I’d argue the NL teams really don’t have great 4th starters besides the padres since Perez came over. Phillies: ranger dodgers: knack (their 3rd is Buhler right now who’s been bad) padres: Perez (might be the best 4th in the playoffs) dbacks: Pfaadt (not good this year)/nelson who has cooled off dramatically Mets: Quintana/megill Braves: Morton (Lopez is hurt) If i were ranking it currently it’s padres, Mets, Braves/Phillies (if it’s Morton), dbacks and dbacks

Knack also has gotten hit around by Az,Phillies, Braves and SD. Morton on the road is close to a 5 era. Perez and whoever the Mets go with are pitching well. If the padres play the Mets in the 4/5 you’d avoid one of those teams and maybe even both by the nlcs. Braves might have to start Morton game 1 or 2 if you face them. He’s not good on the road but then again you’d likely get fried or schwallenbach game 4. Civale would be the guy for the brewers or montas. Been better than Ranger but not great more of an issue against a team like the padres or Braves if morton is at home or have to face fried/schwallenbach/sale in a game 4. don’t get me wrong it is a concern. But I was more concerned last year because Aaron Nola was not good. And Sanchez had never pitched in the playoffs and they really didn’t trust him. At least now I know we have Wheeler, Sanchez and Nola is pitching much better than he was last year going to the playoffs. Ranger has issues since he’s come back. Velocity was bad til last game then it was his command and now back to his velocity. However i think today they might have wanted him throwing and not as worried about his velicity. he’s not scheduled to pitch unless there’s a game 4 in the NLDS which would be about 2 weeks away. Concerning cause he’s been basically not very good since coming back but i actually think the two weeks off might be beneficial in getting him 3-4 manageable innings in the nlds
September 27, 20241 yr Don’t get me wrong. I have concerns about Ranger since he’s come back from his back. He’s not been good. His velocity had been down prior to his last start then was his command. Today was velocity again. Frankly, I also think he’s still dealing with back tightness based off some of his tells between batters during his last outing. However, I think today they just wanted him out there throwing and not worrying about his velocity. Don’t over extend him knowing don’t want him re-injuring his back prior to the playoffs. he’s not gonna throw for two weeks. The next time he’s gonna throw is the Wednesday 14 days from now if the Phillies go to a game 4 in the nlds. If they sweep then he wouldn’t be pitching for nearly 17-20 days. Which ultimately that rest might help his back and his velocity. But concerning he’s not been better since coming back.

NL WC is crazy. If Padres hold on to win tonight they clinch the 4 seed. Would make the dbacks 88-72. Mets 87-71 and Braves 87-71 after their games tonight. None of the teams the Mets, Braves and dbacks play the next two nights have anything to play for with being locked into their playoff position. So if the Mets, dbacks and Braves all win then next 2 nights means if the Braves and Mets split that doubleheader they’d both make the playoffs. if one team is swept in the doubleheader and dbacks win the next two nights then the team that’s swept in the DH is out. Chance the dbacks if they split the next 2 games wind up eliminated from the WC race if Braves and Mets win the next two games. As both Mets and Braves would be 89-71 and the dbacks would be 89-73 and lose the tiebreaker to both the Mets and Braves.

We have a chance. We are just sucking right now. Starting pitching is effing things up. Inconsistent bats are killing us every other night. We need to get our sheet together.
