Herbig was fine as a pass blocker, needs to work on his explosion as a run blocker, and is limited to RG. Pryor regressed last year, we'll find out if Stoutland thinks that's fixable if he makes it out of camp. The real problems came when we were playing Brown at G, Toth at T, and Pryor at either spot. The falloff from Driscoll at RT was substantial.

Just a note on the Cowboys...

Yes, they have been more disciplined in the draft lately and have accumulated a significant amount of playmakers.

But don't discount the fact that their success over the past fifteen years has been a product of finding probowl QBs from unlikely sources (Romo - UDFA, Prescott - 4th round).

I am not afraid of Jerrah as a sustainable team builder.

Jerry is terrific at drafting. His issue is that he is awful at hiring head coaches. He has only ever made two good hires, Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells.  That is what has been holding them back.

Barmore is the best DL prospect in this draft -- and it's not even particularly close.  Still, he's a good value only in the 20-25 range.

No other DL player in this class would be drafted in the first round of most drafts.

Howie is back to trying  to build this team like he did in 2017 - 1 Year free agent deals with players who have age and injury question marks. Joe Flacco, Jordan Howard. And he is just getting started. And before anyone says anything about the cap issue, that is also Howies fault. 

This is going to be a long couple of seasons till Howie is once again removed from his job, we will be perennial cellar dwellers. SMH

Interestingly, at the end of the season, the Eagles had Juriga playing 6 OL.  Put on some of his college games last year and saw him getting second level blocks.  (Now, he was an UDFA for a reason). Don’t see that movement with Humphrey watching OU games but you don’t see a lot of pulling there either.  People get caught up in the RAS scores and other scores that don’t mean a lot for an IOL. I want to see good footwork and anchor.  I want to see hand placement. That is so important with moving to DTs.  Great snapping isn’t just delivering the ball well every time it is getting the ball of and into stance.  I like Humphrey but there are other Cs that I like in this draft. Overall a good C draft. Good G draft too.  I am hopeful the Eagles draft an IOL and C this year.  No more Pryor.

I think Howie is a joke, but I don't agree with this take.

Nearly 150 NFL Draft prospects are currently in Indy for in-person medical exams and physicals for what is usually Combine re-checks. Half the group has scans today, full exams tomorrow. The other half has scans tomorrow, exams Saturday. Mostly top 3 rounds, plus medical risks

Give him a full offseason with Stoutland and we’ll see. I think you have to wipe the slate clean with him for 2021 and let him sink or swim. Open competition between him and Mailata. If he can’t take the job from a 7th round draft pick, we’ll then I think we can conclude the Dillard experiment is likely over.

I thought he looked so much better last year than the year before but still a phone booth guy. Better feet than one would expect for a guy that reminds you of a slug in movement.  But if he peaked in improvement or can only move up incrementally, he needs replacing.  I think Opeta is done and Pryor should be done.  That makes Herbig the only G backup.  He may survive another season but really walking out of this draft without an IOL is a firing offense for Howie.  Draft to the strength of the draft not the depth.

One year hole fillers. The secret is not giving contracts for more next year.

yup second round feel like a sweet spot for an iOL.

The scouting report on Dillard coming out was he would need a year to learn and develop; that’s basically what he got in 2019 behind and spelling off Peters.  No one can make any conclusions about 2020 because he lost the season due to injury.

I agree but that’s why you don’t rely on UDFA’s like Herbig or Opeta as your top IOL depth, or a bad 6th round pick like Pryor whose established he’s just not good. You can get quality reserves in the middle of the draft like they did with Seumalo and Vatai.

Oh I agree. The Howard of the first 3 years in the league and then even during 2019 in Philly would be a pretty good #2. But like you I don't see that happening.

A guy like Josh Myers from OSU could be available at pick #84, possibly even 4th round.  6’5 and 312, 2-year starter at C but was an OG prior to that.  Somewhat versatile skills that Stoutland could work with.

He had a full offseason last year and the reports out of training camp weren't glowing. He was still getting tossed around by power rushes.  Then he tore his bicep which isn't helijg matters. Mailata was a 7th round lick because he never played the game before but he is a far more physically gifted and powerful player who now has expierence and has shown he can play.  Putting Dillard over him would be a mistake just for the purpose of trying to make a failed 1st round pick work. 

 

Mailata completely dwarfs him in size, strength and athleticism.

I'm just going off on the reports on him over the years how those within the organization wonder if he has the mentality to play at this level. He had a meltdown at training camp a couple years ago and then also basically quit to the media prior to his game starting at RT. 

Howie couldn’t possibly repeat the folly of the Pumphrey pick by drafting 155-lb Tutu Atwell ...... could he?
