looks like the eagles are already tanking next year

As you know, I am not a big fan of Hurts, but you are right about make it or break it.   I just can't see Howie and Lurie ever benching him mid-season.  Considering the widely panned and chaos creating maneuvers to draft Hurts and then ship Wentz, I can't see them walking into the fire mid-season and admitting utter failure with the last 2 selections at the position.  That's why I think the next QB likely comes to this team as some major public relations type of trade.  It hides all the failure at the position with hoopla.

Yeah I don’t see the big trade for a guy happening. Howie basically reiterated that today I truly believe the Eagles never wanted to trade Wentz. Wentz wanted out. They planned for Carson to be the starter, but it all went incredibly poorly. I think at least for now Hurts is their guy, but you will truly know if the Eagles are hedging on Hurts if the indeed make moves to gain first in the 2023 draft. Something else I think people need to consider regarding some big trade is why would any of those guys want to come to Philly? Wilson doesn’t want to come here, because right now the Eagles can’t give him the big contract he wants. The Eagles aren’t really cap free until 2023. Now at that point is there a chance to bring someone in? Well if Hurt doesn’t show improvement they might not have a choice.

You are right on alot of points there. It's highly likely that the big QB move is not this year, despite my desire to rip the band aid off ASAP.  I hate the thought of these throw away seasons so badly.  Next year, when Hurts disappears, it will be nothing more than a typical 2nd round QB miss who got his shot and failed to impress after Wentz jammed them up.  Then Howie can make a big splash draft pick or FA and get all the praise for his masterful handling of the position (LOL).

It's not out of the realm of possibility that they are waiting through the Watson situation for another year to see what happens, while they ride a backup QB to another mid-pack season.

Of all the moves Watson is the one I think they’re considering, because he could be the guy for the next ten years, but until the heat of what is going on is behind him they’re not touching him and I see no chance of the Eagles wanting to give up big compensation for a guy who is that much of a question mark. Honestly even if the Eagles had Rodgers would things be really that much different right now? Think about it. The MVP of the league had a bye week and a home playoff game and still lost! The Eagles aren’t close to as good as the Packers even if they swapped quarterbacks. That’s the point here. The Eagles aren’t good enough even if you add one of these quarterbacks, and they’re too cap strapped to add a quarterback and make any significant free agent gains. The defense can’t stop moderately good quarterbacks now, but if the go out their way to give up picks and money to get one of these guys they aren’t making any improvements to the roster. So say hello to Zeke McPherson as the guy starting on the other side of Slay. The pass rush (or lack there of) get no improvements other than Graham in his thirties coming off a major injury. The linebackers are just hoping Taylor can stay healthy, and hoping Edwards wasn’t a fluke. Not to mention hoping the Jalen Reagor turns things around and somehow improves. By trading for and resigning one of these quarterbacks we are talking at least a five player swing from draft picks to free agent possibilities for a team that severely lacks talent. Having an elite talent at quarterback doesn’t mean anything if the team around him isn’t good enough.

Happy to discuss and admit Hurts’ issues. But he was always viewed as a developmental QB and took a pretty big jump from rookie year to year 2. So while you may be right and his weaknesses may be too much to overcome, you don’t know that he can’t take another step up in his third year.

As for the poll, all the realistic options are up there. There is nothing to indicate that Carr is available. So pick your favourite and qualify it in the post, as you have already done.

I do think the poll shows mostly that calmer heads prevail and understand the Eagles situation. You’re right all the scenarios in your poll are viable options. Clearly the smart move for the Eagles is to see what their 23 year old quarterback can do after teams have a year of game tape, a tougher schedule, and more talent around him.

The poll was put up before the playoff loss, so a lot of people would have changed their minds but can’t change their vote. A certain someone put a poll up straight after the playoff loss and it was very anti-Hurts.

I think it’s swinging back a bit now to calmer heads and a fair proportion would now think Hurts makes sense for next year at least.

Like you - I want to see what he can do next year. Could genuinely go anyway.

Ultimate reactionary fan base is the Eagles fan base. They crown guys as great or busts on a weekly basis. No one has the patience to let things play out anymore. Regardless of what any of us think about it the Eagles are going to stay the course and people will either need to accept that, be angry and stressed every time they see Hurts out there, or find another team to root for.

Yeah I remember the December game against Washington. Someone was demanding they bench Hurts when he was 5/6 for 80 yards with his one incompletion being a drop by Goedert.

Might be the most absurd thing I’ve ever read, but completely unsurprising at the same time. 🤦🏾‍♂️

For those wanting to trade to Seattle for Wilson, they turned down a trade with Washington for multiple firsts.

