At one point, Shameless was one of my favorite shows on TV.  The first few seasons, even into seasons 5-6 were hilarious.  Frank is the most despicable human being on that show in the history of television in my opinion.  I thought the plots got so ridiculous towards seasons 6 and 7 I kind of lost interest.  I don't think I've ever gotten that far into a show and not finished, but I thought the writing went really downhill.  However, it's tough to keep interest in the same characters for that long.  Overall, it's still a great show.

I made it all the way to the episode where Fiona buys some sheety laundromat, and I think the little brother was wearing cornrows and selling drugs.  😂

I think the roller coaster of "is this finally his/her big break in life?" "no its not" can get tiresome.

Obviously its a lot of seasons now with the same characters, but I think they have kept fresh story lines coming for each of them.

imo this shameless season without Fiona is pretty much the same as it always was. I still enjoy it and dont miss her at all.

The first episode was weird in the sense that you have to just buy the sudden abrupt transition of Debby being the responsible one running the house.

If you just go with it, the rest of the show is fine. And, its not horrible because Debbie is still no angel. They havent just tried to make her the new Fiona. Its somewhat buyable.

I hated Debby. Also the writers seemed to have completely forgotten that Lip is supposed to be a genius.

they did forget that. and for like 2 seasons you never saw or heard mention of Debby's baby. But the baby is in this most recent season now that theyre making her act sort of like head of household..

Im not sure that they forgot with Lip or that they feel theyve portrayed enough that he has given up on himself after he has blown every opportunity thats ever been in front of him.

Spoiler

I was disappointed in it because his background and being a genius was interesting. I couldn't stand Debby. She reached levels where I wouldn't have cared if she was killed off. Carls growth was interesting to watch. They had him doing all kinds of stuff. I think I'm a season behind. I just didn't really care about Fiona that much. She was the loose older sister that tried to keep everyone together. They made her more important when they forgot Lip wasn't a genius(lol yes it does bother me that much)

Fiona had times of extreme A-hole-ness too. every one of them has had times when it looks like theyre going to move up and out of that life. And every one of them has been a major D to everyone in their life too.

Debby acting as HOH right now but shes not actually good and trustworthy. Youll see if/when you catch up on it.

I like this season without Fiona. Not because I hated her but the show eventually focused completely on her for a few seasons. Everyone had their arcs, but it was all always tied to how it affected Fiona. Without her now, everyone is just doing their thing. Its been solid I think.

I'm a huge Shameless fan but the last season was painful.  If Fiona comes back I'll watch again but otherwise I dunno.

I'm still not over his endorsement of this movie on the old board.   😂   Dawk4Prez, this was the worst movie I've ever seen.

I will not repent for recommending a Gaspar Noe film.

Probably old news to most of you but I just started watching Hannibal.  Really really into it.  Some of the ancillary characters aren't my favorite but Mads Mikkelsen and Lawrence Fishburn are fantastic.  Good show if you're into creepy murder stuff.

Into 2nd season of Umbrella Academy for which me and wifey are in total binge mode right now.  The bad action scenes magically disappeared dunno f it was a change of directors or what, but this show is really good.  Reminds me a lot of first couple seasons of The Expanse.  Just the way it weaves so many sub-sub-sub genres and kinda knots them together with fun & light exposition.  It' got that Joss Whedon pacing to it.  #5 is a f'ing star, he carries the show.

Happy for what though? 5 minutes? Or has she 100% descended into madness at this point so moving forward sure she's "happy..." but does that also mean shes lost her mind? If she lost her mind how is that true happiness?

Happy to be free of a loveless relationship. Happy to be a central figure in her own life and in her social group rather than being a supporting character for her bipolar sister and a tag along for her boyfriend.

She didn’t lose her mind at all. In a dark way, she actually found it.

You should write books dude.  That is a drop the mic explanation to the film.

Thank you, but that’s entirely too generous! It’s one thing to interpret a story, it’s another thing to create one! But since it seems you liked the film, I went back to see if there was anything to add and came across this which I must have missed:

I see Kubrick’s influence in three ways: the atmosphere, some of the cinematography and the use of background imagery/foreshadowing/allusions/name use.

The atmosphere is pretty self explanatory. The cinematography that immediately came to my mind were the similarities between the overhead shot of Dani and company driving to the commune and a similar shot of Jack and his family driving to the hotel in The Shining.

The biggest similarity in my opinion was that last one. Eyes Wide Shut and this film had a lot in common in the use of names, especially Dr. William Harford  (Bill, played by Tom Cruise) in EWS and Christian in Midsommer. In the former, Cruise is called Dr. Bill which seems to be a reference to dollar bill, implying Cruise is the paid help and not really among the true power elite. His last name, Harford, originated in "deer crossing,” which one can take as a deer in headlights sort of reference or as a more allegorical innocent prey crossing from ignorance to knowledge. In Midsommer, Christian dies for Dani’s salvation, a rather obvious reference to Christ’s sacrifice for the salvation of humanity at the hands of pagans. Then there is Dani, a reference to Daniel surviving the den of lions in the Bible, with a literal translation of "God is my judge” from Hebrew (worth noting that the writer/director is Jewish). I think this also supports our take that Dani is happy and has not lost her mind.

The background imagery in Midsommer has been explained explicitly as foreshadowing by the director (especially the paintings inside the bunk house), while in EWS and also in The Shining (among other SK films) it was more vague, but there were Easter eggs all over both films in the background.

The one thing I actually enjoyed most about Midsommer was that it actually attempted and even achieved a bit of intelligence. That’s so rare for a Hollywood film these days.

Don’t exactly care for Stephen King but liked The Outsider and think I like Castle Rock after watching the 1st season

Reprisal, sort of Twin Peak-ish is enjoyable but needs at least a 2nd season so hopefully someone picks it up

I love Stephen King. Season 1 of Castle Rock was ok. Season 2 became unwatchable. Still need to finish the outsider. It's ok but not nearly as good as the book.

Just finished binge watching the first 2 seasons of this.  It's kind of out there, but definitely entertaining.  They've done a good job of creating a new and different story line for each season, which as the S2 finale' shows that S3 will be a whole new ballgame.  Like same players, but different stadium.

Now that I'm done with this I'm keeping up with The Alienist.  An early 1900s crime/drama set in NYC.  Features Daniel Bruhl (would like to see him and Ewan McGregor in a film together, they could easily play brothers), Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning.
