearly the problem in the chiefs game but pretending hurts and the offense was good the previous two games or not have their own issues is laughable.

I agree with the youtuber that Smith needs more targets. I think I counted only 2 times that Smith messed up. He was always open

Youtuber sounded annoyed with Hurts because he kept missing Smith lol

We think about him all the time.

32 targets for Smith over 4 games seems reasonable, especially for a rookie WR.

Goedert needs more targets; he's 5th on the team with only 16.

Yeah our Super Bowl MVP. Eagles lose by 20 if 2021 Hurts is the QB that game.

It’s year one of a new system. I’m not worried about the team right now. We played against 3 of the better teams in the NFL and we were competitive. The only thing that concerns me is Hurts, but there’s still a lot more time in the season to come to a conclusion.

That’s 4 years ago. We aren’t Cowboy fans, we don’t live in the past.

Not a huge Hurts guy but after last week, he's not top of my list of concerns. The entire defense is more concerning than anyone on offense. I don't think there's one single building block on D. Maybe Hargrave, and a lesser maybe on Sweat.

You could understand the defense for getting gassed against Dallas, because they got a defensive TD + had an offense that couldn't get a 1st down. That loss was on the offense.

Against KC, we just had an atrocious gameplan.

Has there been any new Lane Johnson news?

To be fair, Sirianna had a meltdown of play calling at the 1 yard line first and goal before half and they came away with no points.  Also had a blocked field goal and a deep ball TD to Reagor called back because his heel stepped out of bounds.

The Dallas game was just bad all around.  Everyone, Hurts included.

The defense has only played well in the first two games.  Once Graham left the game against the 49ers they started to fall apart.  They seem to do alright against average/below average QBs like Matt Ryan and Jimmy G but not against elite QBs like Dak and Mahomes.  That's part of the reason I think the Eagles have a chance against the Panthers.  Darnold is much closer to a Matt Ryan or Jimmy G than a Dak and Mahomes.

I'd imagine so.  He was what, a sophomore in college at the time?

I've really disliked the defense's approach every week so far. They held Atlanta to two field goals after having 1st and goal, but they were getting smashed. Atlanta couldn't stop committing penalties. They beat themselves offensively more than we beat them.

San Fran was our best performance on D, but those two long 90+ yard drivers were gross.

Last two games speak for themselves.

They need a new approach, completely.

It's always amusing to listen to fans during rebuilds, off-season, blow it up, trade everyone, once the season starts, why do we suck?

Gannon can't perform miracles, he stopped below average offenses, got torched by top offenses, about what you'd expect given the personnel.

Hurts is a work in progress, it takes time for young QBs to slow the game down and understand what they're seeing, especially coming out of today's college game.

We have three inexperienced WRs who are just figuring out things like route running (for Smith, dealing with contact on a regular basis) and trying to develop chemistry with their QB.

The OL is in shambles, but the depth seems to be holding up, which means we're developing some young OL.

This season is about progress, not production.

Unforced errors and penalties are a coaching issue.  We have seen too many of those at this point in the season.  I agree that progress is part of what we should look for but it is tied to performance.

Not if Koy Detmer is the QB though

I thought the defense played better than the score showed against Dallas but still it wasn't good.  He called one blitz and got a sack on Dak and then never called another blitz.  The Chiefs just destroyed the team.  They looked just pathetic against the run.  There was no spark.  There was no creativity to generate pressure.  No blitzing, just a bunch of nothing.

I don't think there will be any news until the team sends out their practice reports.

Small sample size is still skewing things, but so far the Eagles are 17th in points scored, and 24th in points allowed.

Even the offensive numbers are skewed. They scored 3 touchdowns when down 19+ points the last 2 weeks. 2 were in complete garbage time. Add on the defense has a touchdown against Dallas.

He's a baller and I think he could be clutch. We've not been able to truly see yet though unfortunately.

Just look at how great he is in the 4th quarter.

This guy is getting too big it's causing him to do this point at the camera intro this season for all of his videos.

Idk. His arm looked weak (again) and he seemed to make bad decisions. It doesn’t really matter if he completes 80% of passes if they’re all 0-5 yards.

I’ve been pro Hurts all off-season cause I thought he deserved a shot. He’s still getting a shot, but I’m slowly getting off the wagon.

Jeff McLane knows but wont tell. But he added he either will be back for Sunday, or he wont.
