We should have cut Jalen Hurts before the USFL draft.

He could have been a star in that league.

Sign Mitch Trubisky and let the 3 QBs compete.

You don't really want a competition then.

I'm hoping they try to keep cost down with serviceable QB. Don't want Roger's, Wilson or Watson. Eagles have other needs and opportunity to build team with picks.

Trubisky isn't serviceable though bud...

A solid backup option, but definitely no starter. Just below a 2/1 ratio and is about 3100 yard type passer. Great numbers....in the 90s lol

Why was he drafted so high? Mean he's done just as much as Roger's in playoffs. Just saying don't want any those high priced has beens. Either stick with jalen or take chance low cost, young qb with possible upside.

People are still having this conversation. It’s funny the people think the Eagles are giving up on Hurts… the same team that didn’t give up on Dillard, Barnett, Reagor and JJAW. Keep dreaming people.

Great examples.

They did give up on Dillard, hence Mailata starting.

They did give up on Barnett, hence they signed Sweat to a contract and Barnett is seemingly out the door.

Reagor has been so bad there are talks of them taking a WR in the first. Writing is on the wall, there.

This is the story of our failure and dysfunction in talent evaluation.

We must spend money to get stronger and produce better results in this area.

Last year's draft was pretty good. We need to produce good draft results with consistency.

This holding onto prospects that don't make the grade causes further dysfunction and frustration

Get on with it. Move on from these marginal players.

These guys were on the roster for years even though they stunk far worse than Hurts has. Any examples of the Eagles giving up multiple first for any veteran player ever? I’ll wait.

Good responses I was thinking the same.  Plus when Wentz was the starter they drafted Jalen Hurts.  When Bradford was the starter and they signed Chase Daniel, they drafted Wentz.  When McNabb was the starter, they drafted Kolb.  They have a pattern of collecting options at QB for their factory.  Howie loves to make deals and splashes.  Lurie wants exciting passing offense and preaches about the QB position constantly.

I don't think they should trade picks for a QB and I don't think they should draft one this year either but you know they are exploring options.

In the eyes of the Eagles sometimes you have to wait to see if a guy blooms into a player. That’s probably how they viewed their 2018 draft and that’s arguably Howie’s best draft. People still aren’t getting it though. How many times are we complaining about these guys yet their still here? People can whine until they’re blue in the face, but you know what? They are still going to watch and buy tickets especially if the team is winning games.

Well you just moved the goal post.  You said they don't give up on players like Barnett, Dillard and Reagor.  It was proven that's not really true, so now you're changing the argument to they've never given up multiple firsts for a veteran player.  I'm not saying they will do that or should do that, but that wasn't your first argument.

When Wentz was the starter after multiple years of injury and ineffectiveness they drafted Hurts, but Wentz was still the starter until Wentz wanted out. Bradford was Chip Kelly’s selected quarterback and a new regime came in (along with Howie) and they all wanted to move on from Bradford. That was obvious. When they drafted Kolb McNabb had multiple injuries and was nearing the end of his career. None of these scenarios are like dumping Hurts after one starting season a guy they drafted. Also Howie "exploring options” really means he’s only going to strike if he "wins the deal” and the Eagles would never give up three first for any player unless it feels like they would win the deal.

Incorrect. My point is the Eagles don’t make this move despite how much people assume they do. They don’t trade for these players and give up multiple picks. They would rather play their own than do that. Heck Howie was rumored to be in on Slay for years, but he didn’t pull the trigger until he could get the guy for less than a first. Every year the writers and everyone else keeps saying the Eagles are in on player x or y, but do they ever trade for them? The point is it’s a waste of time to keep crying about it or expecting something else when the reality is that’s not how the Eagles work.

They do have a history of letting players go, of course they're going to give higher picks more time to see if their investment pays off.

  • Marcus Smith, 1st round pick - cut after 3 seasons.
  • Eric Rowe, 2nd round pick - traded after only 1 season.
  • Syndey Jones and Rasul Douglas were 2nd and 3rd round picks in the deep corner class - cut after 3 seasons.

So 3 years is about the mark.  It makes sense to see if they develop or improve in year 2 or 3 on rookie deals then cut them after you've seen enough.  Dillard, JJAW and Sanders have completed 3 seasons.  It's very possible any of them or all might be cut. This is also the first year with new coaches so now after seeing these players in their system, we'll see who they decide doesn't fit.

Hmm released after 3 seasons. What season are we in for Hurts?

All valid, but doesn't negate the fact that when they had presumed starters they got a replacement.  Hurts hasn't had injury issues and he's only played a full season at starter.  But he had enough concerns and bad performances to put questions and debates out there.  They've added QBs in the past and there's no reason to think they are 100% sold on Hurts and would only bring in a backup (if they replaced Minshew) as insurance for injury and not to compete for starter.  They might.  They might not and roll with Hurts next year but most people believe that if they do that, Howie will trade one of those 1st round picks back to collect a future pick.

He even said that in his interview this week with Spadaro on their channel, that he wanted to collect "assets."  You know that's not assets for trading up for a corner or some other position.

Well Rowe was traded after just 1 season but yeah 3 seasons seems to be the average for cutting a player in their pattern.  But starting QB is different than any other position. And we're not talking about cutting Hurts, we're talking about if the Eagles want to explore options at QB.  What if they draft a 2nd round QB this year to bring in and see how he fits while Hurts is playing his 3rd year?   That's possible.  I agree they've never traded multiple firsts for a veteran and I wouldn't want them to trade multiple firsts for any of these rumors out there.  Howie does a good job of waiting to get a good deal and all that. But a general consensus is that if the Eagles aren't still sold on Hurts yet, they are preparing to replace him.  A popular opinion is that they will trade one of their 1sts for a 2023 1st so they can use ammo to trade up for a QB next year.

Wasn't really the original argument though, was it?

Aside from that, I don't recall ever saying that we will, have or should do that. If you need to move the goalposts though, which apparently you do, go for it.

Well that’s the overall point isn’t it? You whine and complain for a new quarterback, but you don’t have an answer or option for someone else? The original argument here is how people feel about the quarterback right? My point is the Eagles don’t generally give up on their young players. It isn’t the norm, and something else they don’t do is give up a bunch of picks for veteran players. So then what’s next? Free agency? Draft? Will any of those players make the team significantly better right now? Don’t think so. The truth here is the. Most likely scenario is Jalen Hurts is the starting quarterback at least for 2022. So what’s the point of whining if you don’t have any idea of what is the next best option? But hey you can always go back to your buddies and get back to complaining about things beyond your control.

For the record I’m not here saying Hurts is the "franchise quarterback” of the Eagles. Personally I hope Howie trades back, and accumulates more picks for 2023, because that’s the season I think they have the best chance to actually make a push. It’s certainly plausible the Eagles take a quarterback in the 2nd round, but it’s unlikely that guy beats out Hurts as the starter for 2022. More likely than not Hurts is the quarterback for 2022 despite if people love him or hate him, because it makes the most sense.

This poll is flawed, should be stuff like, get the best QB you can- of whats avail at good value. Hurts should be the last fing resort, even for a place holder, every game he starts hurts the development of the young guys.....
