Meh, hope is involved in anything NFL to a point. Even if you trade for a player. You have to hope he doesn't get injured, hope he fits your system, hope he doesn't destroy your locker room etc. The draft is the best way to fill your roster and fill in the rest with f/a or trades. It's a combination.

Indeed. And dismissing the draft and whatever else as mere hope is nonsense and defeatism. We pay people a lot of money to assess players, their ability, drive, and character. Those guys don't always get it right and then the question becomes, Why? Self-assessment is a big part of the job. Hope has little to do with that.

I didn't see this talked about in here: Sources: Cowboys, Quinnen Williams reach 3-year, $105.9M deal

Feels like an overpay Jerry

No one playing a sport for a living is worth anywhere close to that

Playing conditions could conceivably be things that would follow a player from city to city, dome or otherwise.

Playing conditions could be a personal thing, a team thing, or an organizational thing.

What cpuld possibly be the playing conditions for a kicker that are impacting his game? What team or organizational thing? You're the biggest Jake Elliott apologist on this board, unable to accept reality that while he was the best kicker in Eagles history, he is no longer anywhere close to a good kicker. He is in fact the worst in the league.

I will be stunned if he does not make this team and dress on game day. His weight is about 285-290, which is more than Aaron Donald weighed for most of his career and roughly what Jason Kelce weighed. Short on an interior lineman is not a bad thing. He’s always the low man and low man wins. I worry about Dickerson, about his health and how well he can move at this stage of his career. If he can’t go and be effective I can see Lampkin at LG. In the OZ/Stretch system I think Lampkin can be more effective than a banged up Dickerson. Sorry to be iconoclastic.

Now you're on to a whole new subject. Go ahead and talk about weather if you want to so badly. No need to get upset.

Like DiBona, you seem to be honed in on "weather" conditions, which was not the word Jake used.

Here is the exact quote from Jake

We played in a lot of really windy games last year, so um it was it was a tough year conditionwise and I think um the more I can put myself in those situations and try to try to counter that. How can I hit a better ball in the elements?

Um you know, I'm uh fortunate enough to play in the in the great Northeast and um have to deal with stuff like that.

So, um I think a lot of the times when I'm going out in the offseason this year, I'm I'm figuring out what's the hardest wind I can kick into today and and just refining that that contact, that ball flight, and um trying to improve.

So yeah it sounds like he's 100% blaming it on the weather.

He looks close

Bad job by DiBona in that tweet.

As for Jake, that seems like a very unfortunate thing for us to hear.

However, I still think theres a big long snapper issue and it may just be his tactful way of not throwing his teammates under the bus.

Knowing that the long snapper issue exists is also the only rational explanation as to why the team is sticking by supposedly the worst kicker in the league so strongly.

Why do you think Devonta can have a hamstring injury, but Lemon gets one and automatically gets blamed for not staying in shape in the offseason?

Can they just place big fans near it to simulate windy days and have him practice kicking in that? I'm still amazed they don't kick in TC as much as I thought they would

What has kept Elliott on the team was that it was a prohibitive dead cap hit to let him go. Also, took a pay cut this season which saved them some money. They justified keeping him for the playoffs and his experience in cold weather. Unfortunately, they have been kinda stuck with him. But think he gets the boot if he starts off slow this season. Maybe they wait to see who gets cut this preseason and stash someone. That's the hope here.

Nobody is sweating the little bit of dead money a kicker contract would create if they think that kicker is costing them games. Reality was, probably long snapper, as well as the QB and offense not being good enough. All that talent on offense should never be losing because of a missed XP or 2, or a long FG...

All wrong. But you can believe that.

This is someone using available statistics so there's room for error but it seems pretty on par with what I was expecting.

Roughly half of first round picks are "successful", the barometer for this person's research was making the pro bowl, a good part of that is because of success rate in the top 10. So even picking in the first round, you have about a 50% chance of drafting a truly successful player.

Hope.

So are you just mad at...the entire NFL draft process? Or you just don't want them drafting WRs specifically outside the top 10?

Jon Jones injury might create an opening for crappy Mac McWilliams to make the team. That sucks.

Foles in 2013 had his 27 TD and 2 INT season in 13 games, and was considered a great season. 2,891 yards, 64% completion.

Hurts last year had 24 TD, 2 INT, 3,224 yards, 64.8% completion in 16 games. Plus 421 rush yards and 8 rush TDs. And people say he sucked. No, it wasn't good enough and yes we want better - for the entire offense as well. But just interesting to compare.

It was really 10 games for Foles. I don't know if anyone thought it was a great season. It was more like a promising start. He was also a 2nd year QB that had just become a starter. He was on a team with a rookie Head Coach that everyone thought was an offensive genius.
