June 4Jun 4 Besides having more depth in several positions and an upgrade at OC, the reason the offense will ɓe better is last year was a Superbowl hangover. Team was spent and worn out from the previous year of countless tush pushes and a short offseason to heal up. Team will simply be refreshed this year. Add to that, to not have the dark cloud of AJ Brown on the team, the team unity, energy and vibes will be much better right off the bat. And having a top player (supposed captain) who doesn't want to be there, who poisons the sideline and locker room and dogs it on the field on running plays and passing plays will be an addition by subtraction. I see Hurts benefitting the most in particular. But really just giving other talented players more targets & opportunities like Goedert, Devanta & Barkley (in the passing game), will up their engagement levels and overall morale. No longer have to force-feed anyone. Team was 2 dimensional in passing game with either AJ or Devanta getting the ball only. Goedert was criminally underutilized for years. And depth receivers were utterly ignored and not accounted for.

June 4Jun 4 I anticipate the offense to look different, but still with elements we've seen in the past. I think the main thing this year for Mannion is to get his terminology and foundational concepts installed and then build off that throughout the season.Year 1 they are going to lean heavily on the run game, but the passing will get better as the season goes and the team gets more comfortable with the concepts. Lots of outside zone, jet motion, and play action boots.I think Howie has done an incredible job timing all of this with contracts. This first season under Mannion is mostly foundation building and installing the scheme with the players they have now. Next off season they have a ton more flexibility and the roster will start to reflect the scheme.

I just think the second half of his career exposed him. The whole "let Russ cook" thing started around 2020 and each year was worse. Ended up on 4 teams in a 6 year span after that. He also doesn't have great accolades. He has a lot of pro bowls but only 1 second team all pro. Just feels like his success was very reliant on the situation around him.

As for the rookies, Bell has already taken snaps with the 1s, Micah Morris is a good prospect to develop and hopefully good depth, and I'm interested in seeing Jaeden Roberts who started games for Alabama. Hopefully that brings good depth, but O line starters health is a concern.We have to also remember they still have some top talent in the league in Smitty, Barkley and Goedert and Tank Bigsby is a very good #2 RB, he was underutilized by the coaches last year. Tank was a player not even on the week 1 roster, added in September.I always approach the season with a balance of optimism and questions/concerns about how the changes will work. There is a lot of change with coaching, scheme and personnel on offense for Mannion, Grizzard and staff to put it all together and make it work. It's also going to be an evaluation of returning players to see if they have a continued future in this new offense and what other personnel changes will be made.
