At his worst, he skirts accountability for a spot-on question as to why he chose not to contribute to the offense without its top 3 RBs when his passing clearly wasn't getting the job done against JAX in the second half -- yet again.Like I said, there is absolutely nothing he could say that would make you happy. He knows that, unlike so many athletes before him, so he gives you nothing. What do I base it on? Well, he was benched in the national championship game and went on to become an NFL SB MVP. That's one strong indicator of his belief in putting the team-first.Go listen to what Nick Saban, the great West Virginian, says about him. Do you think Saban is lying or wrong or what?

Hurts is the only reason we're 2-3.I’d argue we are 2-3 because we barely beat a titans team that may win 0-2 games this year and a horribly coached commanders team. Offensive line woes are an issue. I’d add, head coach, OC, OL coach, pass game coordinator and QB have also played a role in this. Putting it entirely on just the oline is disingenuous cause been multiple factors.

Or is that ignored because of that last drive? There have been times after they break from the huddle that Hurts lets the clock just drain to read the defense. That's not a problemSince you guys want to keep bringing up Allen... if he was here he would have ran it more than Hurts. That's just the truthMaybe. Do you know from watching the 22 that there were always lanes to run? Saying the QB has to run because they don't have a run game and the OL has trouble blocking in passing situations maybe be true, but that's a limited solution. I'm not sure what you are asking in your first two questions. They were able to move the ball in the first half and then he just forgot to play QB in the 2nd or did the Jags adjust to zero and it all fell apart because there weren't adjustments. We agree it's not a problem if he was at the line and drained it but just skimming the highlights in the car yesterday you could see how often they got to the line late. Why are the calls coming in so late? If people want to say he needs to change the play then the calls need to get in faster so he can. They have no run game, no screen game, the OL is struggling to run block, RB4 missed some open holes when they made them, among the worst in the league for pass blocking, one TE worth a crap and he struggles to stay on the field. I still don't know why he vanished in Q3, but that's another issue. Hurts isn't blameless but how often have we heard excuses for the "top QBs" because they had a bad OL? Throw in the rest and there are much bigger issues that need to be fixed before blaming Hurts....and this is coming from a guy who isn't on team Hurts.

Wednesday at 04:35 PM3 days 4 minutes ago, Diehardfan said:I think the main excuse why Hurts is losing is his coach blew the last two. Putting them in a spot to win with 8 seconds was his job and he did it. You can't put that on Hurts. He blew two gamesIf you want to blame the hybrid/dysfunctional system on Hurts we can skip this but they don't even have the TEs to run it, the plays seem to be coming in late again so there isn't much time on the clock when they get to the line. Is SM indecisive or is Nick getting involved and delaying that again like last year? Realistically this is #2 ahead of Hurts and not something he can control. People have said he needs to change the play at the line, well he can't do that if there isn't time. There is no run game. 6 yards from RB in a 2nd half isn't going to win you a game and wear out the defense. That's not on Hurts. Saying he should run more is a separate issue but not one a QB should have to do because the run game nets you a total of 6 yards in a half and 14 in the first from RBs. I don't care who is QB that is a larger issue than missing open targets.Injuries are a valid excuse when it gets past one or two guys. DG has been out/vanished for a quarter on Sunday, they have crap behind him at TE, WR1 is out so safeties are freed up, 3/5 new OL starters since game 1 and it got as bad as 4/5 on Sunday giving up 48%+ pressure rate which is near the bottom of the league. They can't run block and he's one of the highest pressure rates in the league. Not many QBs are going to do well. And they are down to RB4.Is Hurts. He is missing people who are open at times. Just like Josh Allen on that "arm punt" when a guy was wide open at the sticks and he threw a pick. If he is the benchmark of what people here want in a QB and he misses people then stop expecting Hurts to be perfect even if it pisses us off when he does it. He needs to run more. Is it his leg, is it his coach, or is it him? No idea but when they are getting 20 yards from RBs because the 4th string guy is playing we can worry about that. He is doing that run outside BS he does when he gets pressure. I hate it but that's what he does.Bottom line is if Allen was starting here people would be complaining about the first 3 or 4 issues before blaming him but we are complaining about Hurts who we already know is a limited QB but one who can win.The run game is probably the biggest issue. There seems to be some fundamental inability for the coaching staff to design effective running plays. I don't know what changes need to be made but Mehaffey has to be removed from that role. Hurts' strength as a runner has been underutilized. I don't know if that is because of Hurts or the coaching staff. I do know that's another problem. Howie should be calling Stoutland to get him to look at the issue and suggest fixes. The biggest in season move the Eagles could make, in my view, would be to bring Stoutland back in that role. The second biggest issue is the inability to adjust to defenses. They had no answers to the blitz against the Rams and were poor against the blitz vs. Jags. This may be a protection issue and O-line performance issue but if the coaching staff knows the O-line is sucking balls, you need to adjust your game plan and have easy answers. Maybe that's on Hurts not recognizing the blitz but I don't think that's the case entirely. This is a play design and planning problem. They cannot execute play action roll outs and barely can execute play action passes. I don't think the talent deficit is as big of an issue except that Hurts needs to be more trusting of down the roster WRs. The TE position is a mess after Goedert.

