Schwarbomb city!  Too funny that we just made a bunch of posts yesterday about how bad he has been yesterday.

Now need to get Harper comfortable.  He is getting some hits now and again but we need a couple of HRs over the next week or so.

I'm pumped as I have the game on TV tonight.  At some point I'm going to end up buying a month of streaming from MLB and then I'll get all the day games and maybe I'll watch a few live in the middle of the night.  The big playoff games for sure. Just isn't the same watching a replay the next morning.

That one will never go away.  After Lenny hit the big HR I though it was going to game 7.

Also, I was at the 15-14 game and Mitch meltdown (how many of those did we see?).  My only WS game in person.  That series is going to haunt me to my grave.  '93 was my favorite team as well.  This one is pretty close to the top, mind you.

I was at a halloween party for game 6 and after the home run, that party ended fast

Mine was a bit different.  I was at a VERY big alumni weekend at my college which was the 300 year celebration weekend for the school.  For the game I was back at my fraternity and it was the northern boys fraternity at a school in the south.  We had a good chunk of Philly fans but also people from NJ/NY/CT/Mass etc. and they were all really happy to give the Philly group a ton of sheet.  It was all fun and games but I was not happy to say the least, fricking Mitch.

That HR ruined my childhood watching sports. Only to be crushed again as a young adult by the eagles 4 years in a row. Sadly was the only Phillies playoff team i saw from ages 1-22.

Unfortunately for me I was 13 and never really watched a lot of baseball so I didn't have a team yet and I only remember the Joe Carter home run so I became a blue jays fan for a awhile lol. I still follow them a little bit but, I dont watch them and only follow some of the good players they have.

I remember that game in '76 like it was yesterday.  Day game of course.  Great memory.

Of course you do, old timer.  April 17, 1976 (Schmidt’s four homer game at Wrigley) is my DOB.  There’s a fun fact for you.

Define "fun".

If you mean fun in as we now have a clue to when we should go back in time and give your father a fleshlight to use instead.....

Then yeah... I guess that is fun.

I'm not sure which Phillies team was more heartbreaking- the 93 team or the 2011 team. If the 93 team wins that game 4 where they gave up that 14-9 lead, I think they win the series, or at the very least, goes to a 7th game.  The 2011 team should have won it all. If Cliff Lee doesn't cough up game 2, the Phillies win that series in 4 games, max. The only question I would have would be whether Ryan Howard still tears his Achilles even if they get past St. Louis. That thing was bothering him for some time, and he also was receiving cortisone injections, so who knows. If he managed to stay healthy, there is no doubt in my mind they beat Texas in that World Series. Halladay deserved to win a ring with how dominating he was.

That’s kind of cool.

I mean, they went back to back right?  Not a bad team to root for.  Except you had to cheer for Roberto Alomar…

I’d argue 93 was more heartbreaking. That was unexpected ride and a unique cast of characters. The way it ended was in the most heartbreaking fashion.

the 2011 was more disappointing. I’d argue in my lifetime that was the greatest Phillies team assembled (wasn’t alive during 1980 and prior to that). That team was legitimately stacked. 4 Aces and a really good lineup. To me that teams was clearly the best Phillies team of that era and yet managed to lose to the cardinals in the NLDS. If i remember correctly the Phillies had a chance to keep the cardinals out of the playoffs to which makes it worse. with Howard that thing was eventually going to rupture. Like you said he was getting cortisone injections for much of the year. Over the course of time it thins the tendons/ligaments. I’m surprised with how good they were that year they didn’t just rest him for a month. He played 152 games. Really was no need to play him that much as that team won the division by 13 games and the 2 seeded brewers were 6 back

Yeah 2011 was arguably the best team. ‘80 wasn’t even the best of that era in my mind. ‘76 and ‘77 were both better but disappointed in the playoffs.

It’s the same kind of thing with 08. Like out of the 5 teams from 07-11, they are probably the weakest of the 5 outside of 07. Frankly also disappointing was Hamels in 09. I still believe if Hamels wasn’t as bad as he was that year that the Phillies would’ve repeated. Lidge drop off didn’t help but really Hamels and Lee would’ve likely been enough to take out the Yankees. His 7.58 ERA in the playoffs was just abysmal. Game 3 is where they had a chance to take control of the series. Hamels was given a 3-0 lead and blew an inning later.

The 70s team was a bit too staid. They had Bowa but needed someone else with the external spark and fiery competitiveness that Rose provided in ‘80 to help them get over the hump.

‘93 was the most fun and crazy team. They had all the intangibles you’d ever want and those made up for whatever talent that was missing. They simply didn’t have enough to overcome the limitations of Mitch blowing games.

I think the Harper being hurt stuff is a convenient excuse.  His wrist and elbow hurting hasn't caused him to swing and miss at 1,000 breaking pitches outside the zone over the past month and a half.

Tbh i think a lot of fans want to use some excuse for why he hasn’t had a lot of power lately. I think teams aren’t giving him pitches to tee off on and when he has he has simply missed doing it. The fact he’s hitting .362 over his last 12 games tells me it’s not that big of a deal. Just have to hope his power comes back at some point during the postseason.

yep, theres a reason turner and casty are hitting better right now. They're seeing more pitches to hit while harper is seeing less.

I think regardless of Harper's power or lack of they still have a hole in the cleanup spot since Rhys left. Who do you think they could go after this offseason assuming Soto goes elsewhere? Santander?

I have always considered the '77 team to be the best one of that era ('76 through '83). What happened in the ninth inning of game three was crushing. And then they played game four in the rain while Bowie Kuhn sits in the stands and smugly pretends it isn't raining.

Teoscar Hernandez is available. He’s having a great year. Strikeouts a lot. I’m also unsure if his resurgence is because he has guys like Ohtani, freeman, will smith and now betts that allows him to see more pitches.

Tbh i wouldn’t be shocked if they look to make a trade. The OF market isn’t great outside of Soto and Hernandez. Gamel is older. Bellinger likely opts in and i don’t trust Jackson profar. I think Kyle Tucker is going to get dealt. On the last year of his contract. Phillies could put a package of marsh, Caba and someone like Abel which might entice the Astros as he’s gonna walk at the end of the year and he’s coming off an injury season. Marsh being cheap for 3 more years and the Astros have taken on guys they believe they can fix problems with.
