EMB Blog: 2026 Regular Season (Part 1)

Philly fans have always had a love/hate relationship with their qb1. If there are certain members that discuss it too much put them on ignore.

The blog itself has always had a local bar feeling where we discuss many subjects (not politics or religion usually). There are other topics being discussed and many very knowledgeable posters (I'm not one of them) to learn from and get into intelligent conversations with. Discuss topics with them and ignore what you don't want to talk about.

Though I miss when the thread wasn't an 'everything' thread and nonEagles games were discussed in their respective sub forums. The other subforums are pretty much dead now

The blog has been an "everything" thread for as long as I can remember

I'll be a bit disappointed if the titans score 20 or more, they're terrible

I go back in the Blog to its first year … 2005, and it has always been an everything thread. Battle of Gettysburg especially, but all sorts of Civil War stuff, smoking and grilling foods, road trip highlights.

The Simmons comment is actually funny. I think anyone who has watched Hurts enough knows that when he gets outside of the pocket he’s actually a worse passer. But when he’s within it he’s very effective and ranks at the top near the core top four QBs over the past couple of years. If I were a defensive player, I’d want to make him "not play QB” but what do I know.

I missed the Simmons comment. Can someone repost it?

PHI - 27

TEN - 13

Smith leads PHI in receiving in yards and gets a TD.

Anthony Hill leads TEN in tackles with 10+, he’s going to be a good one in the league for a long time.

Unrelated, I’m setting the over/under for WAS offense @ DAL at 28 and I’m taking the over.

Today the Battle of Chickamauga begins, tomorrow Longstreet falls upon a massive gap accidentally opened in the Union line and exploits it with 8 brigades of his Gettysburg veterans.

Agree.

But, I can foresee a situation, in which the Oilers get one of those "back door”, 4th quarter, meaningless TDs. Which would make the final score something like 33-21 Birds.

Civil War dorky nerd stuff is…….actually cool. 🙃🏄

"We need to make Jalen Hurts be a QB. Stop his runs, make sure Hurts doesn't get out of the pocket and make plays." - Jeffrey Simmons via ESPN.

There’s the whole quote. The media likes to use the first sentence as a caption. It’s not as disrespectful as a lot are making it out to be - but there’s a little something there. However, I feel that’s exactly how we should be treating Caleb Williams and ANY QB who is a threat escape the pocket and make huge runs.

Being in the Western theater, a lesser known fact.

The Big10 makes a super conference, and then doesn’t play each other for 3 weeks. September preseason mode at multiple levels. At least the SEC is lurching into gear today.

TBF the Big10 had 3.5 huge out of conference games last week. 1.5 big match ups vs the SEC. When it was scheduled Oregon vs ok st was 4.5…ended up being that way too.

I figure since they have like 18 games in the conference, they can just start it up sooner. PSU going Marshall/Temple/Buffalo seems like a lengthy tune up. Yes, there’s some good exhibitions here and there (TX v OSU, OR vs OklaSt, Iowa v Iowa St), but it is mostly dreck and intentionally so.

Why is it called a "blog?"

goeagles99 (Tommy Lawlor), who created it way back when, started out by writing article type posts (much as he does now on igglesblitz.com) that would lean more toward education rather than the focused (often short) rants that were the (more or less) regular postings on TATE. He felt that the complexity of NFL football also was conducive to discussions that would evolve from the OP’s focus, so that there would be a "fabric” rather than individual threads.

He also chose to put the word Blog in the thread title to deal with the (in my opinion) rather aggressive and intrusive moderation of threads. The Mods at that time, with guidance from Dave Spadaro came down hard on comments in TATE threads that strayed from the OP’s topic. They wanted changes of topic to be put into their own thread. It was heaven for @Mike030270. The MODs resisted at first, but Tommy’s strong relations with the Eagles’ administration caused the MODs to back off

The Blog functioned very well that way until the time when a poster named Douglas704 arrived. Doug was very knowledgeable, but he had a strong desire to be the only voice of the Blog. Tommy’s original collaborative education mission was an anathema to Doug. He wanted to both pontificate and dominate the airwaves. His number of posts (the EMB reported the post counts for each thread and all the posters in each thread) was more than double the number of the next closest poster, and probably more than the next three posters combined. The result was that the Blog wasn’t attractive to a lot of the original participants, and they left. Eventually Tommy threw up his hands in the air and created Igglesblitz.com.

I’m sure others here will have more to add, but that’s my (highly biased) answer to your question.

Reporters like to make a storyline out of anything.

After the season last year there were a few interviews with some defensive players from other teams that specifically said their goal was to stop at the Eagles running game first and make Jalen hurts beat them as a quarterback not a runner. Same thing.

It's not rocket science honestly, our passing game was atrocious last year. So why wouldn't they continue to do that this year? They did a week one just this time Jalen made enough plays to expose them

It worked against Michael Vick 2004 when he was with Atlanta. Mush rush I think it was called.

Thank you. I always wondered.

So it was a blog + discussion and now it's just an ongoing general discussion.

There was a thread in WU once called TCB (The Corner Bar). Someone earlier described this topic like going to a bar to chat and anything can come up. Something like that would make more sense ha ha.

I don't get all the hate about the comment. He's right, historically when Hurts has to throw 25+ times he doesn't do well. Teams have a much better chance of winning if they make him throw more.

Go back the last few years and almost every loss has him throwing 25 or more passes
