For the record I’m not here saying Hurts is the "franchise quarterback” of the Eagles. Personally I hope Howie trades back, and accumulates more picks for 2023, because that’s the season I think they have the best chance to actually make a push. It’s certainly plausible the Eagles take a quarterback in the 2nd round, but it’s unlikely that guy beats out Hurts as the starter for 2022. More likely than not Hurts is the quarterback for 2022 despite if people love him or hate him, because it makes the most sense.

I do agree with that.  I think Hurts goes into 2023 the starter even if they draft a QB high, that person would have to win the job over Hurts.

I tend to think that while Howie is always open to all the options, this draft will not result in a QB this year (trade for veteran or draft one) and they will build the team and collect assets for the 2023 draft.  Then see how this season goes with Hurts.

People are still having this conversation. It’s funny the people think the Eagles are giving up on Hurts… the same team that didn’t give up on Dillard, Barnett, Reagor and JJAW. Keep dreaming people.

Not the best argument my friend.

Stick to your guns. Hurts was solid last year and most of the board was content to let 2022 play out, but after the Tampa playoff game (in which Hurts was terrible - no excuses), the Hurts haters have taken over and the overriding sentiment is that Hurts sucks and the Eagles need to move on this year.

Neither of which is true. Hurts may well not be the guy, but he is already a solid starter and costing the Eagles next to nothing. Rolling with Hurts and Minshew in 2022 while building the rest of the team is still the smart and most likely move.

This season is pretty much make or break for Hurts. If he’s not showing enough improvement by mid season and the Eagles aren’t winning games then I certainly could see a replacement during the season especially if they draft a guy in the second. I think the Eagles would prefer Hurts turns the corner rather than put assets (draft picks and contract money) into some other teams quarterback. It’s also possible for the Eagles to draft a quarterback if the right one falls to them, but still unless a young quarterback is considerably better than Hurts during TC and preseason it’s highly unlikely that guy replaces Hurts as the week one starter.

This poll is flawed, should be stuff like, get the best QB you can- of whats avail at good value. Hurts should be the last fing resort, even for a place holder, every game he starts hurts the development of the young guys.....

Every realistic option is up there. You’re just angry because you hate Hurts, but can’t see a viable replacement.

If you think Hurts is that bad and want a good value starter, then just pick start Minshew. He’s perfectly serviceable and cheap.

My point is the Eagles rarely give up on their own picks especially just after one season as a starter, and considering most of those guys were far worse than Hurts was there is no real reason to assume the Eagles are desperately trying to replace him. Take a look at what you see coming out of Washington, Miami, and now even Indianapolis. There are strong indications those teams were and are aggressively looking for other quarterback options. The Eagles themselves never have really given us that indication. It’s just easy to lump Philly into everything, because Eagles fans are suckers for hot takes and clickbait.

To be fair I think that Hurts sucks, but am also willing to hang onto him this year while we build the roster and examine the kids entering the draft next season.

I’m not sold on Hurts, but I think the Eagles need to build this roster more than they need to fret over the quarterback. I want them to hedge their bet on Hurts and load up on the 2023 draft by trading back in this one. I’m now 100% sold on Hurts, but I’m not absolutely against him like some people are. He needs to play better for sure, but right now I need to see the roster built up first.

This roster blows. No argument there.

That starts with the QB, but there are so many holes that the team can just about BPA every pick and get a starter.  This is a deep draft. We will just have to settle for Hurts and keep low expectations this season, while we fill some gaps.

Howie has completely neglected the D for years now in the draft. We have a chance to rectify it and add some good young talent this year. He needs to nail the first 3/4 picks and if he can find a way to pick up an extra first or second next year then all the better.

Just the first 3/4 so easy. That basically is the whole draft when you have that many early picks and the roster needs a complete upgrade

TE and O line are his safe bets, neither of them are needs they should be taking high this year.  They need to be drafting defense in particular make the right calls on the crop of DE talent and get more impact at the other defensive positions anywhere they can get it.  They have the opportunity to come away with a top DE prospect, a top LB or secondary player, then take some solid depth and guys to groom at other positions.

I would be disappointed if they didn't come away with at least 1 All Pro ( any position) and 1  pro bowl regular and 1 solid starter for a long time.

I really don't think that is asking a lot from 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. If they trade one I'm fine with that but, I still want to see an all pro and a pro bowler then.

Defensive end scares me with Howie.... Is he going to go the safe pick with minimal upside but, should be solid aka Graham and Barnett ( even though he sucks) or are they going to go for the higher ceiling with all the potential ?

Linebacker I won't even waste my time thinking about lol.

Secondary has been pretty atrocious, even worse than DE.

One of the recent podcasts went over how rare it was for a team with multiple first round picks to hit it big.

Coupled with Howie's early round draft failures makes it doubtful if they will get an All Pro, Pro Bowler, and solid starter.

Fingers crossed. Maybe this is the draft that Howie turns around the perception of his talent evaluation deficiencies.

I know, I can hope though. With the way he drafts, just 1 pro bowler might be asking to much.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. I am not angry, I dont hate Hurts. thats just a lazy take when you cant discuss his issues.

I am a realist. Hurts is a great guy, but a back up QB at best. He cant read post snap defenses, bails on clean pockets way too early and throws the ball late with almost zero anticipation. He has been in the league two full seasons, he is what he is, he will get better but not enough. And currently is holding back the development of the young WR's .

He was completely exposed in the playoff game against Tampa where their DB coach was caught on film stating "this guy cant read, keep doing what you are doing" Referencing that he can not read post snap changes. He reads pre snap and if it changes post snap, it confuses him making him bail or do circles in clean pockets because he does not know what to do. We started winning (against really bad teams) only when we took the ball out of his hands and relied on the run game. But we knew good teams would take that away and force him to beat them, which he cant.

There are plenty of vaible options, why limit ourselves to just one?

I go for Wilson, Watkins first, we may not be able to get them, is Carr avail and at what price? Assuming we dont like a QB in the draft this year, Keep working down that list to find a vaible placeholder QB all the way down to let Minshew start for a year

As you know, I am not a big fan of Hurts, but you are right about make it or break it.   I just can't see Howie and Lurie ever benching him mid-season.  Considering the widely panned and chaos creating maneuvers to draft Hurts and then ship Wentz, I can't see them walking into the fire mid-season and admitting utter failure with the last 2 selections at the position.  That's why I think the next QB likely comes to this team as some major public relations type of trade.  It hides all the failure at the position with hoopla.

This is his biggest problem.... Name me one damn player like Hurts who ever got better at this enough to actually have a long career as a starter? Then you throw the accuracy issues and a less then average arm and it's not just a hill to climb it's a effing mountain.

One thing that I am certain about, the Eagles will not do anything that I expect or think they should. They are totally unpredictable. And, they find new ways to eff things up every year.

So, QB next year?  I don't know why we're trying to say what should happen / get it right. They will eff it up.

Happy to discuss and admit Hurts’ issues. But he was always viewed as a developmental QB and took a pretty big jump from rookie year to year 2. So while you may be right and his weaknesses may be too much to overcome, you don’t know that he can’t take another step up in his third year.

As for the poll, all the realistic options are up there. There is nothing to indicate that Carr is available. So pick your favourite and qualify it in the post, as you have already done.
