I give it a 1% chance it has to do with something else, only because every time Sirianni talks about it he comes off as pretty uncaring. I know it’s very unlikely but if it was family related you think the head coach would be more caring or say something in his PC other than "no update, it’s a personal matter.”

That's the best way to deliver it...adding any emotion or such does nothing but fuel the speculative fire.  You just look at people blankly and basically tell them it's none of their business.

I give it a 2% chance Fletcher Cox slept with his wife

So he shows up for the game.  And then decides, hey....I'm not feeling it anymore.  I'm gonna home now.  All Forrest Gump-like?  Good call Dirty Mike.

I mean it could be mental

Gilmore would look good in Tampa , all 3 starters out

If it was anything other than a personal issue it would have to be disclosed by the team.  It is a personal issue.

Can we stop with the "rookie" nonsense?  He's not a rookie.  A rookie has had one, very limited offseason to get ready for his first NFL season, having spent half of the offseason prepping for the draft.

He's a second year player.  Meaning he's had a full offseason after his rookie year to work on his game and prepare for the NFL season. He is a guy with limited starts.  He is also in his first season in a new system as well, but he is not a rookie.  Last season he was a rookie.  But those 4 games played at the end of his rookie season are a huge leg up on all of the true rookies, because he got to see NFL defenses up close, see the speed of the game, feel the hits.  And he had real film of himself out there in real NFL games to study to work to improve upon.  A rookie does not have that.  He's a young QB, with limited experience, but very much not a rookie.

He'll be a rookie until he retires for some

Maybe Lane's contemplating retirement.

Bad team, beat up body, gotta be hard to go out there and put it all on the line.

Teams don't give players leave because they are contemplating retiring.

No Gilmore here.  This team isn't ready to compete, he's 31and will be wasted while this team struggles.

Can he play LB?

Damn. He must be pretty banged up or maybe just finally had it with Bill. Should be interesting to see where he lands.

Hell, by this line of reasoning why bring in anybody, linebackers included? We stink no need to try and get better. No more complaining guys, we are supposed to stink and not bring in any talent.

He wouldn’t rework his contract so pats could add cap space , so they let him go

The other possibility with Lane Johnson is that he got popped for PED again and that could be a death nail to his career.  If that is the case, it could be kept under wraps because the Eagles/NFLPA legal are all trying to navigate the terms and ramifications.  That would explain the hint of distain that NS showed.

Wasn't there a clause in his contract that all his guaranteed money is void if he gets popped again?

He's not going to be cheap.  They can't afford him.  They need to focus on getting younger and not giving out contracts to aging players.  I wasn't saying don't try to get better.

You can’t field 53 25 year olds and expect to be good , won’t happen , you need quality veterans through out the roster , they will teach the young guys as much as the coaches will .

I think the Bucs make a lot of sense with how banged up their corners are. I could also see the chiefs, Packers (Alexander banged up with a shoulder), seattle, Baltimore and Arizona making a run at him.

Yes they do.

They just dont call it "contemplating retirement".  mental exhaustion, Fatigue,

etc

I love that this board thinks it's so outrageous that an "old" 31 year old playing for a bad team, worth hundreds of millions of dollars might be  thinking of retirement

I'm not dying on this hill, it could be a sick cousin who's his best friend. but to think it's impossible on here is hysterical.

I don't have an opinion about whether Lane may or may not retire. I am just saying the rules make the teams disclose what the issue is. I think if it was something other than a personal matter they would have to disclose it.  Read the rules about reporting: https://operations.nfl.com/media/2683/2017-nfl-injury-report-policy.pdf

The supplemental entry "Not Injury Related” applies to situations in which a player is withheld from his normal repetitions for reasons other than injury. Examples include: resting veteran players, team discipline, jury duty, illness in family, personal matter, etc. In these cases, the club must explain specifically – on its own participation release issued to the media – why the player missed or was limited in practice. Use of this category is prohibited if the player in question has an injury that is otherwise reportable under the policy. An injured player cannot be listed as a "resting veteran.”

Gilmore wants to win and get paid.

Two things the Eagles have ZERO chance of providing

I’m not basing my thoughts on Gilmore , more about in general , you want veteran leadership through out the roster , every year , not just when you think you are finally a contender

PEDs is a 2 season ban for him.  Not good.

And part of the collective bargaining agreement.  It would be reported.

Yeah I'd say it's clearly not PEDs, but on the off chance it is, his career would be over

He's getting old and coming off a significant injury, plus too much money. He  won't make the Eagles a contender because there are way too many other holes.

Based off listening to mclane’s interview on 975 yesterday he thinks there’s slightly a better than 50-50 chance lane returns this weekend
