Thats one way to look at it. Its like buying an expensive car, driving it a few years, and selling it for nearly as much as you bought it for. So in the end you can say you owned a corvette for only 5,ooo dollars for instance. Thats nice. But if the market dictates that your corvette actually appreciated and you sell it for less than you paid for, you havent maximized the value. So, thats the negative aspect which exists as well.

In this case, AJ isnt worth more than we paid initially, but you should be able to get more than just a future 1st. I see no reason to accept less than his value. The price for Waddle dictates that AJ Brown is unquestionably worth more than just 1 future 1st and nothing else.

Howie is good at his job. If other teams valued Brown as much as they did Waddle he would get traded for as much as Waddle did. The market itself dictates Brown's value and considering there were only two teams who ever seriously got involved despite Howie having several months to work a deal I think the market spoke pretty loudly and we are lucky to be getting a first. There was a lot of talk earlier in the off-season that the Eagles wouldn't get a first round pick. Either way I will take four prime years of AJ Brown and a SB win for the overall cost of a 3rd round pick any day of the week. To be fair I am not jumping for joy and calling it some amazing deal to get a 2028 first for Brown. I was hoping for that and a 2027 third but under the circumstances I think Howie did a decent job.

I think there will be more to the deal when it is announced.

I really hope you are right. Even something like a 3rd/5th round pick swap in the Eagles favor would be nice.

Boutte or Woodson, and/or a pick swap would make be happy.

Even just a player, or just a pick swap is solid enough.

Just a future first, very underwhelming.

Woodson would be buttercream icing on that cake. Wanted him in the draft. He would be a very welcome addition to the safety discussion.

AJ deactivated his Twitter months ago during the season, after his chat with Lurie.

He's still on Instagram but rarely posts and nothing controversial.

Is he gone yet? I have a colonoscopy at 9am so would like to get rid of at least one pain in the ass prior to getting the other one! And when you're reading this I'm probably running back to the toilet....whoever created Suprep should be killed!

Hopefully @olsilverhair isn’t the one in charge of your procedure. He did @hputenis colonoscopy… no gloves, no anesthesia, and a missing set of car keys

I thought that was just called a normal Friday for them?

What will WIP talk about once AJ is traded?

And will an X handle called MikesMomma1234 claim they have the scoop?

Understood, this is just the one downside of how Howie does contracts. It’s beneficial long term if everything is great but he kind of backs himself into a corner if the guy sucks (Huff) or wants out (Brown).

False. Whenever I make this point I'm told there is no downside.

Accurate reporting from Schefter there

Getting a 1st round pick is nice. But getting it 2 years later still brings down the value of this deal. The fact you have nothing to show for this trade for 2 years is a hit. Unless you trade that pick for present value, which I don't believe will happen. At least not right away. I was reading this board the last year and a half. At first, almost everyone here thought a 1st and 3rd (and maybe even a 2nd) at least. I believe that it will come in lower than that. It already has, if you are getting the 2028 pick. By default. At this point it's a total unknown. Also, can see this being a conditional pick along the lines of the Wentz trade. Maybe based on health and percentage of games played or snaps played.

On top of it, most in here thought he would not get traded til after 2026 season. Nope!!

With the Brown trade Eagles will likely have 8-9 picks in the top 100 between the 2027and 2028 drafts (own picks, NE pick, comp picks). That's excellent options and flexibility for Howie.

I'm not sure, though, how it's any different (less negative) if the money was all paid toward the previous salary cap years for a player that sucks or becomes disgruntled. You pay what you pay and you live with the ramifications for a set number of salary cap (years).

In a way, this helps Howie recover more compensation in a potential trade because the potential trade partner takes less of a hit to their cap. If They had to absorb more of the contract, we would get less in return.

Because it's guaranteed money. If the bonuses were smaller and the base salary was larger it's a lot easy to show him the door. Financially, all the risk is placed on the organization because they are betting he sees entirety of his contract.

And when the entire roster is paid with almost entirely future $$$, you don't have any other levers to pull (I.E., a restructure on a franchise player) to minimize the impact.

And if nothing happens

Idk but for some reason I think of Dave Spadaro on the oldschool boards and how it’d be off with his head LOL

Can the Eagles announce the deal at 4.01pm or do they have to show any pretense that the deal wasn’t "agreed” until after June 1st?

A new Josina Mad Libs just dropped.

This whole song and dance is stupid. It makes no sense for the NFL to hold up these teams saying or leaking that the trade is agreed upon but cannot be made official until June 1 for salary cap purposes.

These teams aren’t haggling today. It’s done. It’s been done.

I don't even notice missing keys anymore. It has to get to the "mason jar" or "volleyball" sized items for the balloon knot to feel a tingle.
