I really don’t see AJ being happy at that point playing on just $4 million guaranteed with nothing committed to him long-term. The eagles were unlikely committing more money to AJ at 30 so their line of demarcation was always likely 2027 offseason where they’d move on. It just happened a year earlier and they likely got better compensation now than a year from now given Aj wanting an extension, more wear and tear and potentially becomes a bigger issue.
Monday at 04:05 PM2 days I think the guaranteed money/extension gets resolved before he plays one snap for the Pats. That is probably his main motivation for leaving here in the 1st place. Saw the writing on the wall and wants to secure the bag. He is likely not worth $32M a year going forward. Pats are desperate and are all in with AJ and won't give up a 1st rounder without straightening out the money ASAP and making sure he isn't a malcontent. In my head, the line of demarcation was always this offseason because AJ wasn't going to be a lame duck player giving it his all with little guaranteed money left the following season. He already shut down last year. And Eagles would want to secure solid draft compensation before this ticking time bomb exploded.
