Neither could the opposing kicker.  I heard it was cold today.

It really wasn’t. I live right outside DC, it was nice today, especially in the sun. Perfect football weather. If it was anything it must have been wind.

Looks like Baun left the WR for Ertz underneath and Reed was flat footed

Nah.  On the TD, Baun need to get more depth and carry the route into the middle of the field.

The rules for the coverage are tweaked given the game situation.  He needed to get into the end zone ASAP.

Think of 4th and 26.  The linebacker stayed in an underneath zone and didn't follow Mitchell down field.  The situation didn't require any coverage in the underneath zone.

Game ending in Maddox’s hands is the cherry on top. Burn the tape and focus on locking down the two seed. Start to taper off Saquon and clinch next week.

I don't see him in coverage

the turnovers were about the only thing the defense did well today. the defense was poor in the red zone (3-4 by commanders), poor on 3rd and 4th down (combined 9-16; 7-13 on 3rd down) and lost containment on Daniels too many times as he ran for 81 yards and picked up 5 firsts with his legs and the eagles had 2 Qb hits all game (1 sack).

You know, usually our backup QB is much worse than you're starting QB so he's going to play worse. Especially when he hasn't played all year. That's typically when your starters should be, you know, trying to help him out. Literally no one will argue that Hurts wouldn't have played better, that's not even the point. Of course he would have played better, he's the starting QB. Putting the blame on a backup after his starters dropped 3 of his passes, 3 of which were game changing, makes no sense. This is just unreal.

Yes, the individual in question will take responsibility.   And everyone else in the locker room should be saying something very similar.   This isn't proof of anything other than the fact that Smith is a standup guy who isn't going to shy away from his personal failure.   Meanwhile, there were plenty of other personal failures.  The defense should be saying similar things, the rest of the offense, and the coaches.

He was the last ball carrier on the kickoff.

A bunch of shotgun runs WITHOUT a running QB is malpractice.

We didn't run anything under center with Pickett. That's not tenable with a QB who is not a threat in the run game OR a fast processor.

Kellen Moore's play calling 100% should be at the top of our concerns. He didn't adjust at all for Kenny Pickett. The silly trick play to Saquon in the red zone. It was a terribly called game.

Smitty should be disappointed because he basically cost us this game. He made some big plays today and the defense overall was bad but if he makes that catch it’s game over. We get to the TMW, we run 3 more plays and they use their final TO. They get the ball with what… 20 seconds left?

I wonder if Smitty was thinking about YAC or the possibility that Kenny P might be serving him up a murder ball - not really excusable either way…

Winning streak we were dominate on 3rd down, not today

Awww, is Smith your favorite player?

Do you have his jersey?

Nope. Way too old to buy jerseys still. I do own a Dawkins and Montgomery however.

As long as all of this is corrected by the time we play in games that actually matter, I won’t sweat it today

I mean he did give him a murder ball earlier in the game… He may be thinking about YAC but that’s a dumb play because at that point he needs to be thinking about securing the ball and the clock.

I don't care about the #1 seed, it's unlikely the Eagles were going to get it. The Lions are not losing to the Niners. The only real way for the Eagles to have gotten the #1 seed was for the Lions to lose vs SF. Because if the Vikings lose today or next week, they'd have nothing to play for week 18. And if they both win, then week 18 decides the 1 seed between them.

I'm more disheartened that a defense we all expected us to carry the Eagles to a deep playoff run gave up 22 4th quarter points and needed a clutch stop, but couldn't get it. I still trust the defense generally, but what the F. And we saw signs of this vs Atlanta and the Jags too. The Jags were driving down the field with ease for the win until Lawrence made an awful throw. Something about the way this defense plays in those spots that's concerning to me. Big picture I care more about that than the #1 seed which likely was not happening anyway.

Meh... when a team is going for it multiple times on 4th down with a QB running all over the place and the starting safety decides he wants to exit the game early being a ahole... ish tends to happen. They had 5 turnovers.... 5.

No he just flat out dropped it. Leave the wondering to Stevie.

The defense seems to have problems with the 2 minute offense

I'm still going to argue that the Saquon ball was a catch. He gathered the ball by the time he got to the ground and effectively Wagner touching him causes Saquon to be down. Kinda shocked that we didn't challenge it.

You have to hold onto it while going to the ground.

I'm really not that upset they lost.  16 straight wins seemed unlikely.  So, they can reset, win against Dallas, rest starters against the Giants, and get a 'bye' of sorts with something to fuel them for the matchup in Round 1 against Washington.   And being the 2 seed, Detroit finally succumbing to their injuries in their first game puts the game for the NFCCG in Philly anyway.   If not, the Eagles get to go play in ideal conditions against the injury riddled Lions.

I'm good.

On the ensuing kickoff.

Picket had hurt ribs. That may explain why he looked extra awful. Either way that wasn’t the real squad today. They’ll be back

Regardless…this team has shown no ability to stop Jayden Daniels.

Can't stop Jayden daniels. Defense records 5 turnovers. Somewhere in there Jayden was stopped. Overdramatic much?

Got to get back on track next week and then yeah everything you’ve said I can absolutely see. Win next week, make week 18 the bye and I can absolutely see Detroit losing with all their injuries. Got to win next week though otherwise we are in trouble.

Turnovers by the QB and 3-16 on 3rd down on offense will do that to a defense.
