Maybe it's because I'm more defensive-minded and think that side of the ball has been neutered over the years with the rule changes, but I didn't have a problem with the shot Hurts took last night. Bang/bang play, with his toe barely out of bounds and the defender leveled him. That was a pretty clean hit. Have to do a better job sacrificing a few yards for the sake of your own safety and that disaster with Dalton not happening.

The one Dante Moore took on Saturday for Oregon was more graphic since he got KO'd, but I thought he waited too long to slide and gave the defender an opportunity to wallop him. It's not the defender's job to protect you, it is yours.

Looks like both were out of bounds when the impact happened

Mahomes was the king of taking advantage of this while tap-dancing on the sidelines and I'm glad to see defenses are standing up for themselves and saying "Yeah, you wanna do that we're just going to pepper you and be fine with the flag".

It's hard to explain but I agree with your stance. The hit was clean and into his shoulder, not head. It was a tad late as Hurts was going out of bounds but if he didn't close in, Hurts could have easily gotten the first down without the threat coming in. In today's NFL, I understand why it was called and why some might think it was cheap, I just hate how they got to this place in today's game.

I think the problem to defense is multifaceted. Campbell looks like he’s either not ready or he’s not gonna be the player they thought. He’s not good on run defense and if he’s not gonna be good on run defense, he has to be good in coverage. He hasn’t been good there either. Their safety position is a mess. I don’t think they have a starter on this team. Mukuba missed a ton of time last year and never really proved he could be a consistent starter. Epps and Carter are backups at this point in their careers.

I do believe the pass rush will get better. which will help but I’m not as optimistic about safety getting better. LB could if Campbell has a light bulb moment like Dean did or they try trotter and he hits

Looks like Fangio is ready to put Carter in FT for Epps. He wasn't great, but noticed him getting his nose dirty and not avoiding contact. Next move is to put Cooper at safety. Desperate times... Then Moore goes to the slot. Highest IQ trio and major upgrade to tackling and not looking lost out there. All vets who should figure it out in due time. Think they can get to a place of being average. This is horrendous currently from all angles.

Imo issue is you aren’t investing the type of money into the defense (future contracts with dejean, mitchell and what we are paying baun, carter, davis, greenard) for it to be simply above average. Frankly I could argue it’s a poor use of cap resources to pay guys big money on defensive which lessens what you can on offense for just above avg.

Let's play a game:

Guess the outcome of this play

Agreed. These are drastic measures for the short term to stabilize the back end. It's a mess. None of that is worrying about next year necessarily. They need answers today! At this point, finding help externally is unrealistic and may be a little too late if you wait for the trade deadline.

Campbell has to play. He's an elite athlete and he needs to learn the position. He won't learn on the bench. Jurgens played better yesterday(but still the weak link) and if a safety gets benched, then Carter will be first man up, not Moore.

Fans don’t want to hear this but part of the reason why the chiefs are very selective with whom they extend in defense. They dealt away mcduffie who’s a very good corner cause didn’t want to pay him. Got picks back and reallocated the money. Can argue the merits of how smart or not smart it is and they have mahomes/reid but it’s a strategy they employ

Of course, Jurgens is statistically one of the worst guards in the league. Why wouldn't you try it? If the guy is washed he's washed. It's his 2nd full year now like this. Has been bad since the 2024 playoffs. I think what you see is what you get. Backs are tough to fully recover from. Time to move on...and try anything else.

Actually, I think you are perceived as negative because 95% or more of all your posts have a very negative tone. It’s just my two cents, but if you mixed in a little balance, you probably would not be perceived that way.

It’s no different than somebody posting on the other end of that spectrum… Only posting positive things. Neither sound very realistic.

The truth is usually in the middle, so when a poster does not appear to be anywhere near the middle, most won’t feel comfortable considering that source as truth

The board and blog ARE the other end of that spectrum. Except on game days and after losses. Then when they realize the Eagles aren't a flawless SB bound team they flip more negative than I am.

