He's technically under contract because they set it up so his contract voids 6/2. So he counts toward a roster spot until then, it will void and then they can resign him.

I really don't think they'll part with a 2027 1st round pick unless there is almost unstated, implied extortion that this is the only path that circumvents a tampering investigation. Otherwise, I really think we are looking at a 2027 2nd and a 2028 3rd.

Howie would keep Brown before he moved him for a 2nd and future 3rd. My guess is a 2027 3rd and 2028 1st. WORST case scenario it's a 2027 3rd and 2028 conditional 1st where Brown has to hit a very low bar of games played and/or stats for the pick to go from a 2nd to a 1st.

2023 which was unmitigated disaster after they left CJGJ and Epps walk in free agency and they cheaped out by signing Terrell Edmunds and Justin Evans who were both horrendous. Then of course they traded for Kevin Byard which didn't work out.

2021 and 2022 they gave one year deals to Anthony Harris who was pretty bad. In 2022 they also let Rodney McLeod walk and were supposedly in on Marcus Williams before he signed with the Ravens, and then they ultimately traded for CJGJ in camp.

In 2020 they left Malcolm Jenkins walk and signed Will Parks and I'm pretty sure that was the year they tried to move Jalen Mills to safety.

Before that you would have to go way back to when they had guys like Nate Allen and Jaqwan Jarrett (as you mentioned) and I'm pretty sure they tried to start Macho Harris for a while back in the day but safety has been a major issue off and on over the last several years and with Howie finally coming around on the LB position, S is in the new LB.

Wow. That's why I'm paranoid at safety. You are only as good as your weakest link. Will not be a dominant defense with the safeties currently on squad. Need at least one sure thing or that will bite Howie in the ass like CB2 last year,etc. This team needs a 2024 type defense to have any shot of a Superbowl this year. Last year's version or similar won't cut it.
