Think so? They've kept 25 on the shelf forever

McCoy was drafted here and is the franchise leading rusher. AJ Brown was only here 4 years and asked out. I don't think they will hold it long if at all.

It won't be 2028.

The eagles have an out from Hurts’ contract after the 2027 season, right?

The timing might work out well. Say we get a 2027 3rd and a 2028 1st. I could live with that.

Howie has said he wants to draft potential starters at all points of the draft.

I think he's come to realize that backup types (ready to play) in the 4th to 6th rds have limited value b/c you can pick up guys picked in that range with a couple years of NFL experience off the waiver wire. Which he now does on a regular basis, both in February and August.

And you can often trade a 4th or 5th for a NFL near starter with 1-2 years of control, instead of drafting someone, spending a year or two developing them then dress them for 2 years as deep backups.

Yup. That may be one of Howie's better innovations. It's not devaluing depth. It's just re-sourcing it.

Who is better depth anyway? A 5th round pick that sank that low because they are a middling prospect, or a flawed vet with real NFL playing experience on a 1-year prove-it deal? The fall off from having rookie 3-7th round picks that are "ready to back up" versus far more talented players with extended learning curves...probably not worth going for the boring picks.

These are the perks of a creative GM with job security. Some potentially great GM's probably get mired in survival strategies. Some GMs with job security stagnate (Jerry Jones). And we are lucky to have someone that leverages the security.

Howie is willing to sell off his mistakes, break down his declining rosters knowing that he'll benefit from the assets he gets, take risks, screw up, learn from it.

Lurie deserves a pat on the back for this...but there's also a component of luck. Most people who settle into that kind of job for an extended period aren't constantly tinkering for the better.

FA/trades for depth and holes and every single draft pick for big talent. Well, aside from our first rounder, but I digress.

Stone tablets were much less expensive back in the day, technology just costs too much, online books, laptops, tablets, labs, etc.

I can get a computer these days for about what my "scientific” Texas Instruments calculator cost me back then. Of course, my keyboard was an electric typewriter, which my folks thought was extravagant. Renting books online today is cheaper than books were for me.

Cost to send my kids to college was more than 10 times more than mine.

It's truly crazy. I think part of it is extras but it's not like those are free. It's even worse with law schools. My alma mater's average cost of attendance is over $60,000 a year. I paid about half of that for 3 years of total cost.

Only if it includes a 2027 2nd round pick and a roster player. Waiting two years for compensation on a WR1 would be unacceptable, IMO.

What's wrong with 2028?

Less value, 2027 is loaded, Patriots a mess right now, Patriots playing a first place schedule, and coming off SB loss where teams typically don't fare as well the next season. It must be 2027. And it will be. Patriots have no leverage. They want the player and they drafted no real WRs. If they don't get AJ Brown they're kinda SOL.

The trainwreck potential of the 2026 Patriots makes a 2028 pick way less appealing. Their 2027 1st could be a game changer for us.

Pats continue the media trolling.

Good read

Let's assume for a second that Hurts isn't the guy. That may offend the sensibilities of the pro-Hurts crowd, but just entertainment for a minute just to arm-chair GM it.

I'm not incredibly excited to watch this team either earn-in or trade-in the resources to get to a top 5 pick for a QB. I assume the common sentiment is start with the AJ picks and try to roll up the resources to trade up as high as possible.

We all know Howie knows how to compile a talented roster. Teams with talented rosters that find a way to get their starting QB through alternative pathways tend to just be better off these days. (Eagles, 49ers when they were better, Seahawks).

I don't know if it's Mckee (that last game was bad, but I loved him as a prospect and his very little exposure before that), this new guy from NDSU that I don't really like, or some 2027 QB that can be had after 20 or so.....but it would be really nice to address that position without a top 5 pick. That's a huge competitive advantage.

Probably will be if we demand a first. And a third in 2027 i figure

roll

By that point Aj will be old and have torn the team apart so probably not the worst thing but I suspect they get a pick next year also. Maybe a 3 nexy year and a 1 in 2028

As New Mexican, I am rooting for him. Yeah, he doesnt have the size for the position but dude can play. Some people say they dont like his attitude but it is true Albuquerque ie Johnny Tapia. Hope he balls out and makes a roster. He may be a career backup but I can see him being a guy that comes in and wins games.

This was the most performative nonsense ever. He could only go to therapy on the 3rd day of the draft? That was the only session open? So incredibly dumb and insincere of him and the team

It's a mental health issue now, so we're all jerks for noticing I guess.
