I'm thinking Brewers. They have been resilient, winning despite a lot of injuries. Of course, having so many injuries catches up to you, so I see the American League team beating them in the World Series. I am going with the Yankees over Brewers this year. On another note, "expert" David Ortiz is already wrong with his World Series prediction from the All Star Game, since he picked the Red Sox to win the Series (again, back in the middle of July).

Idk the brewers hitting isn’t great. Have a great bullpen but really besides peralta their starters aren’t very good. Rea, civale and montas might be the worst 1-4 rotation in the NL playoffs. Still think the padres. Cease, darvish, king and musgrove are a really good 1-4. Perez got lit up toda but had been really good prior. musgrove who’s been much better second half. Their bullpen is top 3 in ERA since all star break. They also got tatis back and can hit. Since all star break they are 2nd in average, 3rd in slugging, 3rd in OPS and 2nd in wRC+. they don’t strikeout a lot and put the ball in play (team that struck out the least in baseball)
September 30, 20241 yr I don’t see the Phillies getting enough quality innings out of their bullpen to get on a long playoff run, and I certainly don’t have confidence in their starters being a 3-headed monster to carry them through a series. I have confidence in Wheeler but it’s a bad position to be in, hoping that Nola can be a solid playoff performer. Sanchez is an unknown commodity in the playoffs and Suarez has been throwing batting practice the second half of the season. Didn’t he start the year 9-0? He finished 12-8 …. yikes. Even if the bats get hot — they can only stay hot so long in the playoffs. Gonna need excellent starting pitching and the bullpen will need to overperform.

Not this season, but I wonder if they consider putting Ranger in the pen long term. He doesn’t appear to be able to handle a full season as a starting pitcher without getting injured and losing effectiveness.

I’m not sure the Phillies can do it next year unless they go into FA and get another starter. Painter is back but he’s going to be on an innings restriction. So by the time the playoffs come (assuming we make it) he’s likely done for the year. Frankly i have a feeling we are going to make a trade or sign a starter. Crochet makes sense if they keep painter. I don’t see them trading painter for him as they already turned that down. Add on he was not good the second half of the year as he had a 5.12 ERA. Part of me wonders if guys like Freddie peralta and cease. Peralta has 2 years of club options and ceases has 1 year left on his contracts. Cease less likely but padres didn’t keep Soto due to payroll so i wonder if they rather deal cease and get prospects back then pay him.
September 30, 20241 yr Breaking news!!!! Next year going back to old style uniforms and for all star game players will wear the team uniform

September 30, 20241 yr Read this on a separate Phillies site: "Listening to Ruben on the Phillies podcast today and I think it's pretty clear the issue with Ranger. Same issue that has always been there and the reason he can't get past 150. He's out of shape again. Amaro danced - a little - around the reason saying it was a chicken and the egg situation, unsure whether the back injury prohibited his staying in shape or him not continuing the conditioning he received in spring training once the season started causing the back issue. All of the guys on the podcast including Zolecki agreed that right now he is out of shape and said Thomson is hoping that the adrenaline of the playoffs will get him through like before.”
September 30, 20241 yr Cy Young could be on the line for Chris sale today. He has a chance to get the Braves into the playoffs by being dominant and winning the game against a hated rival Mets (who really have nothing to play for as they’ve clinched a WC berth with the win in game 1). If he implodes or isn’t very good it might actually help wheeler.

I think that’s contributing towards him being it of shape. You saw it in the second inning he began doing twists and stretches to loosen up his back after a strikeout. Then trying to loosen it up again in the 5th doing some other stretches. Frankly i think he needs to have a better offseason regime and stay in shape but i have a feeling this back issue is going to wind up being worse than they let on. Frankly amaro saying what he did feels like he has more info but not able to share it. I remember dbacks commentators saying they have more info from the team but are told what to put out. So I’m guessing he knows more

If they win and he pitches game 1 i call BS on the spasms. Frankly it’s high risk move but if it works they are set up way better for game 1 at sd
