I think you're selling Carl Banks short. Very short. He was damn good. Don't blame him that the guy who got the accolades at OLB was the best player in the history of the sport.

Sorry.  I disagree.   Banks belongs in the Hall of Very Good.  Then again, I have a much higher bar than the actual Hall.

I will also disagree about LT as the greatest player in the history of the sport.  He might be the best rush OLB, but he's not the best player in the history of the game.  Top 10? probably.  Top 5?  Eh... it would be close.   But as far as defenders goes, I'd put Reggie above him, and to show it's not just because of the uniform he wore, I'd even put Deion Sanders ahead of him.  On the offense, Rice would easily be listed above him.  Then you can make the argument for Montana or Brady... take your pick.  Sheer talent at the QB position... maybe goes to Elway.  And as a nod to previous generations since you said the history of the sport, Jim Brown should likely be in the discussion somewhere as should a few others from the further past.

Carl Banks is the equivalent to Clyde Simmons to me.  Clyde benefitted from playing opposite from Reggie and was never anywhere close to as productive without Reggie as he was with him.  Banks also benefitted from having Taylor opposite him.  And, if he wasn't in NY at the same time, likely wouldn't have gotten half of the notoriety he received.

Great, @HazletonEagle is taking the whole back up starting DB group out to Taco Bell to eat.

I don't think letting Kellen Moore leave as 4th best offense can be overstated. Cowboys miss the playoff

I got the Packers making the playoffs and Seahawks winning the division as well.

Love the Steelers winning 12 but would switch Ravens and Browns, back four for Ravens already banged up.

I won't bet against Vrabel and think Titans win the division

I can see all of that. I think Dallas could actually implode. 0-2 start is on the table vs. the NY teams. They have zero depth on the lines too.

Packers are so hard to predict because of the unknowns with Love.

Everyone seems a tad too high on the Jags, but I want to believe in Doug. I think Lawrence is being overhyped.

Translation error there. I meant to say that Taylor was the best OLB in the history of the sport, not the greatest player. Perhaps I could have phrased it better.

Kind of a weird move since Eagles are basically locked into 2 elevations already.

Interesting discussion … parallel to a similar one going on on Freddy and Fitzsimmons.  The prop in their discussion was essentially "where does Patrick Mahomes stand in the GOAT discussion if his next six seasons produce the same results as his first six years?”

Not that weird.  This way they have 18 players who are grateful to the Birds for a PS paycheck.

Mullen and Johnson were already on the team like 2 days ago. I understand the purpose, but the timing is still curious.

@Godfather
@HazletonEagle
@LeanMeanGM
@MillerTime
@Saltpeter
@Shalodeep
@Swoop
@The Blackfish

13-4

 On one hand it would be great to see the Lions pull the upset.  On the other hand don't really want to see other potential top NFC teams pick up wins in games that I had projected as losses.  Hunt for the #1 seed begins week 1.

Pretty sure Lions are winning tonight. Chiefs will start slow like usual and it will hurt 'em tonight. Should win by 10 points. Gonna miss Jones royally.

Honestly, I don't feel Banks ever really lived up to the hype. His draft status had everybody at the time expecting the giants to have the best pair of OLBs in the NFL for years. Banks had 2 very good seasons and they happened when the Giants peaked, which also happened during an extended period of NFC dominance. For a majority of his career, he was more name than production.

I disagree with the last statement, though. I don't think being in NY had much to do with the hype. Also during that era was the biggest hype-machine ever known and his name was John Madden. Don't get mw wrong, I miss those days --- much respect for Madden. But you became a household name if he got on your bandwagon. It didn't matter what market you were playing in (see Brett Favre).

If their offense comes out hot like they did against us week 1 last year then I don't see how the Chiefs can keep up unless Pacheco gives Mahomes just enough help to put on some amazing performance with this low level all around receiving talent for Mahomes to work with tonight.

I expect Lions to be coming out firing. Lions offensive line is a top line. They will score a bunch. And with no Kelce and new tackles on offensive line, Chiefs may have to settle for field goals more than usual. Mahomes will be doing more running around than usual and will try to play hero ball and throw a couple picks.

I was so hoping the Cowboys would desperately back up the Brinks truck late last year or in offseason. Beckham will get hurt again, and is most likely a possession receiver at this point, anyway, with all the injuries and age.
