I don't think drafting a player because he looks like the best replacement for AJ is the right choice.I also feel having Darius Cooper on the roster is/was a factor in the thinking about succession to AJ. The question there is whether Cooper is a better X prospect than the WRs who were on the Board in the Draft?

August 21Aug 21 Lemon seems to be on a similar path to Cooper his rookie year. Coop missed most training camp then stunk in game 3 of preseason. Took him 4 weeks to get on field. That result would be great for Lemon.

But it does concern me that he’s had hamstring issues since the time he’s gotten to the Eagles. I don’t think it’s long term but i do think it’ll hurt him getting into the flow of the scheme and offense early as a rookie. Imo you’re getting a guy who i think is a purely slot wide receiver. Don’t know if his athleticism or speed translate to the outside which is fine if wicks steps into the other outside role along side smith. Also it is great if he winds up being St Brown like the lions have. However, the lions also didn’t spend a first round pick to get him. He was a fourth round pick.I understand why the Eagles did it because they felt the value was there. And I’m not gonna hate them for it or criticize them for it. However, I do think Justin Jefferson who had strong share of he’s only a slot had more upside to play the outside than lemon. The stowers pick i really didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it. I understood why they did it. His athleticism and his ability if he learns to be a decent blocker could be tremendous upside. But at the same time, he’s a high risk high reward guy. Imo he’s either going to be a boom or bust type guy. I could see him making it or being like JJAW where he gets the ire of the fans. The Eagles don’t have much if any depth tight end their roster entering 2027 offseason besides him. So I would assume they add in free agency and one in the middle of the draft. However, if they take that tight end high in the 2027 draft, I think it kind of tells you what they saw this year in terms of his development and where they think he is Heading into the offseason. Reasonably I thought it always was just going to be a redshirt kind of season for him and year 2 is where you kinda hope he makes a jump. But then again I thought Jaylx hunt was gonna take two years to get to a point where he could be solid and he’s already blossoming into maybe a star prior to that. So I’m curious to see that position and what they do next off-season.I wasn't a fan of the pick but that's because I didn't want a WR

It’s been tried in college and with the eagles.Edge rusher specs make someone a plus plus athlete for an off ball LB. Issue is his instincts are average and that makes him average, even despite the great athleticism.Edge is an explosive athlete downhill position. Off ball lb is an instinct read and react position.Campbell paired up with Baun is good. Baun can be the field general while Campbell just has to worry about his own task at hand.

Since then, I’ve actually felt better about Lemon. Injury sucks, but he’s athletic enough and his personality/makeup seems much better than what I saw at the combine. Can see a DeJean like trajectory. Also I think Jalen might end up throwing hospital balls across the middle this year, and Lemon is tough enough to eat those hits and still catch the ball.Stowers seemed like a guy you’d have to change your offense to feature him and he’d still be meh. Didn’t get the pick then, still don’t.

August 21Aug 21 39 minutes ago, NCiggles said:I don't follow your argument. I think the question in the draft was which receiver was the best talent and would fit the offense. Lemon was the consensus best WR on the board at the pick where he was made regardless of traits. He was the consensus BPA on many boards when he was picked. He fits the scheme. You just said the Eagles had found an X in Wicks. Wicks, I agree, doesn't have AJ's talent. They do not need a WR that can beat man coverage in the same way they had to rely on AJ to beat it. Wicks will not be running the same vertical go routes that AJ was running. My question is who is the X receiver they should have drafted that as a replacement for AJ? I don't think Howie made an objectively bad choice. He had a process and stuck to their board. It may or may not pan out but I feel confident in their process at this point. It was not some reach pick.I think Wicks is the answer they came up with, I have my doubts he's going to be a good answer (speed, hands). Size, speed and good hands is transcendent, it's not just about beating man coverage.Who would've I taken at X... Stribling early or Bryce Lance later on. For a slot only type, I'd be fine with Wetjen who went in the 4th. Where we were picking in the 1st, I would've been excited to grab Thieneman. Iheanachor made sense to me, or Malachi Lawrence.

But they were gonna have to take a wide receiver in one of the first two rounds (maybe 3) based off what they had. I just like Cooper better. He was majority slot in 2025, but he had played on the outside prior to that. I think there’s a better chance that he could play inside and outside then lemon. That said I can’t blame them if they valued lemon higher as a prospect. But to me, I was more ready for them to trade out of 23 and get more draft picks moving down. The pick i liked the most was actually the bell pick just due to his size. Plus it gave them another option with cam williams, Hinton in the competition behind lane and mailata.

Three Cs behind Cam. Lampkin is learning C. Kendall and Majors are learning G as is Hinton, who grew up in an NFL family. Morris slipped in the draft because he is a G only but extremely athletic. He’s learning both sides. Howie brought in Jordan, who has starting experience in the NFL. Fred Johnson can play G too. At T, Williams has the tools but is extremely young. All have technique refinement issues. Many are learning other positions. (Only Williams and Jordan seem to be playing their established positions of the backups). This year, Howie added Bell, who seems to be performing very well. He added Morris, who is extremely athletic for his size. The hardest thing to do is change muscle memory. I don’t put much value in the Beats practice evaluations despite gobbling up all the TC/PS news. I suspect that there is a lot of thinking to do the technique right. (See Fangio’s comments about J Campbell, for example). I don’t know about Vrabel but Nick had the relationship with Stefanski so they would meet ahead of time to ask certain challenges for the players in the joint practices. Now Day 3 picks are a gamble but I like the Day 3 guys Howie has gambled on.As to Milton v Landon. Milt gives lots of OL fits because of his speed and leverage. But I am not going to read a lot into that.Look at Steen. He looked bad his first year and is beginning to show good results. To your steen point, also can look at seumalo. He couldn’t win the starting job his 1st two years here. Then he finally got the chance year 3 and he became a very solid/good starting OG for us.

These guys end up lining everywhere along the LOS. When we line up 2x2, there are two receivers in the slot. Either Brown or Smith were regularly in the slot last season. The notion of redundancy at WR/TE doesn't apply much anymore.

They both seem to be reaches because that team was in need of a WR. Neither one of them stand out on film or look to project well on the outside in the NFL. Glad I can help.

The last 10 years it's been Corey Coleman, Dede Westbrook, James Washington, Jerry Jeudy, Ja'Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, Jordan Addison, Jalin Hyatt, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Travis Hunter. You have basically two studs, two big disappointments and one still unknown they are going to ruin by having him play DB. The rest is trash.Tbh McMillan should’ve won that award over Travis Hunter. He was the best WR in the country that year. Hunter had more tds cause Colorado was a much better team but mcmillain was the best overall wr (had more yards and high yards per catch as Hunter had more tds and receptions but also played with a better QB). Hunter was better overall player as he played cb and wr

Frankly i wanted to trade out of 23 and move down to get more picks as i thought we had holes at safety, TE (depth this year but long term no starter), WR, OT, potentially OG as Dickerson with the whole retirement thing worried me and eventually 2nd corner as woolen was signed for a year. With cooper harder time knowing what cooper will or won’t be cause the jets are a dysfunctional mess. that coaching staff is clueless so they might ruin him regardless and I’m guessing probably aren’t helping his development.
