Carter being extended is probably the next shoe to drop.

Why sign him now when it will cast them more to sign him next year? No reason for Dallas to change their strategy.

Good. Hopefully he follows the Jordan Davis mold. I don't know if he'll stay healthy or get to what he was down the stretch in 2024, but that was something special and was a big part of that SB run.

"I think anytime things don’t go well, and I don’t want to sound like I’m on an interview, but it’s the truth — it’s execution, it’s calling the right plays at the right time, and not running bad plays into bad defenses. I mean, it ain’t that hard — that’s pretty much it.”

How did KP last the entire season :(

Dont you know and understand it was all Hurts's fault!!!!

The 2027 QB class already takes a hit.

Officially official

No rush to extend JC. Want to see If he holds up this year with those shoulders and plays hungry and disciplined. Took a step back last year.

That'd probably describe me. Blankenship could get the occasional turnover and was a willing tackler, but I don't think he's very good in coverage and he's not a fluid athlete -- generally travels in a straight line.

Is he a better player than Sydney Brown? Yes.

Better than Epps? Yes.

He's replaceable for sure; we'll have to find out how easily.

Are you happy with the current safeties on the roster?

That last part is more about Hurts than Patullo

Gotta think/hope the Eagles were prepared for Johnston leaving like they were with Rosenberg.

It was already announced a month or two ago so it’s not a huge surprise. They have been really good from a FO perspective of building and maintaining a good pipeline. I doubt anyone will notice a difference.

Elaborate please

Howie himself is expert at contracts and cap management so he’ll know talent. Gotta think if they wanted to keep this guy they could have paid up

I like Mukuba, and the other position is 'open'. Fortunately, the next big game isn't for another 4 1/2 months.

I feel fairly confident Howie will find a player at comparable performance for less than half the cost.

2028 for a pick that won't be as good as 27 doesn't excite me unless there is another high pick with it. Otherwise, screw that.

Calling the right plays at the right time = Patullo

Not running bad plays into bad defenses = Hurts

Hurts is the one surveying the defense at the line and running plays. Eagles run a lot of read and spread option concepts. By "bad defenses” I’m assuming Stoutland means running plays into unfavorable matchups based on what the defense is showing pre-snap or immediately after. I don’t know how Patullo could run bad plays into bad defenses when the play is called before they know what the defense appears to be doing.

That's why I said months and months ago to keep expectations low on the return for AJ Brown. I had Eagles receiving equivalent value to a high 2nd and a 4th for him. So a 2028 1st sounds right, being it's 2 years out. I am just hoping we are not left with a TO situation. The guy wants out and a new contract. Not playing here next year, willingly. Don't think Hurts wants him here either.

Is he surveying the defense at the line when the offense is lining up with like 6 seconds on the play clock?

That’s a different argument and doesn’t really apply when reading post snap

Personally, I am completely cool with it being a 2028 first rounder, for at least three reasons:

1) The notion that an earlier year pick has more value than a later year pick is illogical, and frankly just silly.

2) There is actually reason to believe there is a window right now where a 2028 pick may be more valuable than a 2027 pick, because players are staying in college longer because of the NIL money they are making. That is the reason most cited for why this year's draft class was weak, and that will probably remain true for next year's draft, but eventually, probably around 2028, the number of players leaving will catch up with the number that have been able to defer leaving.

3) There is reason to believe the Patriots' picks in 2028 will be higher than in 2027 -- Maye can extend his contract after this coming season, so he will start taking up more of the salary cap, plus the Patriots will be another year removed from a team talented enough to make the Super Bowl. (And I'm not buying the "Vrabel weakened by the adultery thing, Patriots 2026 train wreck" theory that seems to be going around.)

I don't mind waiting until '28 if it's a first round pick. I'd much prefer that over something like a second and fourth in '27.

Carter - yes

Smith - no