The running into brick walls and screen pass failure is on his belief that the system is greater than the opponent. I've seen very little adjusting to the opponent. Jacksonville has the top rushing defense in the league and we were still running straight into it. Creating negative plays in early downs, getting us behind the sticks and creating predictable situations in 3rd and long. With our beat up O-Line, we should be getting the ball to players out in space. The quick passing game should be our run game. The problem is that it's not something Hurts has done in the past and I don't feel like it's one of his strengths. How many times have you heard that pass needs to come out faster or with more anticipation. Too many times, you see him wait until a receiver is out of their break and into open field before he throws the ball instead of throwing it at the top of their route before they make their break.Hurts game is more of getting the run going and drawing in the defense and then beating them over the top. That's where he excels but you need good pass blocking to allow longer routes to develop and it's hindered when you have no run game.I'll never doubt that Hurts can become better at something. If you went back to when he was drafted and looked at a list of all his flaws. About 80% of them have been fixed. AND I mean they were major deal breaker type issues. His accuracy out of college, horrendous. His ball control, horrendous. His ability to get past the first read, horrendous. So learning to throw the quick pass or hot route and throwing with more anticipation are all natural progressions in the learning path. He has not been asked to do before because he wasn't ready for that step. Now he is and he'll take that step but he's going to need time. This is what gets me about people wanting a different QB. Most QB's will never fix half the stuff he has fixed. I wouldn't put a ceiling on his capability. Any QB you get out of college is going to be a third of his capability and a ceiling much less than his current capabilities. They may do the one or two things better but their going to come with all those flaws he's already fixed.

Wednesday at 04:57 PM3 days This team has a bunch of issues. And Howie is not going to solve all of them this season. Having a running game solves so many issues. It can mask many of your other flaws the best. Fixing guard with a stud who brings leadership and experience to a young group will go a long way. That move gives you the most bang for your buck. If we do nothing else, we get a guard. Defense will figure things out with Fangio and better health and should be fine. We need to be able to rest them with a running game. 70 snaps a game is not sustainable. I'd pick up another safety like Reid as my 2nd move. Bringing championship experience back there will be helpful. This team needs leadership and experience. We have enough young guys. They make a lot of mistakes. Need guys to keep them in line. Again I am going with the attitude that we should not be conceding this year or next year. If you're the dynamic GM that everyone claims you to be then fix it. You inherited a 2024 Superbowl roster on the upswing and now here we are treading water.

That brings up another issue....so many times on Sunday they ran on first and got nothing or lost yards. He ran on 2nd and short early in the game. It's a lot easier to run when you aren't in 2nd/3rd and long. So much more is going into this than simply saying he needs to run more.
