EMB Blog: 2026 Regular Season (Part 1)

Featured Replies

Phillies gave us a glimmer yesterday. But their pulse ultimately faded after a very volatile regular season. This team's core should be blown up. Everyone is for sale, except for Painter, Sanchez and Luzardo. Maybe Durant. Doubt they do enough for any real change. Without an overhauling, can see total apathy ensuing from the Phillies fanbase. Need new blood. Team is getting old and window is now officially closed. At least with this group....

For those of you who refuse to acknowledge that the Eagles have a talent problem…and to distill the 2026 problems into one overarching issue:

Notable players that have left the Eagles since 2024:

CJGJ

Milton Williams

AJ Brown

Josh Sweat

Mekhi Becton

2024 Landon Dickerson (pro-bowl)

2024 Cam Jurgens (pro-bowl)

Darius Slay

Reed Blankenship

Nakobe Dean

Notable players that have joined the Eagles since 2024 (and still here):

Jonathan Greenard

Dontayvion Wicks

Marcus Epps

Andrew Mukuba

Jihaad Campbell

Drew Kendall

2026 LG Cam Jurgens

Riq Woolen

These lists are not the same. And that’s why the Eagles aren’t the same either.

Still have more talent than most teams but what they lack is an offensive coaching staff that gives them a major scheme edge every week.

I think this week is the key to our season. Either we come back in big way, show some heart and get a W or we just roll over and get embarrassed again. If that happens we could spiral.

Need to get Barkley going and get some pressure on Stafford. If we can’t do that, it’s going to be a long day.

Hate to do this. And never have done this for a prediction. Usually just withhold the pick. But, Eagles lose this game because of the defense, not the offense. Got too many leaks to fix with Baun out and a disorganized back 7. Eagles show some fight and come up short on a last second Jake Elliott missed 44 yarder as time expires. There's always drama in these Rams games. This one is a punch to the gut.

It felt like this team died when Alek Thomas hit the HR off of Kimbrel in 2023 in the Arizona NLCS. That was really the end.

True. Lots of bullpen fiascos in our history. Then you have Alvarado to Alvarez in 2022. And let's not forget Orion Kerkering's beauty last season. It' s been a gradual but steady deterioration for years now. And this now has reached the culmination of playoff futility, where wholesale changes are needed. But we will see if we even have baseball next year.

Really didn’t lose much if you really think about it

The Turner contract is an absolute abomination. 7 years remaining, no trade clause, total calamity.

They’re not built for the postseason, but Mattingly needs to be fired before sunrise tomorrow.

Their only chance was Wheeler, Sanchez and Luzardo giving them 7 innings — 6 minimum. Their bullpen sucks so they needed to get to Duran in as few moves as possible. Pulling the starter after 5 and bringing the closer in for the 7th was a losing proposition in Game 1, and you either start Wheeler in Game 3 or you don’t pitch him at all. Either he can start on three days rest (he can), or you save him to set your rotation properly for the next series …. in the unlikely event you get there.

Nola being Nola was not unexpected. Whoever decided Wheeler should pitch long relief needs to be fired. A closer isn’t going to succeed when you bring him in to pitch the 7th inning, and your ace starter isn’t going to succeed when you decide his best role is to start the 3rd inning for you — after the winning runs have already crossed the plate for the opposing team.

Blow it up. But, they will run it back ….. again.

Multiple years for too many guys who are past their prime. I'm afraid to look at the terms left for each of them. Funny thing is that Bohm finally looked good by the end of the year, but he needs to go, as can't give him a long term contract with what's already in the books.

Just a reminder in 2024 it took until week 7 for the offense to look good vs the Giants under KM who was an experienced OC.

We are on week 3 of a new offense with a new OC calling plays for the first time.

People were calling for Nick to be fired after week 4 vs the Bucs things were so bad. We are going into week 4.

We don't have a clue about this team and won't for a few more.

I don’t know if it would have made a difference the way the bats no-showed tonight (shocker), but just based off of principle I will never understand why they just didn’t start Wheeler. You knew he was ready enough to come in for relief, just start him and see how far he could have gone. I get Don’s deal was he didn’t want Nola coming out of the bullpen but who cares. That game was lost in the first inning after the Harris HR and I would guess Wheeler would have gotten them off to a better start which could have changed the flow.

Series was lost game 1

Jurgens looked good in the run department this last game at least in the first half and, dare I say, athletic. He still is horrible in pass protection.

I don't know the answer to this but posing as a question: (A) do you think he is just learning the position and unsure of his assignments or (B) is his lateral mobility so bad that he can't physically make the blocks?

Obviously, A is corectable with more reps and time at the position. B is not correctable and they need to do something about it.

In pass pro, I saw alot of bad technique like lunging at the defender with head down and then getting blown by. Is this a technique thing? A being a second late thing? Or he just cannot move his feet laterally?

Smitty out for Sunday?

I'm going on Sunday to the game....got to say, this is about the least excited I've been in a long time to be going.........

You really believe they will score thier most points so far this year vs the best defense they have seen so far?

This has been a disappointing week. Not one of Eagles/Phillies/Flyers looked prepared for their games, weren't coached well, and worst of all, don't appear to have the talent to flip the switch. Phillies, we know their lineup is paper tigers, Flyers were abused in both games and with Tocchet players get worse not better, Eagles coaches got curb stomped by the Bears coaches. Brutal. Go Sixers?!

I saw that this morning. It's gonna suck on Sunday.

Will be a perfect week though. Crap on Monday night... crap all week from the Phillies and the topper will be a whooping by the Rams.
