In the last 3 years, we have invested 1st, 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th round picks in WRs via the draft, traded draft picks as high as 3rd rounders for 3 different WRs, and gave pretty big contracts to 2 different veteran WRs.  That does not even include using their top 2018 pick in a pass catcher (TE) in Goedert and now investing primarily in 2 RBs who are regarded as pass catchers.

You don't invest that kind of capital in pass catchers to have a running QB who throws for 3,100 yards while rushing for 600 in a Lamar Jackson-lite offense.

I hope...and think...that either Hurts completely reinvents himself and plays with a style and effectiveness as a pro that he never even demonstrated in college...or he's out after 1 year.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Based solely on this, I’m glad we didn’t get Wilson

Time will tell, but my concern with Wilson through the process Is that he would likely become more Jay Cutler than Josh Allen.  Awesome throwing arm, but bad footwork and a bit of a slight build for a franchise QB.

Lawrence and Lance were the only QBs in this class I’d have been happy with as Eagles.

Just got back from Mexico. Loved it.

Skimmed the draft comments. Some of you folks are crazy. Considering that Howie was loading up for 2022, this was a great draft. All the whining about not drafting mediocre cornerbacks over BPA made me ill. We may well suck this season, making our picks all the better in 2022. Perspective, people. Kudos to HE for some really perceptive remarks about it.

And razzies to the posters who didn’t like picks because they didn’t know who they were. This is the partner to the free agent comment we see time and again: "Ooo, I heard of him, let’s get him.”

If if if Dickerson is healthy at some point in 2021 or all of 2022 and thereafter, he’s an incredible bargain. He’s almost Shawn Andrews level who, we may recall missed all of his first season excepting the first quarter against the Giants.

Big if for certain. If if.

I think I was pretty clear that I didn’t like Creed much if at all. Played A gap to A gap. In a limited area like that Dickerson is way more powerful. If healthy, he’s more mobile too, which is hard to believe in a guy that big. I could care less that he’s as tall as he is. Nobody is going to bulldoze him. Quite the contrary. He’s got a punch like Shawn and Peters. I don’t know what he benched but he might still be going.

I thought it was a great draft, much better and more disciplined than I expected.

And yes, Afan was right about the trade of two bottom of the barrel picks for a fifth in 2022 as being highway robbery. Normally a fifth this year is worth a fourth next year. This year, given the pool,  a fifth this year year is as good as a fourth+ Next year., if not more. And we gave up a mid 7th round value for that.

The talent base was better when Doug took over. Howie has spent years making it deteriorate.  We hope we are on the other side of that but it's still not 100% certain as you bring up

The talent base on offense when Doug took over was absolutely horrible. Putrid.

The defense has better talent and talent that was largely entering their primes or in them.  Yeah Doug got that for sure.

But both were offensive HCs and Sirianni without question enters his first year with better talent on offense.

I like the draft and what they did, but I just feel compelled to argue against this anyway.

PG Jay Cutler

Well, of course you do. Understood.

In my opinion, JJAW always fit in best here as a big slot. Now, with the Ausbon UDFA signing, I see him as a carbon copy of JJAW (college version).

Hes not that athletic. He doesnt create separation. He knows how to use his body, and hands to make a contested catch.

I would love if our WR competitions broke down like this:

Slot- Ward, JJAW, Ausbon

X- Smith, Fulgham, Grimes

Z- Reagor, Quez, Hightower

With that type if alignment, I think Ausbon has a clear shot at the roster as a backup slot, who can maybe play X in emergency scenario. I think he and Ward could conceivably knock JJAW out.

It makes Grimes and Hightower the 2 remaining long shots to make the roster. Grimes might win that considering his speed, and ability to actually catch the ball.

Crossed out the names of the cuts to show my predicted final depth chart. If 7 WRs sounds like maybe too much, consider that Quez could become the KR.

Great intangibles and leadership, too.  Don’t be surprised 5 years from now if we’re talking about Dickerson as one of the leaders in the locker room.

I think Smith, Reagor, and Watkins are the 3 most talented WRs on the team with the most potential.  I’d like to see a future with those 3 on the field together.

I agree. Ive been penciling in Quez as a slot for a while now just to get him on the field.

In the scenario where we have a big slot eventually knock Ward out of the spot, Quez would likely still get plenty of time as a 4th WR, or in different packages.  I think he is going to be good. Especially in this offense where he should be able to run the types of routes he ran in college. He has 4.3 speed and he wasnt a big deep route runner, he was more on crossers and using his speed after the catch.

This offense will be perfect for the trio you named to really shine.

I don't even know what a franchise QB is. Stafford and Rivers have long been considered franchise QBs but haven't won a damn thing. Don't care about stats at that position at all. Who would you rather start in the Super Bowl, Phil Rivers or Flacco in his prime?

If he stays healthy that’s exactly what I would expect.

If if if.

Excellent question. No reply.

(Flacco)

Franchise QB is a colloquialism that means something different to everyone.

IMO, the most basic, common denominator, universally applicable definition would be a QB that is good enough for what you want, so that you are no longer searching for a replacement or competition.  Then they are your franchise QB.

The "what you want" is what varies person to person, team to team.

Nothing against the guy, but we can and should do better than Ward.

Yeah I was a fan of Watkins before the last draft. I think people overly judging last year's rookies are being premature. They were all a bit raw and the entire offense stunk

I’m sure this has been discussed but is there a chance we switch to a 3-4? We drafted several DE tweeners that would be better suited as 3-4 LB. Also moved Avery to LB.

If anything might run a sort of hybrid defense that switches between the two depending on the package of players on the field.

Geez, you guys are already pencilling Grimes in for the 53 man roster? His odds of winning the Nasty Nate just keep going up.

We don't really know and maybe the scheme has some variability to it.  For instance a 4-3 under, where we could have one of these tweeners play the Leo or Sam, have one DT play 2-gap, yet still let Cox play a 3 technique.

Supposedly it's basis is Zimmer's system but I guess we'll see.

There's not much competition.

Offensive line has too many injuries.