"Earlier this week, Seattle coach Pete Carroll insisted the team has "no intention" of trading the perennial Pro Bowler."

Why didn’t Russell Wilson accord to reports rule out Washington? Frankly it’s a lot easier for them to get to that cap number to pay him 45 mil a year. The real reason why Watson wants the Dolphins so bad is the same. These guys don’t want championships. They want money.

Can't blame them. Get all the money you can before your career is over  and live on it the rest of your life. He's already got a championship.

Well it seems Sirianni is set for Hurts again.  I did t realize till I read an article that Hurts only tossed 16 tds with 9 ints.  Ugh that’s putrid.  I wanna root for the kid but dude has to be tossing 34 or more TDS a year with the competition that’s out there.  This is another reason I’m scared that our Wr will suffer in their development.

There's a lot of talent at other positions this draft in particular defense. Build the roster, get a QB next year.

Well if you wanted to bomb to get a top 5 pick next year, that's how you do it. Keep a guy who has as many tds as Davis Mills and having to play more games to get there lol and Mills had a much better completion percentage.

For the record I’m not here saying Hurts is the "franchise quarterback” of the Eagles. Personally I hope Howie trades back, and accumulates more picks for 2023, because that’s the season I think they have the best chance to actually make a push. It’s certainly plausible the Eagles take a quarterback in the 2nd round, but it’s unlikely that guy beats out Hurts as the starter for 2022. More likely than not Hurts is the quarterback for 2022 despite if people love him or hate him, because it makes the most sense.

I know it’s not a popular take, but I have wanted Desmond Ridder for a while. This weekend did nothing to change my mind. He’s a low floor high ceiling guy, but he’s as athletic as Hurts (if not more so) with a better arm, better football IQ, and is a pocket passer who CAN beat you with his legs if a play breaks down…not a one read and run guy. Consistency is his issue. Let him sit for a year and learn the NFL. There’s no guarantee we are in position for a stud QB next year who typically go top 5.

Definitely seems like a project, but with three first the Eagles kind of have the luxury to pick a guy and groom him for a year or two for development with a 2nd round pick. We will see what happens, but just going by Howie’s own comments I feel like they’re planning to get offensive and defensive skilled position players with their higher picks, but you never really know with Howie.

If the Eagles are truly trying to tank then the better move might be to just go with Minshew. Yeah Hurts on the threw for 16 touchdowns, but he also rushed for 10. That’s 26 NFL touchdowns no matter how you slice it. Can’t have your quarterback out there putting up 26 touchdowns. Minshew on the other hand is going to get the ball out and you will get some production from you receivers, but frankly he’s not going to make a lot of winning plays. They have a better chance to lose games with Minshew out there.

Can’t say I blame them at all. Just pointing out that these elite quarterbacks aren’t going to come to Philly  and win like some people assume. That isn’t the best option. Despite how people feel about Hurts 2022 isn’t the best time to make a move for a quarterback. Building a better roster is the move for 2022.

I still stand at "we don't have one" and are stuck running a Wildcat offense again this season.

Ummm..... Minshew 41 tds/ 12ints in 22 starts

Hurts 22tds/13ints in 19 starts.... I would say hurts is far more likely to lose you a game than minshew.  You needing to use Hurts as a running back, or should I say hurts playing running back to try to cover his deficiencies will find him on the bench through play or injury. The fact minshew also has a career 63.6 completion percentage on a much worse team vs. a career 59 completion percentage with Hurts with a better overall team weakens your point of view even further.  I worry that some of you are putting the person over the player some times because when push comes to shove, Hurts is the second best quarterback on this team and when the numbers are there to see, you realize it's not even close. Btw, 26 NFL touchdowns with that many games isn't that impressive, especially since he probably stole 6-8 of those touchdowns from the starting running back who had zero for the year.  The banished one got 28 total touchdowns this year, but nobody including myself thinks he played great. This is a passing league, and this guy isn't a top 25 passer in the league, hell not even number one on his own team.

I feel bad for Minshew. Outside of Hurts getting injured again I see no opportunity for him to compete for a starting job.

I am still in the camp of trade for Wilson or Watson (if legal stuff check out) but if we do roll with Hurts I think we should trade for some 2022 draft capital for 2023 draft capital where the QB class is supposed to be better on paper.

I wouldn't want Watson anyway even if legally cleared, don't want a scumbag like that.  Plus don't want to trade a bunch of picks that should be used to build up the roster.  As for Wilson...
