She had a little Daenerys Targaryen look to her.   Not as hot.  But similar.

She was great. Sold the decent into crazy town better than Dany that's for sure. Also LOVED the "bad trip" cinematography.

If you liked Midsommar check out Ari Aster's other film "Hereditary". If you didn't like it cause it was uncomfortable and Fed up definitely don't do that though. I'm definitely watching any film he comes out with going forward.

Get ready to be disturbed beyond belief.  It's the creepiest cult movie I've ever seen.

I've heard good things.  Might watch it now.

i feel the same way about gaspar noé.

i did enjoy both movies...don't get me wrong. they're both much better than 99% of the awful horror movies that are on netflix & prime.

  I had no clue who that was until I just googled.  Are all his movies the pornos on Netflix?

There have been no good horror movies made in the last 5 years that I can even think of other than Hereditary and Midsommar.

In everyone's opinion.  Midsommar was just weird.   That director has a thing with heads.

I haven’t seen hereditary, but I thought Midsommar was pretty darn good for what it was. It straddles the line of art house and feature film really well. Lots of esotericism while still having a fairly straight forward plot.

The cinematography, costume design and set making was fantastic. Truly stunning from a visual perspective, and I don’t say that lightly. The tone and vibe of the movie was definitely creepy, in a good way for a horror/suspense type of film. I got a little bit of a David Lynch vibe from it. Also a dash of Kubrick.

On the negative side, it might be a bit too bizarre for the average person. There was a bit too much dwelling on repetitive and annoying hysterics. It’s a fine line to walk, but there were times when I was thinking "enough with the screaming/wailing/moaning/etc people — we get it.”

Overall, I think it’s a polarizing film: the type of people who will like it will probably like it a lot and the type of people who don’t like it will probably be highly critical. Put me much more in the former camp than the latter.

The more I process the more I appreciate the Kubrick comparison.  The background of the main character was a waste of time.  Probably done just to add more horror to the movie, with the murder/suicide.  Maybe their attempt of having an already sad person come to a seemingly happy place only for it to turn like it did was a different from the alternative.  I just felt like it was 30 mins on the front end of the film that was wasted.  We were already tired of her before she got to Sweden.  I’m not saying it was a bad movie.  Cause it was definitely different and strange and that’s good.  I just thought there was a lot of weird ish that didn’t make sense.  I guess that was the intent.

I think the pacing was one of the weaker spots of the movie in general. It went to overly great lengths to hit you over the head with some concepts, like the depression of the main chick and the imitation of sound by the cultists. They took these things to a 10 to get the point across when an 8 probably would have accomplished the same thing.

I would totally understand anyone who didn’t like it. It’s not a movie for everyone. But I thought for what it is, it was very good. Not quite great, but definitely worth seeing for anyone that likes things a little artsy and a little off the beaten track.

I don’t know how I never thought of the Kubrick comparison.  Well done. His ability to create creepy and uncomfortable will never be matched.

Chickie watched a video by some broad that mocks Trump and there was a sly reference to Usual Suspects (the actress in the skit listens to someone explain something and then compares what was said to pictures on a billboard while holding a coffee mug, comes to a realization and drops the mug). She texted the video to me with a note saying there were comments referencing the movie Usual Suspects and didn't get the reference. I asked Chickie if she ever saw Usual Suspects and she said no. I replied with

DO NOT CLICK ON OR READ ANY REPLIES THAT EXPLAIN THE REFERENCE

but too late, someone had posted a gif referencing the  scene from the movie. Thankfully it was just a short clip of Detective Kujan looking at the billboard as Verbal is monologuing  and drops his mug, no sound and too short to really get the gest of what's going on. So i still get to introduce Usual Suspects to her.

The same thing happened when that idiot newscaster reported the quote from the oppressed masses scene from The Holy Grail. She hadn't seen this either and I was able to introduce her to the Grail.

Because the main guy is 27 and is playing a 16 year old and the others are in their early 20s playing 16 year olds. I thought they were in college lol

Thats pretty normal I think. I remember Glee was like that. Those were late 20s and early 30s playing high school kids.

One interesting thing I found out about the show. The blonde kid with the abusive father was actually cast to be John B. And he asked to switch roles (I forget why). Who knows what that performance woulda looked like. Maybe good, or maybe they had it wrong. But I think that switch turned out great.

I never watched Glee. Had no idea they still did that. There's plenty of teens that could have cast nowadays

That's interesting. It may work. They could use the troubled older kid who was starting a bad life

Usual Suspects is currently playing on Prime Video, btw.

I think the background was kinda necessary. You got a deep look into how much of a **** the bf was, in his forever eye rollyness toward anything to do with the gf. He couldn't wait to get away from her while she was grieving in trying to get out and go to a party and then sneakily was planning a summer Europe getaway 😂 But there was still something very human about how selfish he was acting, it made me feel guilty thinking about times in the past where I wanted to just have time with friends and didnt want to hang with my gf. Having some of that insight helps to not give a crap about him and his fate later in the movie.

Seeing the grief and depression the gf goes through early on too in the cold dark winter clashes with the Midsommar atmosphere nicely too. There is just something awesome about a horror movie that doesn't try to hide in the dark, and brings it to you in absolute clear, visible light. So you think okay shes in this nice Euro town in the summer, maybe her lucks about to turn around. But obviously, that doesn't happen. Simple sorta symmetry but I really enjoyed it.
