I think the analytics for most of his career fielding wise have been good. His hard hit rate before this year wasn’t particularly great. It’s been better this year.

They kind of dumb lucked into it. Because Dombrowski did a terrible job just thinking kemp was good to be good enough to platoon with him. He sucked so, they’ve been forced to have to play him against left-handed pitching as they didn’t have anything better.

That's why I hate giving him credit for it lol.

that trade looks immensely better now than what it did last May. Ohope hasn’t become anything, but what he became or what he did didn’t become didn’t matter at that point. You were always trading him as an asset because you signed Jt Realmuto the contract the same year you traded him. So he was always getting dealt so you were trying to capitalize on your asset.

I thought that was a bad trade up until this year. it’s a loss on me cause I didn’t think Brandon marsh was ever gonna be able to hit left-handed pitching. So if you traded one of your best assets that you had at that time for a platoon player, at the time of the trade ideally, you wanted a full-time player at centerfield not a platoon player with that type of top 60 prospect. Marsh learning how to hit left-handed pitching this year, makes that trade awesome for the Phillies. Granted you would’ve wished you would’ve done that two or three years ago not one year before he runs out of arbitration.

I can’t help but think a lot of that is giving him opportunities to hit against lefties to start with instead of mentally preparing him to start against a righty then have 1 bat against a lefty in the pen and then he gets benched after that. Marsh not given starts against lefties more than one day a week or however often it was. It seems that Marsh has welcomed that chance and turned people like me who wanted him out of here really appreciate what he’s done this year overall. How much of that goes into Robs decision to bench him and how much of that is just on Brandon’s efforts? No credit whatsoever to Kevin Long he can go **** himself

What a waste of food.... Just saying lol

The thing with Marsh was at the beginning of last year they tried to let him hit LHP, and he was terrible. Sadly he was terrible against anyone. I think last year, once he came back and started hitting well that they didn’t wanna screw with him in case he struggled against lefties then it screws with the rest of his swing. He did have a bats in the postseason against left-handed pitching, and he was terrible. But then again he was terrible against RHP too.

What do you think is the reasoning to his sudden success? It’s PEDs innit? Should we not be surprised if he goes on the 80 day suspension?

I want to say some of it is some guys just take longer. Like the Cardinals had Jordan Walker up for 3 years he was never the player they thought. In year four (this year) he’s basically a superstar and in the MVP conversation. I really think what happened was marsh lost all confidence in April last year. He got sent to the minors. Massive wake up call in his career. I also think it probably helped him focus on enjoying playing as he was pressing then lost confidence and it all collapsed.

I know it was just one game but if this lineup keeps raking, when Turner comes back they should stick him lower in the order like near the bottom at least till he works his way out and shows he's consistently hitting well again. I'd hate for Turner to come back and kill the top of the order again.

Son of a

7 lefties in today’s lineup. Impressive

He didn’t take my advice either. I said that option before Turner got hurt. It makes no sense for Turner to be atop of the lineup with a low OBP and avg. give your better hitters more chances. Even if late game they bring in the LHP. They are going to do that regardless if schwarber and Harper are coming up

Also start Stubbs. The ERA when he and marchan catch is dreadful and yet they are doing it with painter who’s already struggling. Also weird schedule quirk play tomorrow and off Friday

World Cup game Friday night the linc. My guess why they’re not playing.

That was what I thought last night. It’s the only thing that makes sense. They also have another one I wanna say the beginning of July that’s like that. I’m guessing it’s also because of the World Cup.

Painter consistently getting behind 2-1 and 1-0 isn’t going to cut it. It basically forces him to hope guys chase (not going to) or waiting til he just throws an over pitch and hitting it. Also wouldn’t have had Stubbs as catcher when he’s trying to figure it out.

Time to send a painter down

Painters a mess

It’s his control wasn’t there at all and his fastball doesn’t have any movement. He got behind in almost ever count and the Marlins forced him to have to throw a pitch that was over. His offspeed pitches were not consistently hitting the zone. If he’s not gonna have his fastball, then you have to have command of your secondary pitches. And it was his fastball that he used to finally get it over and it got crushed every single time.

Doesn’t help that stubbs also stinks at calling games. Probably want jt catching a struggling pitcher and then getting two days off as opposed to Stubbs catching a struggling pitcher

Thanks for the overview. I'm working and not watching this one but just saw the box score and went holy crap...

Trea error followed by banks giving up a homer will probably do it. The Phillies besides SP, RH bat need a LH reliever. Banks and Alvarado both have been bad

Wonder if backus gets called up and banks goes in "IL”

This team needs to he sellers at the deadline. They need too many pieces- 2 leftie BP arms because Alvarado and Banks stink. A righty bp arm because Keller stinks, a righty hitting outfielder, and a 5th starter because Painter is a pile of trash. Sorry, they aren't competing for crap this year.

Should but they won’t. Frankly I’ve been saying just make the Adell and Detmer trade with the angels. At least that gives you 2 of your needs. LHP i don’t know where they get. Amazing can’t have enough LH hitters in the system but very little LHP relievers