I still think this team is winning the division and going to the playoffs. I just take the counterpoint on all the positive hyperbole and baseless hope.

Where Trott may actually be good at the position and about to walk out the door. Again, I'll risk it. Lucky for you they are on your side with Campbell and will let the season go down.

On offense, I think they are going to stick with Jurgens at LG, but I'd be open to making the switch to Lampkin. What's odd is it felt like Jurgens run blocking, especially in the 1st half, was good last night. But he's lost in pass blocking and blitz pickup, which isn't overly surprising given his limited snaps at LG. It's why moving him and putting Kendall at C baffled me - yes, Kendall has looked good, but Kendall took snaps at LG. I'm not sure how much Lampkin has repped at LG, which is the key on deciding to make the switch.

On defense, Epps needs to find the bench and play Carter. Carter is no all pro, but he's serviceable. I think they stick with Mukuba for now. As for Campbell...it's such a hard call as he seems completely lost out there, but if you bench him, are you basically throwing away a 1st round pick? Dean took 2 red shirt years to figure it out, and Campbell only played ILB for one year in college. I'd maybe give Trott some snaps here and there but keep Campbell the starter for now.

I think it should have been a penalty by rule, but I didn't have a problem with the hit and didn't think it was a cheap shot. If quarterbacks want to take off and run like a running back, you're going to get treated like one.

If it reaches the point that Trot Jr. needs to take over for Campbell (and I am not saying we are there yet...we aren't)....then I'd move Campbell into the edge rotation.

They already aren't getting much out of Smith/Hunt/Greenard and they don't even have a 4th viable edge in the rotation. Do I think Campbell is going to be a special edge? No, we've already had that debate.

But if it reaches the point that he's getting benched for the second time in 2 years as an off-ball LB and is such an elite athlete, then make him edge #4 in the rotation and pray he can be more useful there.

You pinched your weiner really hard with tears in your eyes?

Or did you mean the outcome on the field?

So the next four games...I see PHI winning all three home games, losing only to the Jags on the road, and being 5-2 moving into Nov with at least a two game lead in the division. DAL just isn't ready to walk into the Linc and win this year, it will likely be a competitive game through two and a half or three quarters but PHI will pull away. Then again I could see DAL get dominated on the road, in the division, just like they did in the opener against the NYG.

DAL has improved...very little. They have a second year HC and a first year DC. Those two guys are still making their own mistakes, as much as I like Schotty the guy is still learning how to manage a game. Parker, well, there just isn't enough yet to really make any long term indictments against him. I do like that he will call himself out and own his mistakes, his guys respect him and will play hard for him. The execution and growth will be slow, but I am encouraged by the way Downs, Barham, and Lawrence are progressing early but it's gonna take a while to realize significant gains with the personnel in this defense.

PHI @ DAL in week 12 is another story, that game will come down to whether or not PHI has resolved the things you guys are discussing right now. Dak currently has a 20 game win streak against the division @ home, if PHI hasn't gotten better at the safety position that streak will likely continue. There is also the Dak even year injury concern, I have predicted a Dak injury sometime this season that would have him miss at least four games, that should derail the season if/when it happens.

Look man, we're not in the mood for your obvious reverse jinx attempt here.

This Rams game is a huge early season game. I'd almost treat it like a playoff game and put all your chips on the table for this game. You have a chance to put Rams at 1-3 and have a 2 game lead on a chief rival and a head to head advantage. Waiting around for adjustments to see what happens (with really obvious issues on both sides of the ball) is not how I would play it. A lot of these issues have been seen before this year even started. Not like you don't have enough evidence of the issues. Sense of urgency needed here.

If he had ability at edge they would have him there. Especially, with Dean being on the team last year. They have a guy who can play the position sitting on the bench. I get why they won't play Trott, but they can't have 3 out of 11 guys being lost out there. Plug a hole unless you make a trade for a safety. Then you can afford to let Campbell learn on the job.
