I think his HR performance was 2024 when he was also an all star. Amazing at this point last year Bohm was top 3 in batting avg. now he’s like bottom 3
May 10May 10 How many more rough starts before they consider sending Sixto err Spencer err Abel I mean Painter to AAA to settle down?

They don’t have anyone good in the minors that’s ready. You want Rangel or Seth Johnson… both are likely not very good and no upside (Johnson once did then he continued to get crushed up here).at least our $25 mil pitcher went 4.2 IP yesterday as they were afraid he’d give up a big inning to the Rockies LH hitters. 3 of his last 4 starts he hasn’t made it thru the 5th. 4 of last 5 he hasn’t pitched in the 6th. An issue considering he’d supposed to be a "innings eater” and making $24.6 mil

If Lehigh Valley for another year is better for his development (and it almost certainly is, considering he's never even pitched that well there), then they might as well find some other sacrificial lamb to get shelled out there every 5th game.

Cotham is a better pitching coach then anyone they have in triple A. Arguably has been one of the best MLB pitching coaches since coming here. He’s helped numerous guys be better here than anywhere else. Outside of garbage like familia, Romano and guys of that ilk he’s actually gotten Sanchez to improve his command which was an issue his entire minor league career, wheeler in making a jump and adding to his arsenal, luzardo last year was good and particularly in the postseason, Jeff Hoffman hasn’t been the same since he left, got the most out of Alvarado and Kerkering someone he has bounced back from a situation where other guys completely disappeared after. Yet again he’s 7 starts into his career. Might want to give him more than 7 starts before pulling the plug.

They essentially bypassed AAA when he never demonstrated he was ready to do so. They knew he wasn't ready for this and they forced it simply because Ranger walked and they wanted him to ascend into the open spot. Painter was more major league ready in 2022 than he is right now on 5/10/2026. In 4 years, they've gone backwards. And again, that speaks poorly to the Phillies' ability to bring along elite prospects. I get that TJ derailed things, but they screwed that up too.

Greg Maddox in his first 32 starts at a 5.5+ ERA. Skubal through his first 16 starts at a near 5.60+ ERA. Tom glavine awful his first 8 starts and even his second year he was a mid 4.5 pitcher. There’s plenty more who were considered good pitchers that struggle to start. They don’t just automatically send them back to the minors after 7 starts. Usually give them more time than 7.Again, sending him to the minors does not help when the Lehigh Valley iron pigs have 1 starter currently that has an ERA below 5 (minimum 6 starts. Heck Jean Cabrera who was our best SP prospect In LHV has a 9+ era). So sending him there when they show them that they’re not very good at developing is a certainly choice. It wasn’t until Cotham got with Sanchez that Sanchez made his jump with command. People didn’t care cause Sanchez wasn’t considered a top prospect but it took over a year with Cotham to get his command where it is now. Even in 2023 he had command issues at times. It took from 2022 where he got some work with Cotham thru 2023 (major work) to see the fruits of Cotham working with him. He got sent down for short stretch but he still had the same issues in the minors. It wasn’t til he was on this roster consistently that Cotham worked with him and it got better over time. He also helped Ranger in going from bullpen arm to top of the rotation starter. Furthermore, Cotham coming into the season was considered one of the best pitching coaches in baseball. So who would you rather have him working with? Cotham who’s been known to develop and help guys over time at the mlb level or the Lehigh Valley iron pigs who didn’t help him last year when he was down there and their staff who’s been awful this year? (He also never was triple A prior to the injury)So the choice is working with mediocre coaching (maybe generous) in triple A (didn’t help last year) or working with cotham? He might very well be a bust but I’ll take my chance with Cotham for more than just a handful of games then the coaching at Leigh valley.
May 10May 10 trying to think like the Phillies, I think painter gets until end of June/beginning of July to try to fix some of these problems and show improvement. (Unless he just continues to give up 7-8 per start over the next 3-4). If they are still in the wildcard race into July, I think they’ll go and get themselves a 5th starter if he is still struggling. At that point, I think they move him to the bullpen to be a long reliever so he’s still here working with cotham. Him getting more starts in the minors while having the same issues there isn’t as helpful as potentially just continuing to work with cotham.

No depth, minor leagues is a joke, DD can't make trades because he sucks, they have no money left

Too many years and too many to just guys who weren’t worth the money.also they traded away any of the depth they had to get certain players. Like they traded away two prospects to get Duran. Needed too due to Dave’s incompetence in the offseason of Romano and Ross. They dealt away O’hoppe (which was given cause realmuto was re-signed) to get marsh then never really drafted and developed catchers. Even the kid who went to the twins, he was eventually going to 1b/DH and most scouts knew that. They gave up two depth prospects to get estevez cause DD didn’t understand fixing the issue in the offseason while everyone said they were a BP arm short. Some of that is no money to spend cause of Dave and some is Dave’s arrogance. You would have more depth to your minor league system if DD solved more issues in the offseason. Deadline deals can be helpful but when you have 2-3 issues every year at the deadline with a 300+ mil roster and needing to give up depth is due to poor spending and bad offseasonsTheir draft and development is not great. Yet it is still better than what it was 10 years ago. Frankly that’s more because with pitchers they can seem to find better value, identify things they want and at least hit on some of them over time. Their hitters have had issues making the jump. Miller may or may not break that mold. However can’t trade guys for marginal upgrades or guys who’ll leave after a year as you assume they’ll just all be busts. Ed Wade held onto Howard years ago but everyone was pushing for that deal as we really had poor draft development for positional players prior to Howard, Ruiz, Rollins and utley arriving. Prior to that moment was basically just rolen for like a decade
