Neither here nor there, but rewatching the game I don’t think Hurts did anything wrong on the Goedert TD that was called back by the illegal man downfield. Goedert wasn’t open until late in the play.

A play later Hurts had the bad miss to Ward. I still have no earthly idea how anyone could call that a drop.

I should have said I’m rewatching the offense. Someone would have to give me $100 to watch that crappy defense again.

I don’t like swapping Mailata to RT. Now we’re worse at 2 positions instead of 1.

How so?  Mailata was pretty darn good at RT and Dillard has been stellar at LT when given playing time.  Once again the Dillard hate is irrational.

I wouldn't say that was Dillard hate though? Mailata is better than Dillard at LT and Lane is better than Mailata at RT. I think the Eagles have an issue long term now because dillard has been decent the last couple of weeks (bar the penalties) and in the medium term they need a new RT. But Mailata should be their LT.

In regards to the Dolphins and their first round pick, here’s an article that should give us some hope that pick becomes very high.

Kyle Crabbs is a knowledgable football guy, happens to be a big Dolphins fan. He doesn’t think they really have a chance to rebound. Seems like it’s a very strong chance that pick lands in top 10, likely where we’ll be picking also.

I think people need to back away from the ledge a bit when it comes to where Mailata plays.

Lane is out and we don't really know when he's coming back (hopefully soon). Having Mailata play a game at RT isn't going to cripple his growth as a player. Having said that, he isn't going to be around forever. I don't think it's nearly as big a deal to see how the line looks with Dillard at LT and Mailata at RT.

Now, every assumption is that we're going to severely hinder our LT play, but what if that isn't the case? I'm not saying Dillard is as good as Mailata, but what if he proves to be a good LT? Then you have two young bookends moving forward with young depth behind them. Obviously if Dillard isn't cutting it they put Mailata back at LT.

Or we can force Mailata back into LT, let Dillard sit on the bench, draft a RT and hope he pans out.

So many on this board are quick to play guys and let them develop. "Let the young guys play so we can see what we have!" "Trade guys at the deadline so we can see what the kids are!" "Let's give Hurts a chance to develop!"

Not Dillard though, we should apparently sit him on the bench until his contract is up and then fire him into the sun.

Or conversely, Dillard proves to be a good LT, Mailata is Lane 2.0 and Johnson (who's unlikely to ever play a full season again at this rate) is dealt.

This age old thinking that only a LT is important needs to stop. If anything, would you not want your better tackle on the right side when your QB is always running that way?

Well traditionally the defenses best rusher was on the right end over the LT. That isn't the case anymore they move them to both sides or the LE is now the best rusher.

That's exactly my point. Thanks.

Doesn't whichever side is the blindside of the QB play into this, as well?   Essentially, you want your best blocker on the side that protects the QB from an unseen/unprotected hit.

where the hell is this crap coming from?

Sanders is a home-run hitter. That's his value. He's also going to miss reads. That becomes a much bigger deal on 3rd down and in the red zone.

Sanders, Gainwell, physical back and our RB room is complete.

I commented on that after the game.  Sanders just isn’t seeing the holes.  The blocking doesn’t look like the OL is not designed to create those holes.  It is almost like he isn’t on the same page.  Now I do recall a play where Gainwell was running towards where the hole wasn’t and cut back for where the hole was.  I don’t think the line calls were out of sync with the runner but……

I do remember your comments. I hadn't particularly noticed what you were talking about at the time, as I tend to look at the linemen first and the RB second but after reviewing those running plays I completely agree with you. Gainwell was much better than Sanders at reading the holes. Since we run what is basically a zone-blocking scheme, the RB always has a choice. In its simplest form there's a double-team block and the back chooses which side of the block to cut. Which ever way the defender is being moved, the runner goes the other way.

Anyone here use a mobile sports betting app ? If so which one

The absolute best case scenario for us is Dillard being a good LT and Mailata maintaining his level of play at RT. That's long term. This year, it's Lane at RT when healthy/available, and JM at LT. Lane likely doesn't make it all the way thru the season, if we're being realistic.

Now, we don't really know what Dillard is. We do know he's better at pass pro than run blocking; but JR saw some good run blocking from him last game. It's not out of the question that under Stoutland, Dillard could develop. We didn't see him at all last year due to injury, and then the Philly beat writers did him dirty this spring/summer by trashing him. Considering this is a "lost" year, shouldn't we actually see what we have in the guy? Again, if all the horses are healthy, Dillard is the back-up LT. But in terms of resources, moving forward, the ideal scenario is Dillard/Mailata bookends (obviously if their play warrants it).

I use bet365, but I don't think it's the best one out there (also not sure if it's available to you Yanks)

No.  Because I don’t want a QB that has to run right all of the time.  It’s all bass ackwards.   Put JM back to where he was progressing.  Play Driscoll at RT.  Get a real QB one day.

Right, but for now it is what it is.

I think you are looking at the future. I love Lane but his time is limited here imo.

Right now Sanders is a barely get to first base hitter.

Too much of the rationale for keeping Mailata at LT and throwing Dillard on the trash heap misses the most basic point: play your best five guys. For example, Shawn Andrews would have been a better tackle than either Tra or Runyan but we played him at guard because Reid and Castillo wanted the best five guys out there. Tra and Runyan were strictly tackles; at guard they would have been lesser players. Whether each guy individually was in his optimal position was and is less important than that you have him out there with the other four top guys. Put another way in our current situation, if Lane isn't available, do you want Mailata and Dillard at tackle and Driscoll at guard or do you want Mailata and Driscoll at tackle and Herbig at guard?
