He's getting old and coming off a significant injury, plus too much money. He  won't make the Eagles a contender because there are way too many other holes.

The 3 teams that make the most sense are the Bucs (depleted secondary and going all in for Brady), Packers (Alexander dealing with a shoulder injury and there was talks he could be done for the year) and KC cause their pass defense is awful. Carolina also in play as they lost horn and apparently lives there in the offseason. I think Baltimore also makes sense with their injuries to the secondary.

No, it was just better than it was against KC.

Is that saying anything at all? KC scored a TD on every drive except one.

We're rebuilding. We'll be shedding a half dozen veterans over the next two seasons as we groom replacements. We're not adding expensive veterans.

This year is about building an offense, we've added four young WRs, two young TEs (Stoll and Jackson) to go with Goedert, a bunch of young OL, and RBs (though they are always fungible). It'll take the full season for them to jell, not just Hurts' development, but getting him on the same page with his WRs and Gainwell, and working in Stoll and Jackson when he returns. JJAW wasn't worth a late 2nd rd pick, but he's becoming a top blocking WR (key to screens and outside runs) and ST guy.

Next two drafts will be primarily about defense, we don't need a 1st rd LB, we do need a few guys picked between the 2nd and 4th rds who are better players/athletes than the dreck we're fielding. We need better safeties and at least one stud on the DL.

That top blocking WR committed an awful blatant penalty while blocking last game to bring back a TD.  Also you wonder how long until teams notice that when he comes into the game it is going to be a run or a screen to his side because he sure as hell isn't coming in to run a route and have a pass thrown to him.

I really hope we see a fake bubble screen when JJAW is in, with a big pump fake to Quez, and then try for a quick bomb downfield to Reagor or Smith. Teams have started to key that JJAW on the field = bubble screen. Will be a nice tendency breaker when/if it happens.

The key will be execution, great play design based on tendency breakers, but I have my doubts our QB will allow that type of play time to develop without moving out of the pocket and then being late on the throw.

Gilmore gotta be going to KC or TB. Seems exactly like a move Andy would make.

The performance against KC is the worst defense I have seen this team play since getting blown out on Thanksgiving against Detroit.  The answer is no and Gannon's approach to KC was disappointing.  He's playing scared.  He needs to be aggressive especially when the team is behind.  He's coaching every game like the team has a 2 score lead.

I would think TB would be a favorite because of the Brady connection to Gilmore.  Staying in the AFC may appeal to him because he would get to face the Patriots again potentially.  I think the Ravens could also be a choice because they lost Peters.

Yep.  It has to have something to do with family.  No other explanation.

Lots of speculation here, but it could be bigger than just a family issue.

Maybe Lane doesn't want to play anymore?  Maybe he's had a few too many concussions and has just had enough?

Or Maybe Lane is pissed about the playcalling and doesn't want to play for Siri anymore?

I also don't think it's COVID / injury / PED.  We would know that by now.

Get payed millions of dollars vs just quit because you don't like the play calling.

not that tough of a decision

Gilmore should go to the Titans or Chargers. They can win their respective divisions, have clear CB holes and have the money to pay him.

Great idea. Who's the playmaker in the back seven?

End of the season this defense will probably end up where last year's defense was, with even less talent (Graham out, Cox declining). Graham was a huge loss for a thin group.

Gannon will get a little more aggressive, but realistically, without a cover 1 safety, without a blitzing LB who can get home, without CBs you trust man to man against top WRs or a LB who can stay with a receiving TE, your options are kinda limited.

This fit also makes a ton of sense.

Especially with jaire Alexander having a shoulder issue.

Wasn't there a clause in his contract that all his guaranteed money is void if he gets popped again?

Yes, but, he just does not get his money.  I don't think it gives the Eagles any salary cap relief.

Who assembled a defense with that many holes ??  Oh that's right, your boy Howie.

So he's been released or no?

The talent is limited but putting a defensive scheme out there that is decipherable and open to attack when you are losing does nothing to help the team win.  The team doesn't need to cover-0 blitz to change things up in terms of pressure.  They can run zone blitzes that put pressure on offenses from unexpected places and drop just as marginal players back into coverage.  They can play the run first at LB when they are getting gashed and move closer to the line.  They ran a very effective zone blitz against Dallas that led to a sack.  That was one of 2 blitzes during the game.  They gave up 42 points and might as well have rolled over to do it.  The DE's were consistently getting too far upfield and should have mush rushed to allow pressure up the middle to impact Mahomes.  They could run more stunts and 5 man looks that make it harder for the o-line to call protections.  They were able to handle Cox in part because they could chip him every time without worry about pressure from another defender.  You tell me a time when a defensive coordinator for the Eagles did less to impact the game?

I don't have an opinion about whether Lane may or may not retire. I am just saying the rules make the teams disclose what the issue is. I think if it was something other than a personal matter they would have to disclose it.  Read the rules about reporting: https://operations.nfl.com/media/2683/2017-nfl-injury-report-policy.pdf

The supplemental entry "Not Injury Related” applies to situations in which a player is withheld from his normal repetitions for reasons other than injury. Examples include: resting veteran players, team discipline, jury duty, illness in family, personal matter, etc. In these cases, the club must explain specifically – on its own participation release issued to the media – why the player missed or was limited in practice. Use of this category is prohibited if the player in question has an injury that is otherwise reportable under the policy. An injured player cannot be listed as a "resting veteran.”

I think Lane had Jury Duty

It was a ticky tack call but inexcusable from a marginal contributor.
