Trade two 1st rounders, the #16 and #19, plus a 2023 second rounder (or Jalen Hurts) to move up to the #2 or #3 pick overall.

Select QB Kenny Pickett at #2 or #3 overall.

Pick whoever you like at #15 slot.

No deferment of a pick to 2023 in the hopes to get a QB next year.

You have draft capital (3 first rounders this year) and 2 tradeable QBs this year. Do it this year.

Next year is kicking the can down the road and is risky, based on hope of converting two 2023 first round picks into a top 5 pick.

Best move is to trade Jalen Hurts. Get him out of the picture. Decision is done. Move on with Minshew and Pickett.

Yes it does, often an elite defense makes the difference.

Examples. Super Bowl last year - the Bucs D destroyed Mahomes. Then the Rams destroyed Brady this year (he only made a game of it because the Rams kept fumbling in the 4th quarter). Seahawks v Manning after an MVP season. Broncos v Carolina with what was then a crappy Peyton Manning.

Of course it makes a difference.

Injuries played a role in the Chiefs SB. I think they had backups at tackle that the Bucs were able to exploit. Plus IIRC there were a ton of drops from Chiefs receivers

I think Bucs had injuries against the Rams too but could be wrong

Peyton just fell apart in the postseason like usual but his defense got him the win

Overall I'd agree that an elite defense does help though

This post season has clearly shown me that the best action here is for the Eagles to still not make a real move at quarterback till 2023. I hope Howie does indeed trade down an flips at least two of these first for 2023 picks. None of the veteran guys are coming here and winning a thing. They’re all either not talented enough (Jimmy G, Carr, Cousins…), or are overpaid guys who lack the hunger in the playoffs cause they already won (Rodgers, Wilson), or a creep like Watson who already proved he can’t carry a team that lacks talent. ( 2020 4-12 team.) Seem like the best option is to hope the Eagles can draft a guy who won big games in college who had all the elite intangibles like Burrow. None of the guys coming out this season are on his level. On top of that 2023 brings more cap space which means a chance to build the roster while paying a rookie quarterback. The move is to wait.

It would be a huge mistake to trade up to 2 for Pickett. He could be a 1 year wonder and if everything goes right he's basically Derek Carr #2.

Much less risky  to stock up for next year, where a lot of mock drafts are already suggesting 7 first round QBs, we may not even need to get into the top 5.

Pickett isn’t going to be picked at #2. Not a chance.

I think if they wanted a QB (Pickett) Howie could call Joe Douglas and put together the framework of a deal to trade #16 and 19 to move up to #4, but the deal isn't executed until the Jets are on the clock.  You can't risk trading way up until you see how the board plays out first.  QBs will likely start going at #6 to CAR, unless someone trades in front of them.

If it gets to the Jets pick at #4 Howie calls Douglas and asks if the trade is still good to go.  If he hasn't found a better trade partner then you would make the deal and take your guy.

Yep. Without trades, he goes to Carolina at 6.

We’ll see. I don’t think he goes top 10.

Very possible.  Any team wanting a QB should trade back.  If no trades happen, I'm not going to be shocked to see Pickett, Corral, and Willis off of the table before our first pick.

I'd agree with not playing the "wait until next year" game, if QB is their pick.  We'll be mid-round next year too and looking at similarly skilled players.  I just wouldn't trade up aggressively chasing one until we see the draft unfold.

Howie set the fans' expectations that we are stuck with Hurts, so there is no disappointment if they don't land one in draft or FA and jubilation (and accolades) if they do.  This FO is smart enough to see that we are QB limited.

Some team will be in love with one of those guys especially if they have a good pro day/combine

It's easy to see Carolina, Denver, and Washington picking a QB in the current order, before us.  And who knows about Atlanta, Pittsburgh, NO, or the 2nd Detroit pick.   No matter how we feel or what we read, these QBs are going to go, despite not having a clear cut elite #1.

Honestly don’t think Pickett is even the first QB off the board. Some team will fall in love with Willis. Rocket arm, can move, from all accounts he was impressive at the senior bowl. I think he is first off the board.

It sounds like Willis will need a year or two but could happen as long as the drafting team has a placeholder.

Is that really even a thing anymore? I mean that's the ideal way to do it but, not to many do it that way anymore. I mean the super bowl just happened where both QBs were on historically bad teams and Burrow nor Stafford ever sat behind anyone. No one has time for that with the ridiculous amount QBs get. You have to figure out what you have fairly quickly

Are any of the quarterbacks coming out this year likely able to start day one of the regular season? I'm sure they can start but can they lead to a team to better than 2-15? Maybe if they have a really good O line and can runzzzz real fast they can go 9-8.:P

Maybe!! Lol. And to seriously answer your question, no I don't believe any are ready. You never know, QBs shoot up the board all the time and go to a team that needs to force a rookie to start.

QB's don't really get a lot of money until they hit free agency. The days of guys like Stafford and Bradford getting a crap load of up front guaranteed money as rookies before even proving themselves are long gone. The NFL has a slotted system so regardless of position, they all get roughly the same at whatever spot they are picked at. Don't get me wrong, teams get the new shiny toy and want them to start as soon as possible but if they have a decent placeholder, they could sit for a year and learn. The team would still control them for another 4 years. The problem comes when a team has a crappy placeholder and the team is losing. Now you have the local media and fans wanting to see the new QB and many times teams let that pressure make them put in the new toy when they aren't ready.

Niners with Lance. Bears tried to do it with Fields but that QB situation in front of him was just a mess.

That's why I said not to many. No one really has that luxury anymore. Bears don't count it's a QB graveyard

GB with Love, KC with Mahomes, NYG with Jones, Denver with Lock … there are others but it really boils down to each team’s situation.

Ok and that again is 1 or 2 from different drafts.  Also none of them amounted to much except Mahomes. Sitting a year doesn't mean they will be any good but, doesn't necessarily mean it didn't help them either.

Also Jones sat for 4 games I'd hardly call that sitting and learning and he still blows.

I just don't think it's necessary.

yup Willis looks like he can runzzzzz real fast, which means 9-8 if the team he goes to prepares to run a lot.   The other QBs are probably 2-15 guys,  and probably never get to 9-8 ever, because they can't run great.    Derek Carr got to 9-8 twice in 8 years.  And he's considered good by some.  Haskins, Rosen, Darnold,  haven't seen 9 wins out of those guys yet.  You look at the first rounders,  and you find some winners but more losers.  The runners have done well.

many mock drafts have Willis as the first QB picked, in the top 10.

I think it was McShay that said yesterday that he thinks Pickett can come right in and have a Mac Jones impact to a decent team.  The rest need time.  I think that is what we are seeing and hearing across the board.

Not remotely ready, but I think Willis will play right away, too.  As he becomes that team's version of Run Around Guy, fans fall in love with exciting plays and talk about upside and "give him a few more years".   That buys a coach and organization time.  Sound familiar?
