I'm sorry, but this is just nuts. For all of Jalens flaws, you at least know he's going to be at his best when it counts the most.

Dak is the very opposite. Looks great when it matters the least and is a pure choke artist in big moments.

Or Allen, who does his best Favre imitation when the chips are down, flash some big plays then blow the game.

Lane doesn't need camp. He also figures to play half the snaps, so whomever the backup RT is better get ALL the work with the 1's in camp.

Especially if the backup is a rookie, which is how it looks now. Lane is going to need some snaps in practice given it's a new offense but perhaps not too many.

Disappointing that Williams seems still KC with the threes and now Hinton

Looks like Johnson, Kendall, and Bell are the three locks for the bench. Not sure anyone has taken a spot.

Speaking of Shipley who has not been all good as a receiver out of back field. Swift has been doing well in Chicago on rushing and receiving. Did the FO make the wrong choice on keeping a RB3?

Interested to see how Lampkin progresses in camp. With a wrestling background, he could be effective to battle and control the DL coming in.

Swift went to the bears to be a starter and got starter money he wasn't getting that here to be a rb3

Yeah, same sort of hyper athletic pass catcher. I do think Pitts was a better blocker coming out of college, even though it was a weakness of his. Stowers, from what I saw of him, is properly useless as a blocker.

Another Calc?

What he needs is time, coaching, and being built up. He wasn't drafted in the second round for what he is right now but for what they think he can become. With his frame he can add 10+ pounds easily, getting up over 250. They'll work on twitching him up and he has good speed when he gets going even now. Consider Jalyx Hunt, who was drafted in the third round, with much muttering in the blog. It took them about a year and a half to build him but now he's a beast. The Eagles have a number of TEs to fill in for the moment and they can spot Stowers; Mundt in particular will get a lot of action as a blocking TE.

Perhaps, but to continue your comparison, the "problem” with Hunt coming out of college wasn’t his skill set. The projection was simple: add some muscle, and with his movement skills he’d be a unique pass rusher/pass coverage/run defender combination.

I don’t see this same type of projection with Stowers. Adding some muscle will help, but I just don’t think he has the mentality or natural strength to ever be even a mediocre blocker. He truly looks lost to my eye in every way when he attempts to block.

Isn't that to be expected from a QB?

Lane has averaged a little less than 13 games played per season throughout his career - only playing a full season THREE times. Between his mental and physical health and the roids thing, this is nothing new.

I can't take your drunk ass avatar seriously.

Why does the kicker (statistically one of the worst in the league last season) only kick 7 FGs in the entire practice? Why not 50? He's not a football player. Put that runt through the gauntlet until his muscle memory comes back.

He's a delicate flower.

A billionaire’s Calc.

Stowers is a true one of one type of athlete. If he ends up being an all-pro with 1,500 yard receiving seasons, it wouldn’t totally shock me... Not that this is an expectation that we should have, just that he’s so athletic that his upside as a pass catcher is to that level.

Lane Johnson was a QB, so not necessarily. It’s kind of a case by case thing.

Salary cap musing:

There is no cap or luxury tax on signing/extending "your players." You home grow stars, you don't get penalized for it and you can keep them all.

Every team has a "free agency allotment." You sign away a player in FA, that contract, like a cap hit, has a number for each year of the contract that irreversibly counts against your allotment. If you extend that player to another contract (either before conclusion of the initial contract or at the very end), their original contract counts against your allotment in the aforementioned fashion. But their years beyond that...they count as one of "your guys" again as an internal extension. So if you sign someone to 5 years $20mm per year....that never goes away, no matter what you do. But after 5 years, if you sign them to another contract, it doesn't count. If you extend or cut them after 3 years, you still get the 5 year 20mm hit. Beyond the 5 years, the extension is capless, as they are one of "your guys."

Trades...well...trading parties can negotiate/toggle who gets stuck with the allotted FA dollars, which will impact compensation. Trading home grown players with expiring deals from small to large market teams...who could then extend a "our guy" contract free of the cap allotment is a potential loophole. But you could just stipulate that any extensions of deadline deals counts against the allotted FA $$$.

It's a capless system that still allows teams to push the limit on player salaries. But it completely eliminates the ability of one team to go rogue and buy a roster.

Why do you hate capitalism and the free market Karl?

Ertz wasn't exactly a killer blocker.

For the safety position, Blankenship was playing at a replacement level last year so we either get continued replacement level production or someone steps up. Hopefully Michael Carter proves to be a quality starter. Epps is perfectly fine but will inevitably get hurt, if Carter can start next to Epps it gives Mukuba a couple more weeks to get comfortable and rotate in.

If safety gets figured out the entire league better start shaking in their boots

I’m wondering about Ojukwu. He’s been with the twos a lot. They have had him at both tackle spots and G. With Hinton sliding to the threes, he may take his place. Jordan has been at RG with the twos a lot, (Majors getting reps at G and C like Kendall). But Morris has also been camped at RG. So are Jordan and Morris versatile enough for the 9/10 OL. Not unusual for the Birds 9/10 OL to be active so those positions may be developmental. That may mean Morris and Williams. Think it comes down to who Howie thinks makes it to the PS.

Need to listen to the Clay presser. All indications from what he said are that the three specialist are kicking on the other field when the other positions are position practicing. Kempski’s TC kicking stats really seem driven by the STs practices, when the whole team is practicing.

No way Makuba isn't starting week 1 in favor of Epps or Carter.

Maybe we didn't miss out on Mcdaniel. Think about it for a minute. Miami was a cluster f with 0 accountability and now herbert has his GF at training camp? Is he even serious about winning at this point?

I would think Ojukwu would be more of a practice squad type player. He's 27 and although he has starting experience. I would have to think Michael Jordan might be a better potential keeper. He's 28 but has more experience as a starter.
